Well my furthest distance in a day and the highest I've ever tramped! It doesn't get much better than that! Hope you guys enjoy this one. I'd love to hear what you think. Cheers
I'm watching this series as I hiked Te Araroa in 2017/18 season and it was an amazing hike. I have always thought of hiking it again even whilst I was on trail as they were still piecing it together with landowners etc so there would be changes. The best thing I loved was the wonder of locals as they seen hikers passing through more regular, I got invited into homes, fed, bed and watered, quizzed on the trail and on one occasion when I left the Tararuah Ranges a Moari gave me the food he had whilst he was out baiting eels because he was so happy I had travelled here to see his country. This particular video you have uploaded is why I am commenting as it is good to see a different take on those sections but also because it where I hiked my two biggest days on trail, not through want but necessity as a big storm was closing in and I needed to make Top Timaru hut (end of the biggest day) before heading out leaving the rest of the hut holding back, probably wisely as it took me all day to get to Stodys Hut because the river kept rising and the ground between crossing was slippery. I woke up the next day not the frost but to over a foot of snow and the knowledge that a mouse made it into my noodles..! The whole trail was amazing but that section along with just a few others stick out the most in my memory.
Hi Mike. That's bloody awesome man, I'm glad you had a great time doing Te Araroa. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience of this section. Cheers!
I watch you grow up on TH-cam, I was one of your first Subscribers, you put out AWESOME content, your Country is amazing and your doing a great job representing it. Thanks for sharing the beauty of NZ.
excellent video, a lot of continuous work touring new places full of incredible views, I hope everything continues to go well for you. greetings from Tijuana Mexico!
Walking rough terrain and river crossings with beat up feet and blisters - what a legend! Your joy at the top of that highest point was infectious - I was smiling along with you. Another wonderful part of this great adventure - thanks for your video.
Thanks heaps Ally! Yeah I don't think the feet particularly enjoyed that section but it was still an awesome time. It was pretty cool reaching 2000m and the views and weather just added to it. Thanks heaps for watching and commenting 🙂
The summit views were well worth the trouble! Great post BK! BTW, have you heard of moleskin? Saved many of my hikes. The moment you feel an itchy spot on your foot, stop, let you foot dry off then cut and apply moleskin to any developing blister area. Anyway, looking forward to next post. Cheers.
Hey Rick. Thanks alot man, it was an epic section for sure. I have heard of moleskin and was using something similar but I was a bit negligent when it came to stopping and sorting out hotspots haha. My fault for not stopping at the time lol. Cheers
You sure are a great advocate for NZ and what it has to offer Z. Your photography could grace any screen for the Tourism Assocn. Have you tnought of trying Condys Crystals on your feet it has proven really helpful for many I know also use pure wool socks is my go to. Thanks for the hike mate ... pleasure following you. Bushyboy Oz.
Thank you for the compliment Ewen! I've never heard of condys crystals but I'll check them out. Yeah my socks were wool and I was using injinji liner socks which are fantastic but I got heaps of fine grit in my shoes and socks from river crossings and after long days it just messed up my feet. Thanks for watching. Cheers mate
Sorry for my slow pace in watching mate, we are getting nearer autumn and darker days, that's when i do my best watching. I'm actually really looking forward to the Stewart Island videos. lot's happening in this video but that was some kick ass distance you did. Also the mountains that you walked up are bigger than the highest mountains here. But there they're just mountains, here it's a big thing to walk up 900 meters or more! Holy Heck..you've watched too much batman😁😁.
No need to apologize mate, I need to catch up on yours aswell! Stewart island is an amazing place, I hope you enjoy the videos. Ain't nothing wrong with 900m, plenty of mountains that size here aswell. Cheers mate!
@@BackcountryKiwiCool Zeb, i'm logging out for a week or so just to take a break but I'll be back soon, as I said before no need to watch mine mate, I find my own videos bloody boring, Stewart Island was the last stronghold of the Kakapo, so I've always wanted to see a bit of it, so as I say looking forward to it. Cheers Zeb, Chris
Again, really enjoyed the scenery and music. You did well to keep going with your feet like that😕Did yourself and Jesse have a plan on how you would go about the hike in regards to sticking together or ‘hiking your own hike’? I heard that phrase just recently and I guess there would be many variables for everyone. What are you listening to sometimes?
Thanks TJ! Nah me and Jesse agreed to start together and then whatever happened happened. It worked out that we ended up doing it together except for a few odd days where we did our own thing. Was very cool getting to finish with him. Mostly listening to punk and rock and the occasional podcast.
Awesome trek through our beautiful country Zeb... any chance you can find out how those peaks and huts get their names? I know we could google but be nice dialogue to add to your vids maybe at the end of each trek do a camp fire reminisce about your day and what you're eating day and night!! Lol otherwise beautiful and thanks again for taking us with you... hope your feet are healed for the next mammoth adventure!! Cheers
Thanks heaps Lisa. Yeah the names of huts and peaks would definitely be interesting, I'll give it some thought. Feet are algood now thanks! I appreciate it! Cheers

It was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend even just doing a few sections. Thanks for watching mate, really appreciate the support. Cheers
