My 4yr old loves watching your videos, when we were setting up his TV that we got him for Christmas he pointed to the ethernet port "That's where the ethernet cable goes, it gives you a better connection than wifi. It's also called a LAN cable. And that's an HDMI port, that's where consoles plug in." My husband was stunned that he knew all that, and it's all thanks to your channel!
Hi Vince, next time a voltage regulator / buck converter fails remove it from the board and look up on the data sheet the output voltage . Work out where the 3.3v or whatever is generated and inject with your power supply that voltage but current limited. That way you will see if the device has just failed or the load is excessive .It will also mean you don’t have to buy the device to prove the fault .
Could even then flying wire some other regulator to supply the 3V to replace the 'proper' one. I shouldn't think these things have to provide a lot of power.

iFixit has a tear down of this particular camera from what I can see. They've had one published since 2019 called the 'ring Stick Up Cam with Quick Release Battery' teardown.
I'm fairly certain he damaged the second voltage regulator simply because he didn't identify the faulty component that killed the original voltage regulator. This component worked from factory, but something slowly degraded to cause that voltage reg to short to ground. Usually it's a capacitor out of spec. These voltage converters are programmable, meaning they use a series of resistors and capacitors to set the output rail. If there happens to be a faulty capacitor partially shorting to ground, it won't show up afterwards because the capacitor high side is floating. When he made the swap, the functional chip eventually failed as well because it was overdrawing current through that capacitor. They can only handle so much overdraw before they internally fail...which is what happened here.

should get a thermal imaging camera , will get a better result, in its a ir sensor
A few faulty dead (un)expensive Asus routers on ebay atm, that maybe of interest for a fix vid.
Very nice one vince
When will next video of Rolls Royce come out
Very early January, I have about 3 days of footage so editing will take a while. It's on the front brake pads, brake hoses and cylinder seals, then bleeding 👍👍👍

Oh cool
Maybe invest in some Hot Tweezers, you can see NorthridgeFix use them in his fix video "Another Asus ROG Laptop Repair. What is the Best laptop to buy?" @ 09.40 and PS5 Turns on then off after 1 second. Is it Fixable? @ 05:20
It's far easier to use a pair of fine tipped soldering irons than those huge hot tweezers when working on such small components.
Whats the downside to fixing things? well nothing really except when you shock yourself and fuse your bollox together! 😂😂👍👍
Shocking yourself is the exciting part, like on a Ryobi charger with 2 330v caps
Was just checking for the part at Mouser and Digikey, both have it in stock or will have it "soon-ish" depending on the version of the part.
But shipping costs are... rough.
I know some retro-computer TH-camrs get supported by PCB manufacturers.
Why not try to get in touch with Mouser (or Digikey) and try to get sponsored by them?
They cost under $3 for 10 on Aliexpress from China, where the thing is made anyway.
Who cares if it takes a couple weeks on shipping for low cost parts like those.
@@biohaz360 because you never know if broker parts are old, were properly stored, are rebranded or something like that. It is just anoter potential fault you are buying. If no other options are available you can go that round but at mouser you van get them for a dollar plus 20 fpr shipping. and you will receive fresh genuine parts from an authorized seller.
@@biohaz360 aliexpress is like buying a dvd in a dark alley from some guys trenchcoat. sure it can be good quality, but you never know until you tried what you bought.
@@crowbarviking3890 I agree for certain parts, like mosfets or low esr capacitors, but Digikey here in the States charges $7 minimum for shipping.
Ebay and Amazon also sell fake parts, hell even Walmarts app lists 1TB micro sd cards for $10, I'm sure those are real...
Ring camera.
Big Brother IS watching you!.
I wonder why there are so many buck regulators for the different components
Hi Vince. The electric tooth brush I sent you. When is the video coming out?
Mid January hopefully Toby👍👍👍
He sounds so different I haven’t been here for 5 years
USE GUITAR PICKS TO TAKE APART PLASTIC ENCLOSURE !!! They are cheap and don't grind the plastic away.
Hmm yeah it was very interesting even though a failure you proved basically what made it fail to begin with.
have you ever repaired any minidisc players before
Some items just can't be saved for an appropriate price. That's the lesson here
