We’ve enjoyed celebrating Jolabokaflod as a family for several years now-a wonderful tradition! 📚🍫 A beautiful and uplifting novel I suggest (about the power of books to connect people) is Sara Nisha Adams’ “The Reading List.” Thank you for your nice flosstubes, Jacob, about stitching and traditions!
Jacob……thank you so much for highlighting books today. There is nothing like opening a book, no matter what the content, and being immersed in it’s pages. ❤
Thank you for the lovely suggestions. I just love books!!! I've a French translation of the Islandic Sagas published in La Pleiades. It's a long time since I read it. I should get it out :) This is a lovely tradition.
A day for gifting books?!?! That sounds magical. Thank you for showing off some of your library. I'm about to start a book about John Singer Sargent and the Wertheimer family. Have a wonderful day ❄️
It's such a great tradition! I'm going to go out and get some good hot chocolate, do some stitching today and then in the evening I'll try and read a bit! ❤
I’ve been recommending Threads of Life by Clare Hunter ever since I first read it. The people whose lives are recorded are truly inspiring especially the women in the prisoner of war camp - enough said -no spoilers!
Thank you Nicole! Books are absolutely amazing. I can't believe we donated suitcases full of them a couple of years ago (before we moved to the Netherlands) and still our house is filled to the rafters with them! 😂. Which then results in a 2+ hour hunt through the house with the "I know we have this book on ... somewhere..." and coming across other awesome books on the way 😂
I will admit I am not reading much anymore. I am just trying to stitch out my days now. Did love to see your suggestions. Am loving this stitch. Two more days? Sad to see it end.
It's a pity it's nearly over! I can't believe how quick this went. I used to read so much - devoured books, but then I stopped reading. I've just started reading books again. Occasionally an audio book as well - which is nice when I stitch! :)
Vermeer has always been one of my favorite painters. One question, are the books you mentioned available in English? I will look up the two fiction books. Thank you Jacob for a beautiful Christmas design through Evertote.
Thank you! Vermeer is amazing. I was so happy to see the exhibition in Amsterdam a while ago - I think it will be the only time ever that these paintings have been together. It was moving. The fiction books are available in English - "Hannah's Daughters" by Marianne Fredriksson, and "The Birds" by Tarjei Vesaas. I can also highly recommend "The Ice Palace" by the same author, it's one of my favourite books ever (but I recommended it in last year's book recommendations I think!). A lot of the other craft titles haven't been translated, which is a pity. Luckily some of the art books are published in several languages so that's always helpful :).
Hm.. well, personally, as a Swede, I been second hand store hunting for books written by Märta Bróden. Most publiced around the 1970s and they teach various yarn crafts like macreme, nålbindning, knitting, weaving.. I find those old books are easy to understand for a beginner and I have not found all that many later publiced books who ..well.. is as down to basics. Sadly, I only found a few. I am pretty sure they were publiced by Hemslöjden as part of courses back in the late 1970s.
You are absolutely right - I was talking about this with my mum the other day! The 'old' craft books from the 60s and 70s were so well written, very detailed in photography and instruction. Very dry and boring sometimes too - but that's what you want when you have instructions. I feel that a lot of modern instruction books are padded with needless anecdotes we don't need - like recipes where you have to scroll a mile down to get to the ingredients and instructions! 😂 I'll see if I can find any Märta Bróden, it sounds very interesting. Thank you for the recommendation!
Hi Jacob All of these books sounds so good. I love reading - I love Books - I have quite the collection of Books - Children’s Books - Mysteries and so on. I am slowly Collecting all of Nancy Drew Mysteries and The BoxCar Children’s Series. I have read over 300 Library Books. Happy Reading Merry Christmas Happy New Year ❤️🤗☕️🎄🎅🏻🔰📖📚💙💚
Thank you Linda! Have you read "A Series of Unfortunate Events"? They're really good fun, and very relaxing reads (and there's a whole bunch of them!). I do love children's books - the wonder and surprise in them is just always fantastic, to feel like a child again for just a few hours :)
@ - I have the whole set of Unfortunate Events. I have not read them yet but I want to though. I love love Children’s Books - even Picture Books. ❤️🔰❤️
Echt prachtig.

That's lovely Leslie! I've noted down the Reading List, I'll look for it in our local bookshop. Thank you! :)
"Not in a begging for attention but in a shining with brilliance kind of way". What a beautiful way to put it Jacob.
:) Thank you Alison. Hammershøi's paintings really feel that way. He was a quiet genius I think! :)

I appreciate you sharing these wonderful books. As a side note, your two assistants (tall grey mouse with buddy) on your desk are delightful. 🙂
Thank you Susan! I got them from the Norwegian church Christmas Market last month! :)
Hello Jacob thank you for all your wonderful videos and happy Christmas all the best for 2025.
Thank you so much - a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful new year to you too! :)
Books are my first love, you can never have too many. Thank you for sharing yours ❤
Thank you Lorrie! ❤
Lovely books! I would recommend “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. One of my all time favorites! Merry Christmas!🎄💙

I've got Threads of Life but I've still not come round to sit down and read it! I really need to do that...
Great descriptions of lovely books! Thank you😊
Thank you! :)
This was so interesting! Books are such an investment. Thanks for sharing.

The paintings by Hammershoi were the main influence for the look of the movie “The Danish Girl” with Eddie Redmayne. Love the paintings and the movie.
Interesting - I didn't know that but I can totally see how they would influence a director! :)
I love to se the enthusiasm with you describe your books

Have you seen the book Embroidered Art by Lindsay Taylor, Search Press. It is a beautiful book I was gifted this year in our gift exchange.
I've just looked it up Cathy - it looks fantastic! Thank you for the tip :)
