I just bought an MX-5. It’s arriving in a few days and I can’t wait! I decided on the roadster. The main reason for me was that I did not like all of the blind spots the RF had top up and especially top down. I like the more open aspect of the roadster. Some people like the targa top, but not me. The soft top is also much easier to operate.
As an 2019 Miata owner I opted for the RF because where I live we have a lot of rain and also snow. Considering these weather conditions I thought that it would be a better choice for me.
@@Polyrytmi No I didn't drive the softtop and yes I am very happy with that car. But I saw pictures of the 30 year Edition several days ago and maybe....
I really prefer the soft top for improved visibility. And I agree that it has that “classic “ look. And slightly better handling. Thanks for your video brother!
Actually you get the average version of both worlds. Far from the best. It's a muted version of an open-air convertible, and it's lacks the true benefits of a real coupe.
@@Tones-he3cj oh, no doubt that the RF is a fantastic car. However it's not as a clear choice as you suggest. In my opinion, with the top up, the RF is an absolute beauty. However with the top down, the soft top is better looking from the outside, and a better convertible experience from the inside. There's no doubt about that.
i love look of RF A/T but only reason im considering the soft top because I want to install a luggage rack at the back. Luggage rack will get hit by RF every time i open the roof
Probably not, luggage rack mounts in the trunk lid, the rf top goes into a space before the trunk lid. But a luggar rack kills the look of the rf, imo.
The spirit of the mx5 is softtop, my wife has a NC rht and that's a better compromise at least it's full convertible, just heavier, and you really feel the difference from my 91s/top... ,it's a shame Mazda didn't do that for the RF..... cheers 😀😎😀
charlie12590 mine is a 2018, tracked 3x already, hard spirited driving km the road, and reached 210kph a few times on the highway. No issues at all. All new mx5s (2018 and up) are on the latest transmission version already, which were tested on the Global cup cars. If you buy a 2019, you’d be on the dual mass flywheel tranny, which is stronger even. Buy it and enjoy it. Cheers!
Thanks for the reply. Thats what I wanted to hear. I didn’t see anything on the forums about a transmission upgrade. All I kept seeing was 2016 issues. 👍
rf for the win specially here in PH for security purpose..and its nice to see those motorize roof going up and down..great video..looking to own mazda mx5 rf soon..im torn b/w manual and at..any thought?tnx..😊
I think another thing to consider is that RF with manual Trans is not available in PH. I prefer the RF but not in automatic, for me, manual trans is a big factor that makes Miata to be a driver centric car.
@@MadelnMachines yeah, the RF at above 60mph with top down hurts my ears already, and you can't carry a conversation with your passenger. Its really made to be top up most of the time.
Not for the ones, who actually want a little coupé sports car, like I did and the RF feels just like one. Occasionally putting down the top is something that I sometimes do. Also in my area soft top cars are often cut open with knifes. It should always be the one, that one likes most. That's the only argument that counts if you're not racing it.

@@karoluscamilius417 cool! I use the Mifold booster seat which is compact enough to be stored in my mx5 and is accredited by US dept of Transport for safety.

Let's talk about why Lexie has no seat belt on. Even in a seamingly minor accident Lexie can be killed without any type of restraining system in place. You seem smarter than that!
She's on a Mifold booster seat. At 1:15 I noticed she removed the shoulder belt which got her a scolding and got her shoulder belt back on. She is strapped in already from there on. Thanks for the concern!

Soft top hands down - better looking, ease of operation, lighter - it's classic
Hard top hands down - better looking, sick operation, less maintenance and quieter/stable for passengers - it’s simply better
