      is the CPU not bottlenecking the GPU?
      afaik server CPUs dont have that much singlecore performance

    • @ProjectSmithTech
      @ProjectSmithTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AIC_onyt Under Cineabench load it hits around 3 5GHz all core. What's actually holds these chips back is a lack of L1, L2, and L3 cache. If I was just benchmarking the CPUs it would have been helpful to run games at their lowest settings.

      @@ProjectSmithTechah ok thanks.
      i thought these chips would stay at low clocks.
      I currently have an 13600kf with a 6700xt.
      would it harm peformance if I used this CPU instead? i am getting into virtualisation and linux stuff and this CPU is really good from a price performance standpoint. AGtech managed to get it to idle at 30watts in a single socket system

    • @ProjectSmithTech
      @ProjectSmithTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AIC_onyt honestly I think it would be fine. If you're going for proof of concept consider the X99 platforms it's cheaper and in some cases a X99 CPU out performs the P-8124. Also from my experience the dual P-8124 the lowest I've gotten the ideal power draw is a 134watts.

    Hey man, i want to try putting an Rx 7900 xtx into a thinkstation p710 with a xeon E5-2699V4. Total system cost would probably be Something about 1,5k euro.
    Any suggestions?

    • @liambreuner4821
      @liambreuner4821 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Id mostly Like to do this because i am curious If you can do 4k gaming With this.
      I mean i have ordered the machine, i didnt Order the CPU or GPU yet. i originally intended to Just get an E5-2697v4, and some random value For Money graphics Card that somewhat Matches the CPU.
      But now i would really Like to try Making a 4k machine from this. Just For the Heck of it.
      If you think this will be doomed from the start i will probably reconsider. 😅

      @liambreuner4821 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, stoopid question, when the GPU Displays 100% utilisation, and the CPU ~20-50, would a Higher clock Speed CPU be able to increase frame rate or is the frame rate at this Point also entirely Limited by GPU?
      I think the answer to this should be obvious, but i am Just Not Sure.

    • @liambreuner4821
      @liambreuner4821 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe another question you May be able to answer.
      The E5-2697V4 is half the price of the E5-2699V4.
      The p710 has two Sockets.
      Would you get one E5-2699V4
      Or two E5-2697V4s For Maximum Game Performance?
      I assume, its the E5-2699V4...

    • @ProjectSmithTech
      @ProjectSmithTech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you are only gaming, I would recommend single socket. However if you're like me and you have to know, consider the E5 2697 V3. Also for gaming it is better to go for higher CPU clocks. In this video the CPUS didn't Utilize the graphics card very well. The X99 sockets will do a better job. Also if your motherboard only supports the E5 2600 V4 series and you have the budget, consider the E5-2689 V4. That CPU will give you heaps of head room for future projects.

      Thanks man. You are a bro.
      An eBay Situation happened today and i ordered two E5-2697V4 CPUs For 110€. (Total system cost For now is, 426€, will need another cooler (+26€) )
      I dont even Game anything which i would need this For. I try to get the GPU to someone else after Testing it in the system, so it goes to someone who actually uses it. Maybe the Person will even Take the entire Thing. (only If it works as intended.)
      (We both bought into the ThinkPad nerd meme, so ThinkPad branded products have an unreasonable extra value For us)
      I Just really would Like to know If it can be done, since the p710 is such a great package For the price.
      He wanted me to build him a thinkstation before (Budget 1500€), the reason He gave was: For the memes.
      I would still Like to know... If the GPU is at 100%, does a Higher clocking CPU make a big difference? Frame wise maybe No, but in other aspects.
      I think the difference in general usage and quality of Life should still be enough to justify getting a 13th Gen Intel Platform, which was my original plan For him, With an RX 7800 xt (&13600k), For 1440p gaming. Otherwise He will be Stuck With wierd Hardware that is Impossible to improve reasonably.

      The Daul CPUs here have a peak power consumption of 480watts. It's a system I don't leave running all the time. At the moment it's only severing as my video editor. Unfortunately it has an idel power consumption of about 160watts. That makes it useless as a home server.

      @@ProjectSmithTech I am using my build as a Hyper V system for system administration practice. Do you think 4-8 hours a day use if the max tdp for the whole system is below 1000w tdp fine (assuming full load)? I calculated it to about 18 dollars a month extra

    • @ProjectSmithTech
      @ProjectSmithTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @dan91121 If you're happy with the dollar to performance then why not. It also depends on your hardware, cooling and CPU. For example, I wouldn't recommend you run your overcook Intel k Series for an extended amount of time. As for Xeons, if you cooling is good enough, full clocked 24/7 no problems.

      @@ProjectSmithTech Hey, I've been thinking about doing a project build for a multi-player game host machine, Essentially 4 different users remote into the host using spare laptops and use shared CPU resources with individual low powered graphics cards.
      The end goal is to have 4 different users playing 4 separate games all at the same time, essentially a lan party host machine.
      Do you think the dual cpus split into 4 would perform better than say a singular i9 14900k with 24 (8P cores @ 3.2GHZ & 16E cores @ 2.4GHZ) cores 32 threads split
      I'd go with a threadripper but 2 of these amounts to ~$200 USD and to get roughly the same core count threadripper would be Upwards of $1000.

    • @ProjectSmithTech
      @ProjectSmithTech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @castahz Interesting project, the way I'd approach a project like that is I'd use TrueNAS. I would set up four virtual machines and use stream remote play for each system. In that very specific use case, I'd deploy dual CPU setup. Because you'd need the PCIe lanes. Also you'd definitely want the TrueNAS host machine to be feed through a 10g network switch. In theory that should work. I've never tied anything like that.
