This is so exciting. So much progress has been made in just a week on this radio. Hopefully people are backing up the current firmware versions in case things get locked down. It would be great to see some opensource firmware for this in the future.
Thank you for your enthusiastic approach to deep dive into this radio. I got sick of reading nasty comments on other videos how this X6100 is just a Chinese junk and everyone should buy a 705. Even some "famous" HamTubers were just quick to post videos how this is just not a good radio while failing to mention the posibility that Xiegu is onto to something and its a great opportunity for the open source community to improve on this radio and maybe even build a better firmware for it. I am getting mine in a few days and can't wait to tinker with it.
Enjoy! Glad you liked the video. I did get rid of mine. In the beginning, there was a lot of issues with it. That's par for xiegu. Now though, I think it's supposed to be a decent running machine. Ham on!
I'm late to this thread but can this same process be done to the GSOC. Had anyone tried. The G90 is open to all bands but the GSOC is not. So when coupled together it's limited to the GSOC
I was looking at the images you posted the other day of the internals. I have the G90 and it has an obvious mark internally pointing at the 0ohm resistor to remove. Didn't see similar marking in the images and was wondering if transmit could opened up.
Hello, I have a question. I downloaded Firmware 1.1.8 from the official website, installed it on the transceiver and I only have reception on it. With software version 1.1.6, TX and RX work. Do you have any idea why it doesn't work with Firmware 1.1.8? I have a xiegu x6100. I can unlock TX with WinSCP and how if you have any idea. Thank you for your time 73!
I unfortunately, do not know. I got rid of the radio a while back and sold it already. Are you unable to TX/RX at all, or just within the unlocked frequencies? Thanks.
Both of my SDX radios from Alibaba appear to transmit across the entire HF and up to 6m (meaning, they key without error but I've not CONFIRMED that on an SDR)
I’m sure this radio is meant for TX/RX with both 0 (144) and CE (430) buttons on hand mic. Wish the TOADs community would have a quick recap on what they found and what was tried on a form. Not just in discord. If there is one, I would really like to know.
I'm real curious on the rf product. I have a stack of commercial 42-50mhz radio's that I finally "persuaded" to take an entry in the 6 meter band and they didn't rx or tx, but the software excepted it
@@n2rj Correct. In these SDR's and what held me back is you need an outboard coax switch for the proper antenna. Even if it's a "pigtail" (like on small 2mtr radio's) I wish they had assignable ports. Like HF port 1, 6 mtr port and so on
Don't think there is enough memory/cpu power..?? But a custom firmware to turn it into a dedicated HF/6M DigiMode TX/RX Stores qso's in either local adif and/or outputs via UDP
This awful radio is now top of my wanted list, lol. The possibilities are endless it seems. Great job everyone on TOADS Discord, Shout out to Therion and his knowledge. Thanks Dude!
@@HAMRADIODUDE Hola. Se puede abrir de banda sin usar una Raspberry Pi? No tengo Raspberry Pi y me gustaría abrir de banda y watios mi X6100. Existe alguna forma mas sencilla para gente con pocos recursos? Gracias amigo.
I have my doubts that it will go beyond HF/6m as radios that do that use the 2nd nyquist or a transverter. But it will be good for 11 meters pirates though.
If it doesn't work, then oh well. Good for the pirates. The implementation of custom firmware is huge for Amateur radio and exploring is important. We won't know until we try.
I did finally get them to both work after installing the latest update. The bluetooth doesn't really do anything and the wifi is really a PITA to get working, but also doesn't do much. If you know linux, you can FTP or SSH into the radio. But there are no radio implemented features really utilizing any of it, yet.
Hi, how exactly did you get the TOADS file into the file system? I put the new Jan 25 version on an SD card but I can't seem to mount it. I think I'll ask for once before hacking away in linux, my all time favorite OS (finger in throat)
Here is the modified firmware: github.com/TemporarilyOffline/X6100-TOADs/blob/main/firmware/2022-01-25%20App/x6100_ui_v100-2022-01-25-OpenTX-10W-WHITE Just install it as you would any firmware update. Good luck!

@@Jeffsharkcove hey, I'm sorry but there seems to be some confusion. The file I sent you is the full firmware file and in order to install the mod you don't need to mount anymore, you just put the file on the SD card like you would a normal firmware update and install it like you would a normal firmware update. The SD card mounting was something that was done originally before the firmware updates actually started. When you download that file and install it like a firmware, it will automatically put the files into your app QT folder.. I'm sorry if I'm still misunderstanding, but it really seems like you're trying to load the file manually by a mounting an external USB partition.

I don't know anything and I need an elmer, so a LITTLE more information would be helpful. thanks
Just because the firmware is hackable that doesn't mean it will work on 2 MTRS or 70 cms as the hardware probably isn't there to allow the radio to work on these bands .
While it is a matter of time, changing the value of some variable does not equate customizing the software and solving the radio’s problems. I think people will come up with a new “client” software, which is a completely different story.
That is the end goal... But it's not like we dive into custom coding things. We find clues, values and other indications on what we need. We use STLs on the physical boards itself. Sorry you aren't amused, feel free to join us
This is indeed cool... but of course now it is public and I would expect subsequent firmware updates to shut down these points of entry... unless Xeigu is somehow comfortable with this all happening. 📻 🎙
