⚠️ I want to thank everyone who follows Ship Happens. It's wonderful to watch Simon & Gemma restore & save a historical meaning in this world. Thank you all & please keep it 💯 % real to all us that follow "Ship Happens". Dennis, USA 🇺🇸 .
Wow! Wonderful, generous donation from one of your countrymen. You guys have to be incredibly proud of your accomplishments so far. Thanks again for sharing this project with the world. 🇨🇦
Incredible donation to the cause - it did plane up beautifully too. Maybe a subscriber has a lorry coming your way from Oxford for the remainder? I'm sure you'll find somewhere to store it.
There's bound to be someone in the Manchester Oldham Rochdale area.. failing that there are companies making none ferrous castings still in and around the Blackcountry... They should speak to Sailing Melody..they've already had parts made in this area.🧙🏼♂️🇬🇧
Wow! When we think about it, it is amazing to reflect on how when you first started on wood repair to this episode on your improvement in skills! I realize you have extensive experience in motor sports and caravans, but your growth in AV work and carpentry is outstanding! Thx for bringing us along!😊😊😊 John Ken
Big thank you to the guy that donated the wood. If you are resizing timber a bandsaw has a smaller footprint and is capable of processing larger timber, track saws are better suited to sheet material.
There's an old saying....you don't appreciate what you've got until its gone. I left the Wirral and moved to Kent in 1991. Although I still visit friends and family on the Wirral, I miss living there. I love the scenery and the backdrops that appear in your films during the ongoing restoration of Sarinda. I wonder if you ever stop and just take in the wonderful views and nature that surround you? I'm sure you must do from time to time, but is doesn't always seem to show through as you are both so dedicated in what you are doing. Keep up the good work!
Massive thumbs up to Richard for the wood donation. I do hope you can go back to collect the wood that you had to leave behind. I know that it's a long drive and everything but, where there's a will, there's a way. So pleasing to see more paint going on, more nails coming out, more wood being replaced and Sarinda looking more serene than ever in her new found splendour. My Friday fix, totally satiated. Many thanks.
Massive score of Iroko, there. It's nice to see people helping each other. And I bet you some of those aluminium cleats will turn up, eventually. There's not rush to replicate them just yet.
It's nice to see that Thing, from the 'Addam's Family' show up to help pull the planks back into the boat as Simon is cutting them off from the outside. 😆
The love, workmanship and good intentions you have put into your ship will keep it a float so don't worry about the bottom. Sarinda is looking epic, bit by bit just keep chipping away at her.
I suspect the underneath of the fine ship that is Sarinda will be the easiest part of the rebuild compared to what ya will have achieved above the water line. Managed to pick up one the Ryobi Caulking guns in a thrift shop waht a brilliant piece of kit much easier to control how much ya use and a lot more consistent in flow. The wheelhouse deck transition looks brilliant and looks quite stunning nice job you two. She is slowly waking up to the Ship she knows she can be. Thats a lota work over the 3 years and you should both be proud of what you have achieved. Nice job on the donated timber and good time for a break away doing something different and what a great score. That lot should last ya the rest of the Build. Hope ya had ya weetybix loading and unloading that lot.Keep at it now. ;0)
I used to go on fishing trips on the Coble boats out of Bridlington. The skipper used to pee in the bilges, he said it was to keep them sweet and stop the freshwater rain from causing rotten planks.
It's fresh water that is the killer of wooden hull boats. That's why the top of everything is so rotten, rain gets in and allows rot to set in. From the waterline and below, Sarinda is sitting in salt or brackish water and so the wood is protected. The fore deck and the front of the wheel house are looking great! Gives hope that the rest of the boat will be amazing when it's finally done.
Salt water is a great wood preservative. The lumber used to build the Hawaian palace in Hawaii was built with lumber that was floated from the mainland USA to Hawaii. The palace does not have any problems with termites because of the salt in the wood.
Go and have a look at the boat stocks in Bangor (Port Penrhyn) for putting Sarinda on to inspect the bottom when you are ready. My friend put a 60ft trawler on there so he could work underneath without having to lift her out👍
Simon and Gemma, I am remiss by not saying something earlier but have you considered treating some of the marginal wood with CPES? Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealant. It is great stuff for restoring certain dry rot situations and also a great thing for new wood to preserve it.
Very generous contribution of that iroko. You should recover all of it even if you have to cut to store. PLEASE use bird-mouthed push sticks when using that table saw until you can get an auto-stop version. Only one single accident can lead to a (remaining) lifetime of regret. I never subscribed to losing digits as being a sign of being a veteran wood machinist. Good progress. Consider building and having on board collision mats for when you venture to sea as well as shuttering for cement boxes; tried and tested old school methods that work.
Wow what a massive score that was on all that lumber might be worth a second trip for the balance. What an incredible donation that was! Your sure to make good use of it.
A brilliant gift this should help your project go along way. listening to what you said about the panel saw , i have a Shopsmith which with the various extensions, and 10"or 300m/m table saw takes care of alot of work. Also stripped down to basic takes a few minutes and no more room than bicycle.
That was nice someone giving you all that timber, even though you had to hire a van, bet it saved you loads, pity you couldn't take more of it. Now that fronts been done the boat looks so different, shame about the workshop am sure they could sponsryou by giving you free couple of months. 👍
As you already have one of the cleats, have you looked into the possibility of getting someone to sand cast you some more? I think the biggest cost in sandcasting is making the pattern and you already have one. Carry on the good work cheers 👍
Härligt att se att vändningen gick felfritt. Detta är början på nästa kapittel. Blir spännande att se hur D2 kommer växa fram ut detta skal. ❤❤ till er alla från ett blött å kallt sverige.
Nice score on that lumber. She is coming around, someday you will look back on her and breathe a little easier knowing you really accomplished a great project. I live near the California delta where they had shipyards for ww2 building. Took a screenshot of cleat, going to float it around to see if anything turns up.
The best way to preserve a wooden boat is keeping it in water. The same as cars need to be driven, and aircraft need to be flown. Take stuff out of it's natural environment, and it deteriorates.
Also you might try West Marine for the cleats. They do a lot of marine salvage in Florida. With all the boats destroyed by the hurricanes they might be able to come up with something for you.
For your large panel saw, buy a small utility trailer and build/mount a removable dog house to cover/protect the saw. That type of saw is nice to have but their use is usually sporadic. Also mount leveling jacks to stabilize the trailer when using the saw. Tom in Ohio
Those mooring bitts you can easily build from scratch of stainless steel, you need some plate and thick walled pipe only. Made some for my little ship and they turned out quite nice looking . Much stronger than your cast aluminium ones
The Skil 10" worm drive table saw I have might be an option for you guys in the new workshop. It folds up small and with a set of outfeed rollers, it works great for ripping down big hardwood timbers. I don't know if they're available in the UK, but i got mine for $600 on Amazon.
When ever you see archeologist's dig up old boats the bit they most always find is the bottom of the boat/ shipwreck. Like ya said water outside no water inside. It does amaze me too though thinking of how bad it was when yall got it and wondering how much longer it would have lasted had you guys not got sucked into its grip and thankfully you did
I live in Yarnton, Oxford. I could make use of a couple of lenths of that thick wood if theres still some left. Idea is to sink them down in the ground for posts to fix my very long Radio antennas on too.

I need industrial weapons to tackle my bush hahahaha
What a great donation that wood was nice of that guy.
Gemma is one of the hardest working women EVER!
How generous was that person to give you all that wood!! What an absolute good egg!!

lets give a big like to the Iroko donater, 😍
😎 BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE WOOD MAN. THANKS, SIR. 😎
Incredible donation to the cause - it did plane up beautifully too.
Maybe a subscriber has a lorry coming your way from Oxford for the remainder? I'm sure you'll find somewhere to store it.
I look forward to every Friday to see. The new work getting done
Contact Windy Hill Foundry for a cleat collab. They obviously have a channel here. They cast all kinds of stuff! Cheers from California.
As regards the Cleats, have you tried looking for a local Foundry? You've already got a 'Pattern' so that should cut the cost for a start . . .
Maybe a side project or invite another channel as collaboration (like the capstan on tally ho)
There's bound to be someone in the Manchester Oldham Rochdale area.. failing that there are companies making none ferrous castings still in and around the Blackcountry...
They should speak to Sailing Melody..they've already had parts made in this area.🧙🏼♂️🇬🇧
Exactly what I was going to suggest. A foundry using lost wax casting should be able to make them for you.
The existing cleats can be used as patterns for new castings. The result will be fractionally smaller but only by a fraction of a mm.

TGI Friday Yay anothe episode of the the LIVER Boat Build.
The sad part is having to wait till next friday for the next one.
What an awesome gift all that wood.

It's not very good videography practice to include lumps of dead air in your videos. Footage of break time is dead air. Simple as that.
"We'll have to leave some of the wood, we don't want to overload the van." IT'S A RENTAL!!
,and l thought all rentals were super heavy duty ATV's !!
Thank you, Richard !!
Wow, halloween's nearly here and you've managed to get the Adam's family (Thing) hand to help!
Festool track saw. Expenseive but cut extremely well, almost as good as a table saw.
really good to get the wood donated
I would definitely watch simon do a car series
Such hard workers. You motivate me to keep on going with my own very small projects. Many thanks
Massive thumbs up to Richard for the wood donation. I do hope you can go back to collect the wood that you had to leave behind. I know that it's a long drive and everything but, where there's a will, there's a way.

Thx for the vid.
Friday afternoon, a cup of tea, Ship happening. Thank you. 🙂😘

Very generous donation! Awesome! Cool Vette too!
Greetings once again from Texas! You are making so much progress! I love your videos and will send more $ soon.
You guys must be so fit lugging all that wood… Amazing and very generous donation of all that wood, so many people giving, we are all behind you…
What awesome people you have watching you. Getting that wood must have been a huge bonus for you! 👍🏻
Hi, my Friday is now ok since I have just had my fix of Ship Happens, cheers Roly🇬🇧.
😎 WHAT A GREAT SCORE FIND ON THE BOAT WOOD FOR,
"Ship Happens" Ship Gold It Is.
I suspect the underneath of the fine ship that is Sarinda will be the easiest part of the rebuild compared to what ya will have achieved above the water line. Can’t wait to see her underway!
I used to go on fishing trips on the Coble boats out of Bridlington. The skipper used to pee in the bilges, he said it was to keep them sweet and stop the freshwater rain from causing rotten planks.
There is a chandler in Crediton, Devon. He breaks ships & boats. He may very well have what you're looking for 😊
Hello from Israel.
It's fresh water that is the killer of wooden hull boats. That's why the top of everything is so rotten, rain gets in and allows rot to set in. Really taking shape now. What a bonus to get all that wood! Can’t wait for the next one. Dave Birmingham
All the work you are doing looks Fantastic!! It is so wonderful to see the Beautiful results.
Thankyou for your generous donation sir, to HDML 1392 that's a very thoughtful decision sir, and yes thank you richard for sourcing out this wood.
Go and have a look at the boat stocks in Bangor (Port Penrhyn) for putting Sarinda on to inspect the bottom when you are ready. My friend put a 60ft trawler on there so he could work underneath without having to lift her out👍
What a fantastic pick up on the timber ,many thanks to the donator .
Iroko , poor mans teak, used a lot of it on the boat that i had a few years ago, you're both doing a fantastic job.
That was very generous of whoever for donating all that wood.
Simon and Gemma, I am remiss by not saying something earlier but have you considered treating some of the marginal wood with CPES? Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealant. It is great stuff for restoring certain dry rot situations and also a great thing for new wood to preserve it.

That shot is showing us all how much you guys have achieved it is really looking good.
😎 Happy Days 😎. I've been searching & waiting for you two. Alright, "Ship Happens " let's row on crew. Dennis USA 🇺🇸
My husband recommends saving the arocco off cuts for small decorative jewelry box makers. They may buy them from you. (instead of paint mixers)
Wow what a massive score that was on all that lumber might be worth a second trip for the balance. What an incredible donation that was! Your sure to make good use of it.
Looks like a bit of a Giant Jig-Saw Puzzle to me. Really enjoy watching how you work through the process. She will be Ship Shape in know time.
A brilliant gift this should help your project go along way. listening to what you said about the panel saw , i have a Shopsmith which with the various extensions, and 10"or 300m/m table saw takes care of alot of work. Also stripped down to basic takes a few minutes and no more room than bicycle.
You've certainly got the inner plank removal off to a fine art, well done.
You cant walk the plank till all the works been done but what a result nice one oooooooh loooooook Gemmas got wooooooood
That was nice someone giving you all that timber, even though you had to hire a van, bet it saved you loads, pity you couldn't take more of it. Now that fronts been done the boat looks so different, shame about the workshop am sure they could sponsryou by giving you free couple of months. 👍
yeah free wood - all help is always welcome - great work guys
Looks like a real shipload of good wood.
What a nice stash of wood ! I hope you can go back and get the remainder of what was in the shed. Best wishes
As you already have one of the cleats, have you looked into the possibility of getting someone to sand cast you some more? I think the biggest cost in sandcasting is making the pattern and you already have one. Carry on the good work cheers 👍
I love Simon’s tee shirt. That’s how I live, too. 😎👍
It looks beautiful at the front end now.
my heart was going everytime i seen gemma,s hands pop through the porthole while simon was using the jigsaw
Get a couple of cleats cast from your original as a pattern. A small foundry will do it for a reasonable price.
I have the Milwaukee, track saw ,the tracks can be added to extend the cut length ,great bit of kit .
Härligt att se att vändningen gick felfritt.
Detta är början på nästa kapittel.
Blir spännande att se hur D2 kommer växa fram ut detta skal.
❤❤ till er alla från ett blött å kallt sverige.

This is very good viewing. I like it! Along with Refit and Sail and The Sailing Brothers!
I absolutely love watching your boat renovation on Surinda. Makes my day. 🙂
Happy to hear that!
Ah yes, it’s Friday ❤
Wow, that was a generous gift, a Van full of iroco 👍
The best way to preserve a wooden boat is keeping it in water. The same as cars need to be driven, and aircraft need to be flown. Take stuff out of it's natural environment, and it deteriorates.
Fantastic work
Wow, this donation is well worth a couple thousand pounds! How generous.
Tom in Ohio
It amazing how wood can cost so much that's why people store so much as you never know when it's needed for the next project 😊
Oh yes ………lovely job guys .! ❤
Thanks for cutting the noisy machine noise out during editing!
looking great
Great work 👏
You could cast your own cleats. Aluminum melts at a fairly low temperature.
Thanks for sharing
Wow beautiful wood how nice
Good relevant advertising !!
Those mooring bitts you can easily build from scratch of stainless steel, you need some plate and thick walled pipe only.
Made some for my little ship and they turned out quite nice looking .
Much stronger than your cast aluminium ones

Have you thought about doing some tool reviews you’ve used loads of different ones I’m sure it would be enlightening
Use a load of your scrap nails and brass fitting to sandcastle 2 new cleats, good cold weather project……🙂
I love your planking skills 😘
Yahoo a new video 👍
Good luck excited to see how much closer we get today
👊🏼🇺🇸
Thanks!
That stash of timber is priceless. As rare as rocking horse crap.
super paint job
I live in Yarnton, Oxford. I could make use of a couple of lenths of that thick wood if theres still some left. Idea is to sink them down in the ground for posts to fix my very long Radio antennas on too.
