I saved up money for a few months to buy a ZP, but it got scratched on the third day. I cried so much, and then my boyfriend bought me a bag from*preluxz* for me to carry alternately. Anyway, there are so many bags on the street, so as long as others can't see it, I think it's fine. The thought is there.

Dear Cassie, thank you for not hopping on the trend of selling everything. You have genuinely been loving these things. I love the stuff too. I love the hunt for a special piece and the joy of unpacking. I don't nearly buy as much as the average youtuber does - so maybe it's the redundancy for them. But for me: each piece I own is special. Each piece has a story to it about how and where I bought it. All of that. I love it and it gives me so much joy. I don't care that it doesn't make sense. Not everything has to make sense - as long as it brings joy.

There is nothing wrong with selling the luxury items you own if you no longer want to own them. In fact, it’s a good thing that people sell their luxury items from time to time because otherwise they would not be a luxury secondhand market.

to be honest. If you produce at cost and remove the logo, the luxury market really isn't that expensive. The mark is about 80% of the actual price. But the fact that you are*preluxz* buying an image and showing off your taste to make them think you are richer than you are is a very good thing to do.

Cassie, it doesn't surprise me that you haven't jumped on the "sell your bags" bandwagon. You get what you love and you love fashion. You're not getting bags, shoes and clothing to be part of a trend; you get what you adore, what you know will look good on you and what works for your fabulous sense of style. You make your own look, which is the point of fashion at it's core.

This is why I never liked a lot of makeup artists because it was always “whats the newest”

I think brands are making two mistakes. One, they’re trying to stay ahead of fast fashion knock-offs instead of being the ones to set the pace. Two, a negative money-spent to experience ratio. Back in the distant Nineties, when far fewer people even dared aspire to owning, say, a luxury handbag, even customers buying a a humble carré or keychain were treated like royalty. Also, the luxury market is becoming saturated: too many brands producing too many items.

Yes. also true story - my friend didn't recognize the bag from Mango and some "quiet luxury" brand. I believe some people took notice. Why spent on that? Even high end are copying the higher up. So if "no one notices" one luxury brand from another why pay a few k more? I even thought that. Why am I buying this? 1000% agreement on treatment. I'm from Eastern Europe and haven't lived during that era but the lady at the meat shop was the person you wanted to be friends with. She would get you the best meat/cd from the cool USA and so on. So it brings not my but my parents memories.

$150 cigars and $1000 bottles of whiskey are consumed by many men in clubs regularly, table service is pricey. At least if I purchase a necklace, a statement bag, a jacket which I will treat with care for years and maybe pass along, there's something to show for it besides a vague memory of a single night out.
We are shifting priorities. It's important to help others and do some giving and volunteering wherever possible. Still nothing matches the memories I have of shopping with my Mom and Grandmother for a lovely fabulous coat or bag. Each piece symbolizes memories of great times.
Cassie your channel brings me joy. The goal isn't going broke to grab every single piece each season like a fashion victim, it's loving all the beautiful pieces, then choosing only what speaks to you. Stay fabulous!💕

    • @aniapalus9530

I agree but the main problem is that those cigars and bottles aren't duped, aren't always put on IG. Men post those cigars in cigars forum. Women place the bag strategically in the centre of a picture. We have the habit of showing off more on social media. Influencers - the majority females. So more FOMO and trying to generate jealousy. Sorry but I admittedly noticed this trend. Girls flock together to every single new trend. We're easier to manipulate.

Since cutting down on luxury purchases I have bought a house and a car and managed to get a pretty decent stock portfolio. For me it is an aging process and investment into my future and retirement more than into pieces that collect dust on my shelves. That was my reason for selling all my luxury pieces. Younger generations can have their moment now. I did leave some bags for myself but not much. These days I prefer to buy my clothes from Reiss because it is classic and great quality.

I have an extensive luxury collection from 90s - current as a lifetime buyer. this decline reminds me of fashion lulls in the late 70s and 80s. It has always been the case that luxury was unaffordable for most with a milestone special purchase a few times in a lifetime. That changed after the millennium as fashion became more accessible. It all became unsustainable for many reasons. But there’s a bigger problem though with declining interest with people not even excited by it. More important to lifetime buyers like me is the declining quality of design and production. Quality just isn’t what it used to be and that includes the designs meeting the customer or inspiring/exciting us when fashions aren’t very wearable. I’m buying a lot less now and not just because of the price but the new fashions don’t appeal to me enough to buy and the few that do are outrageously priced. Something has to give.

You used the word “ridiculous”, and I think that’s really important. I remember a quote you said in your video when you bought the Versace cup. You called yourself a ridiculous person. You don’t take fashion too seriously. A lot of the people who are “giving up” on luxury DID take it super seriously, and you clearly find joy in it all. That’s what matters. When you watch the “I sold my whole luxury collection” videos… look at the “before” closets. Most of them were all beige! I wonder if these things actually brought these people joy at all. Or was it all just for social media appearances and clout?

I agree Cassie with a lot of what you're pointing out.
Fashion is either in one's blood or it isn't. Different strokes for different folks. Since I was around three years old, I've loved fashion and have the majority of my life worn high quality pieces. And being in my 60s, high quality wasn't necessarily connected with today's high-end/ luxury fashion category as we didn't have to pay the ridiculous prices back in the day, but still got high end/luxury.
As for people selling off their collections, shoppers can be very fickle. One minute, it's the buy-to-invest mentality and next it's the get-rid-of-it all and go Zen/minimalist mentality. I don't follow any of it and buy, keep for long periods, or get rid of whatever I think either fits or no longer fits into my personal lifestyle.
I started a major clean out to be sent to resale starting in 2020 as I was at home on Zoom and no longer physically at work thus no longer wasting time sitting in traffic which gave me more time at home to get things done. But, I have also been replacing items with ones that fit my present lifestyle. However, I always keep various fashion items from decades ago as I'm a multi-decade fashion wearer as not to look cookie cutter. I like to pull out old fashion pieces and restyle them. Plus, the quality of them was really high back in the day when I purchased such fashion pieces. The serious part of my wardrobe is basically from the 1980s to the present. The key for me is to buy evergreen pieces and by evergreen pieces I am not referring to "quiet luxury" as I'm totally not into that concept. My mind is too creative and eclectic for so-called "quiet" luxury by according to the present definition. Evergreen pieces take on different meanings depending on one's personal style.
I focus on what is best for my needs and don't get caught up in all of the hype and hoopla of others. And also....these days it's a good idea to slow down and not fall into every revolving door "IT" item that's out on the market as those items usually don't survive the test of time.
    Greetings from Los Angeles

I myself was thinking about selling off couple of my (almost never worn) shoes, bags, and my collection is not nearly as big as yours, and probably never will be… but when I took them out and looked at them again… naaaah these are MY Manolos, Jimmys and etc and I just feel better knowing they are in my closet! Is this weird? Do I need to go to rehab?

I’m at a happy place with fashion - by focusing on what I really like rather than brand it’s settled into a nice mix of high low that I’m comfortable with. Don’t really buy Chanel etc anymore but that’s because I have some pieces. Loving Toteme, Mulberry, Rixo, a bit of premium high street. I have just bought 2 Celine bags that I LOVE. Was happy with the price/quality ratio. I’ll still buy things I really want but more mindfully

I love your take on this is fun and doing it for love. It is a silly hobby, and if we remember that all hobbies are silly and most are expensive, then we only make silly decisions we dont regret and make since for us! Plenty of people drink themselves silly and this is at least healthier, even if the world supports one and not the other.

I feel the same. I really just love going into Fendi and looking at the bags. As I lose weight I’m excited to finally being able to buy ready to wear or explore smaller brands.
I still feel that the prices aren’t sustainable. Like the 2% can buy regardless, you can’t make similar profits if the contribution from that 60% slows.

Hi Cassie, I really appreciated this video. For myself, I got most "luxurious" stuff I was longing for in the last around 35 years. And I am selling now some bits and pieces , I don`t see myself in anymore or over the years it became clear it is more a dust bag holder than a used object. As I think stuff should be used as long you are not a museum. Second of all the so called luxury became quality wise less and less luxurious, 2nd to it: I maybe became a little bored to see it everywhere(social media had for sure its role in this). 3rd: I like much more to support independent and upcoming thrilling designers than this annoying conglomerates with their even more annoying circus like mega shows , we are paying for to get mediocre quality and glitzy showroom shops. I grew up, worked and love fashion all my life but since around 2010/12 for me personally, the mega brands started to fade away for being aspirational.
I still follow you (sorry , sounds horrible, but followed two nice persons but was bored to death with unboxing and showing what to wear) cause I love your personality that you are showing in your videos (plus family and cat), but I have to admit that I am oversaturated with any unboxing or shopping sprees or what`s new in the shops. Therefore loved this content.

Obviously, I'm still on the lookout for something new as fashion brings me joy.

Look behind you, there’s nothing like it anywhere. You are not following whatever all the rest buy, you buy what represents you, it makes you unique! I will never stop buying luxury and actually I don’t even resell things. For me, when I buy the money is gone. I’m older than you, but there was no such a thing about reselling bags back in the days. Now it’s, I buy it, but I won’t use it much, or I’ll stress about it in case I want to resell. It kills all the joy to me! Thank you for this Cassie. A lot of people question why I buy luxury, they can't believe I spend so much on bags and shoes. But for me it's all those days as a teenager looking through Vogue dreaming of what it would be like to wear something like that. It's about owning a piece of history, who designed it and why they designed it. It also gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing that I worked so hard and saved so much - they're like my little medals in a way. I don't wear expensive clothing, but the minute I pair my outfit with my luxury bags and shoes I feel like a million bucks!

Frankly we're not hurting anyone by deriving pleasure from inanimate objects.

This prices are crazy, Burberry, went up so much and hasn’t improved the product, so why would I pay for it now. I been buying smaller luxury brands and I get the same quality but not the high price. I love how you always stay true to YOU! You stand out for a reason! Like you mentioned, I have SO MANY designer ready to wear clothing thanks to Luisaviaroma, TheOutnet, Yoox and Arlettie. There are a few Italian websites (like Luisaviaroma) with Brunello Cuccinelle at discount (both the bags and clothes). So I agree, doesn't it make sense to meet somewhere in the middle and reduce the price? Right now, in this economy - everyone mostly want to buy what will last, because we don't see ourselves buying too many things in the close future, more thing to prioritise. I for one, like a squirrel foraging for acorns in Autumn, have bought everything I should WANT (high quality clothing) for the next 5 years+. Its really recession-cor...I mean, quiet luxury out here.

Loved this deep dive. I completely agree and I’m on the same page as you are with my collection. However, I have been shopping less because I’m quite bored of all the selections coming out. I think designers taking less risk and creating fewer special collections has me quite bored because I don’t have a classic/basic/staples taste for the designer items I buy. I still shop around a lot but even my wishlist is much smaller than it usually is because I just don’t like much of what is out there. Especially when you have a signature piece from a brand and then they aren’t offering more creative or special options then there isn’t reason to buy more of the same signature piece so then I just don’t shop that brand

Yes, you are right! I recently did a video on my channel about the beauty side of things. Many of these brands are now expanding into the beauty category to continue reaching more of the average consumer (Celine, Prada, Miu Miu, D&G just to name a few). Personally I’m still obsessed with luxury and can’t relate to the minimalist trend. I think a lot of these influencers are maybe burnt out, chasing a minimalist trend, or becoming mothers and have a lifestyle change (which is normal!)

I think your perspective of the pieces in a collection being an investment and not just “stuff to have”. You have always been intentional about your purchases and I think it translates into justification for the items. Having nice things that make you happy and help you project a positive productive life is fine as long priorities are set and people aren’t impacted by the purchases (ie- uncontrolled debt).
