    There should’ve been a plot line where Tony goes after Melfi’s attacker. A two part episode actually, I understand what David Chase was trying to go for but I still think Tony should’ve exacted his revenge on behalf of her, have it end with Melfi being satisfied that she got justice but now worried that not only did she pretty much tell Tony to kill someone but now He’ll hold that over her and act as if she owes him but unbeknownst to her that’s not what he was thinking at all, he was doing it because he genuinely cared for her and wanted to help

      I understand the decision and the logic behind it, but Melfi was already pretty amoral about treating Tony, accepting his blood money and using him as some sort of sick entertainment. The morality of her choice is cut short. If she would've quietly dropped Tony after not telling him after the attack, it would've been more meaningful.

    If a lot of characters lasted longer, we could’ve had some good plot lines or even just funny scenes. Mikey Palmice and Richie convincing Junior to go to war with Tony. Richie and Feech plotting against Tony. Mikey and Ralph interacting. And how Jackie Sr would’ve handled a lot of scenarios as boss. Chris’s addiction, puss flipping, his kid robbing the card game, and how he would handle Blundetto killing Billy and Joey.

    I like the Chris Hansen and Opie references. Mine is them killing that waiter in AC. That could've been a major investigation. A five-family underboss, the top 2 in NJ, 4-5 other made guys, (at least one an FBI informant). Their waiter is shot to death in the parking lot, ten minutes after they left, holding their $1200 unpaid bill? but they weren't even questioned??? The FBI should've been in the parking lot surveilling that dinner. Edit: I meant the Otis reference. Opie was his the kid, played by Ron Howard,

  • @FunkBastid
    @FunkBastid 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    I think the AJail plotline would have played out like this:
    -Tony pulls strings with locked up wise guys to get his son clicked up with them for protection
    -Tony makes it clear that under no circumstances is AJ to get mixed up with any crime on the inside. He should quietly do his time, and get out
    -AJ desperately tries to get mixed up in crime on the inside
    -The wise guys begrudgingly give him some small tasks
    Two ways to go from here:
    Either A: He messes up these simple tasks, gets in trouble, and elongates his sentence while annoying the wise guys protecting him as well as Tony
    Or B: He does these tasks successfully, and gets more involved with the life his father tried so hard to keep him away from
    Both of these stories keep to the theme of increasing Tony’s suffering, and while AJ is closer to Jackie Jr. than Furio, he could have a similar turnaround to Bobby’s.

    • @fathertedczynski
      @fathertedczynski 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think it could be interesting if AJ either didn't serve time or he serves a short sentence. Then seeing him mess up wise guy tasks could create more problems for Tony, who tries to please his guys that have been wronged by AJ while still trying to keep AJ distant from the mob. Could be an interesting metaphor for Tony, who's trying to lead the double life, but ultimately lets crime seep into his family dynamics. They kinda hinted at this with AJ at the end too, when he and the Parisi kid rough up the guy from the party.

    Even if we don't follow up on Valery, I think the Russians had a lot of potential. Tony seems to treat the Russians as equals, which is interesting because this is a parallel criminal organisation that presumably has its own motives, rules, and traditions - some of which may be incompatible with those of the Mafia. So much of the conflict in the show revolves around a shared culture and partial adherence to norms like "leave the family out of it", but I don't think we ever see Tony deal with a real criminal threat that doesn't observe those customs, or who has less of a stake in maintaining the existing power structure of the 5 families - which the Russians can never be a part of.

    Im happy I wasnt the only one who thought about Uncle Jun' and Richie. The whole show I was expecting that Uncle Jun' would be fighting back against Tony to retake control of the family using Richie as Mike's replacement. It would've been an amazing plotline how this old school gangster now an elder is still trying to regain his position as leader while also fighting against his worsening mental state. And in the end it could have been the same scene of Uncle Jun' in the ward, now a shell of himself, but it would've had that extra punch of seeing what a man could become upon the realization of failure of his life's greatest ambition - to be the Godfather now that Johnny Soprano and Dickie Moltisanti were out of the picture but to have it *denied* to him, trapped now within his own failing body and mind.
    But it never happened!!!!! He was resigned to just be the grandpa of the show collecting royalty checks from Tony like it was social security. Just watching TV, chilling with Bobby, going to funerals for fun, and slowly dying for 6 seasons.

    #1 - I would like to have seen a moment where Carmella is confronted with undeniable evidence of Tony's horrors that she can't possibly ignore. She either decides right then and there she can't be a part of this anymore and saves her soul by walking right out the door and into a poor, modest life, perhaps as a waitress or something. Or, she realizes though she hates what Tony has done, she realizes she is much too weak to go it alone and accepts that she is trapped forever in a terrible marriage and life and there's no way out and she's going to hell.
    #2 - I would have liked to see how the kids deal with their own complicity as they grow up and come of age. It looked like Meadow was on her way to becoming a mob lawyer and an oblivious mob wife that makes Carmella look like a teetotaler. I think AJ, if he pulled it together, would have wanted to distance himself from the mob life and go it alone.
    #3 - I think it would have been fun to see more with Gabby, Sil's wife. I theorize she was the anti-Carmella. She totally understood Sil was a scumbag and fully supported it. Probably gave him advice on how to be a better criminal so he could bring home more cash.

    My problem with the open plotlines isn't necessarily that they're open but that it's unclear whether or not they're open on the first watch-through. Like in hindsight I can see that Melfi had a complete arc in the situation with her attacker, and it doesn't bother me that she never told Tony. But on the first watch-through, that sense of resolution doesn't come through because you don't know that her decision not to tell him is final. That only really happens when you get through several episodes without it being mentioned, then you can look back and realize that was the end of that plot thread.
    This isn't the end of the world, like I said it works fine in hindsight it's just a little awkward as it first happens. I'm also not really sure what the writers could do to make the resolution more apparent.

    I feel like "The Blue Comet" should have wrapped up Season 6 and have the NJ/NY war be the entire focal point of a seventh season.
    The entire ending of the series felt a little bit too rushed.

    Near the start of the first season they talked about AJ potentially having ADD, I wish they maybe looked at Tony too when it came to this because he had pretty much all the symptoms discussed about AJ. I think it would been interesting but I also like the psychological side of the show a lot!

    Honestly The Sopranos S+ tier plot ends with Season 2. Worst has to be the Gay Vito plot...last season of the show and half of it is a slapstick comedy spinoff.

      Well to be fair the gay plot got inspiration from a real mob boss who was murdered for being gay.

    AJ getting out of the attempted murder was fine. I wish instead Tony made Christopher step in to help mentor AJ and AJ ends up getting into “The Life”. This shows juxtaposition to Tony’s story and being mentored by Christopher’s father. We got a taste when AJ was friends with the college students and they poured acid on the other students feet, but with Christopher behind the wheel the violence could be reasoned to AJ. This justification of violence could lead to AJ justifying the attempt on Junior.

    Not having Tony and Carmella educate Meadow and AJ about Christopher Columbus was a MAJOR missed opportunity. You can't judge ppl of the last by today's standards (presentism). Instead, the writers showed their left-leaning biases by just having Tony wave his hands in the air simply saying "In this house Christopher Columbus is a hero!" with no reasoning or logic behind it.

    There was an episode near the end of the series where Tony and Christofuh rip off and humiliate a couple of bikers (the Vipers if memory serves), and it was never mentioned again. I remember thinking that in the real world those guys would never let that go. I always thought this incident should have escalated into an ongoing storyline where the Jersey crew goes to war against the Vipers, possibly even finding that they've finally bitten off more than they can chew. Might have been a more satisfying way of ending the series.

    Be it the state pen or feds wise guys and their families don't really get touched. They still hold a LOT of sway. LCN isn't as big or powerful as it once was but they still have a lot of power, they're well connected with long standing ties, and still have a lotta guys behind the wall. So all it would take is Tony reaching out to the right person, probably throwing a little cash their way, and AJ would be under somebody's wing in no time and basically be untouchable. The downside to this is it would almost certainly set AJ on the mafia path even when he gets out so his future as a civilian would likely be shot.
    I definitely felt more coulda been done with those wars but looking at how many real life mafia wars have gone it was very accurate. So I can't complain too much. David Chase seemed to try to be very careful to avoid glorifying the violence and all that so he probably did it for that reason too.
    I have a few myself, Furio's storyline being a big one.
    But my biggest is probably seeing Tony B's story through at least 2 seasons as originally planned, if not to the very end. I'd actually loved to have seen him in his killer mode fighting NY and maybe being killed instead of Bacala or Sil. But they for some reason wrote themselves into a corner when he killed Billy and shot Phil and that was that.
    I also wish Feech coulda hung around longer but it seemed like his fate was unavoidable due to issues with the actor from the few stories I can remember.
    Another big one for me is the full story behind Ralphie and the abuse he survived at his mother's hand that seemed to be a big part of why he was the way he was. Joey Pants in an interview talked about scenes they shot regarding that but none of it ever aired and I think it woulda been cool to see another character like Tony that was a monster that was made, not born, but I guess they didn't agree and cut it.
