  • I have been "Caving" (Splunking) since I was 12yrs old. Walking a Boardwalk through a very dimly light cave that is either HUGE or Cramped doesn't impress me. But all the things outside the cave and in the park area is amazing. Take your bike, hiking shoes, and Kayak. You will have a ball!

    Have not been to Mammoth Cave for YEARS!!! I don’t remember the hiking trails you described, so I will go back again soon!! Thanks for your video!!

      Thanks for the comment. The guides told us that year ago you could just buy a ticket and go into the cave alone. You can tell us if its different than when you were last there!! lol

    Greetings Rick. My wife and I toured the cave a couple of years ago and it was really nice. This year we took the shortest tour and were very disappointed. 15 minutes of walking and 45 minutes of the tour guide yakking away. Blah…blah…blah. We drove the park and liked it. We may stay at the park next time and do hiking instead of cave. Thanks for the video.

      Sounds great! I would recommend enjoying the land in the park. It has a lot to do and some great things to see outside the cave. I think the tours have really tried to reduce the impact on the caves and rushed people through. And the guides aren't really knowledgable if it isn't in their script. But still .... Its a nice national park.

    I always enjoy your videos Rick! Living in the CNY area I love our state, but I like to live vicariously while watching. Don’t know if I’ll ever make it to visit these great parks in my lifetime. It’s always a plan for retirement. Love Akela on the bed behind you near the end.

      YA, Akela is the critic that points out I talk too much and not enough stick action!! I was back in CNY last summer, I will be there again this summer. And I miss the snow!! Having worked in Oswego from 2000-2017! Keep a plan, you'll get to the best places I show if you want to!! Thanks for the comment !

    Thx for the spelunking, Rick! We've never been to this site, but we have explored Carlsbad Caverns, Karchner Caverns, as well as a neat cave in South Dakota called Wind Cave... There's also a cave in upstate NY that includes a ride in a row boat, underground!! Can't recall the name of that one... There are Lava Tubes near Flagstaff AZ that are rather neat... otherwise, we tend to stay above ground as much as possible.
    Pork chops are great, and should not be overdone!! Yours look perfect... along with the stuffing!! YUM!! Safe travels!!

      Thanks Pete! Could you be thinking of "Howe Caverns". They were about 60miles from my house. Like most locals, I never went! So now I have to go back 12 hrs to see the stuff I could have seen then!! LOL. Life is strange!

    Enjoyed my tour of Mammoth Caves a few years back. Took the 2 hour tour. Beautiful county side around the park. I may even ave visited a few distilleries while in Kentucky!

    Love these videos. I have traveled around the West Coast extensively and would like to make it to the east coast and inland areas sometime but never realized how many wonderful parks and camping areas there are out there. I can see I will have to make several trips out there to enjoy the many wonderful sites.

    • @GoingNoWhereFast
      @GoingNoWhereFast  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should! You might never go back!! The east is very green, and has lots of free open land (but covered with trees!) It can get crowded, but then so can the west if you go to the more popular places. So come on over to the "Right Coast"!!

    Great video Rick. Was there pre covid . Your review is spot on . Love the cemetery walk . Have you done much camping in Massachusetts and Connecticut as far as historical sites and old cemeteries? Where were your vegetables in that meal. Bad boy eat more veggies, 😂

    • @GoingNoWhereFast
      @GoingNoWhereFast  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I either eat meat or vegetables, rarely both at once. Too much food. Way back in 2016 I camped along the Connecticut coast and Rhode Island. Hung Around Mystic for a week checking out historical sites and cemeteries. Done Cape Cod Robertson St. Pk. and Mt. Grey Lock, but not a ton in Mass. I prefer NH & Vt... lol Thanks for the comment and your support !

    My wife and I were at Mammoth a couple of years ago and I agree with you. It was a really nice park. Much nicer then I thought it would be. I enjoy nicely cooked pork chops too. The best part is when you pick it up and chew the bits of meat off the bone. Sometimes my wife gets the thicker ones, slices them open, and puts the stuffing inside. Mmmm good! My wife's a bit like you when it comes to cemeteries. Me, not so much. I figure I'll be there for a very long time soon enough. 😁

      Ha ha.. I always thought I wanted to know who else was in the cemetery before I took up residency. I would hate to have noisy neighbors!

    It looks like the campsites would have lots of nice shade in the summertime! Good to know about the sites near the road. 420 miles of caves! Glad Akela had a special linear park for his enjoyment. A Cemetary is a very special kind of database. Listening to Akela pant in the background - it was really good that you mentioned there was a pork chop for him.

      It's worth it. The cave is HUGE inside and out. And the rest of the park is amazing in geology, wildlife, and just natural features! Thanks for the comment
