    ***ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
    Allow me to show you two super home improvement tips to install a towel ring on hollow door so that it never comes loose and falls to the floor.
    Hollow bathroom doors aren't designed to carry a load even as light a towel. That's because there are no solid wood inside of the hollow door to anchor to. The hollow doors are made of two very thin layers of press board.
    This is why many people find their towel rings or bathrobe hooks come loose and fall to the floor. They fasten the rings and hooks with only normal screws which have thin treads and don't hold to the door.
    In this video I show you two home improvement tips that work for me and will also work for you when done properly.
    I use hollow door anchor and a thin layer of PL construction adhesive to mount the towel ring bracket to the hollow door.
    If not abused your towel ring or bathrobe hook will not become loose and fall.
    Thanks for watching and I hope this method works well for you as it does for me!

    So many homeowners like using these door mounted hooks/brackets on hollow doors. It'd be nice if the door manufacturers would re-enforce that part of the upper door for these types of projects. BTW, thanks for a great video.

      Great suggestion. Sticking a small piece of reinforcement on the back of the panel would cost next to nothing.

    Like someone else wrote: SUPER HELPFUL. I liked the steady, calm and deliberate explanation. No frills on this video. Just what you need to know. I am about to put some Moen towel holders up and Moen did not give instructions on how to mount them on a hollow core door, nor did they offer anything when I called them. They only give instructions for mounting them on studs or on drywall. No support for hollow core doors. But with this video. I am 99% confident that this video's instructions *will* work. I am going to get some hollow core anchors with some 3X PL and follow these instructions. Pretty simple too. Put in the hollow core anchor. Remove it. Clean up the edges so that the anchor get re-installed a second time and be flush with this door surface. But before you put the hollow door anchor back a 2nd time, use a q-tip to put a small amount of PL glue on the anchor. Install the anchor. Clean up the glue that rises up a bit using a wet tissue. Bingo. You are done. You have your anchor and are ready to mount a screw to it.
    The only drawback is that the use of the glue probably makes it impossible (or nearly impossible) to remove. Some other person made this comment. Yeah. Bet it is true. So you do want to commit when you put in an anchor this way, as getting it out without seriously damaging the door might be hard. On the other hand, having a hollow core anchor pull out is going to do quite a bit of damage too.

    Good idea using construction adhesive on the anchors! I've never seen that done before. I typically use wide thread screws and adhesive on the back side of the bracket I'm installing. Makes it impossible to uninstall, though

    Toggler makes a plastic wing anchor (similar to a toggle bolt) designed specifically for hollow doors, it's much stronger than this type of anchor, and no adhesive needed. Just drill a 5/16" hole and install, simple. Also works with a wide range of screw sizes.
    Also, you're a brave man to be handling such a strong polyurethane adhesive, with no gloves on!

    I'm easily confused when it comes to basic tasks like this so forgive me. So, is it that you can't use a regular plastic anchor on a hollow door? Is that why you need a specific anchor for hollow doors? Also, can you use the hollow door anchor without using the PL? Thanks, I appreciate the tutorial.

    • @GettingItDoneNorthOf7
      @GettingItDoneNorthOf7  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The plastic anchor will fall out over time. The hollow door anchors work good but for assurance I add the pl. Mine still hasn't fallen out, it's still solid. You can buy PL in a squeeze tube as well. Thanks for watching.
