I can’t do it. Personally i bought every item i own because i loved it and didn’t think to resell it. I think the people who buy with the intent of reselling may want to purge.
You are a class act, Caleb. I find myself wondering if she bought all those bags to get views, and now she can get more views by being dramatic about downsizing her collection. Also, the stock videos are so cringe. One of the reasons I love your channel is that you truly appreciate bags for their craftsmanship, artistry, and let's not forget materials. Bags aren't always an appropriate topic of conversation in my everyday life, so it's so fun for me to connect with people online to geek out with.
Thank you so much! I'll admit, I was worried this video would come off the wrong way, and I didn't want to come across like I was attacking or mocking her. I'll admit- I wasn't a fan of all the stock footage either. And thank you! You're right- I really love and appreciate bags. And I think it's so cool that we have this space to connect and chat- otherwise, most people in my day-to-day life would be annoyed with me! haha!
@bags_books_and_bowwows Please stop with the artistry on hand bags. And they don't make you a class act . Just buy a quality bag and get on with your life.
Yup - she's moving into "quieter luxury" now. Still luxury - just not loud logos, which is no longer on trend. Her aesthetic has changed as she is moving towards a cleaner, more minimal look and in that realm, Chanel and LV appear dated and a bit lame. That's the real reason. Could have done without the virtue signalling on the way.
I’ve been a luxury minimalist for years with a lifestyle more towards sustainable fashion and still found her video to be way over the top. I was confused at first because I technically share a lot of the values she touched on in her original video on the topic, but it truly felt so disingenuous and pretentious in a way that I genuinely struggled to put words to. It was like she learned about a topic a few weeks prior and instantly became a prophet spreading the word on concepts that she herself is still learning and shaming others in the process. It was exemplified in the video about personal style and hoping off the supposed hamster wheel, but the whole video was an advertisement for a jewelry brand. Like it’s comically insane.
A few years ago Niki’s videos were all over my feed, and I watched a couple, and just could not continue. Pretentious and hollow, just hard to put your finger on, but they were annoying me.
There is nothing special about handbags versus any other type of collection. One can make the argument that all collections are a waste of money and resources. If the collection brings you joy and you can afford it, that is a good reason to have it. If not, maybe move on to something else.
I didn't know who she was either. You're very kind, Caleb. I found her video ridiculous, honestly. As you said, you can have a transformation without getting rid of your bags. Why is she even telling us? Why do we care? She also make a lot of generalizations about those who buy and love these items, which I found to be offensive. What I found most offensive was the insinuation that we buy these items to flaunt them to the world or that it's some status symbol. THE WORLD DOESN'T CARE! We only care because we are into this stuff. No one else cares. They don't. I was one of them before I got into this, and I never noticed once what bag someone was carrying. I agree. it doesn't sound like she was buying these items for the right reasons. Lastly, yeah, her young daughter might not know the differnce between a Walmart bag and a Chanel today. That was a silly statement.
The folks who supported her to this point....should definitely feel bamboozled by her doing this, the way she did this.. Calling it mindless,& such...Folks PLEASEEEE,....Stop supporting folks like this!@
Thank you, Gene! I agree- some points were valid, but overall they felt like brought generalizations. I definitely think she went into buying these things for the wrong reasons, especially considering the point she made regarding why these things are "bad".
I sold all my luxury bags except one by the end of 2022. I sold them over 3 years. I kept my neverfull because it was my push present and baby bag. I sold 13 bags, all high luxury brands. I do plan on repurchasing two bags next year but that will probably be all. I just plan to spend my money on travel, investing, and savings.
You had more sense to blur the child’s face than her own mother (I watched her video and was appalled she plastered her children’s faces everywhere)-I agree with everyone here Caleb-you’re a class act & very kind. ❤ PS: I think some folks got triggered because she speaks in generic terms and her language implies we all buy designer items for the same reason she did. It also implies you can’t be wholesome and buy luxury/designer items. It’s either/or with her new/improved philosophy.
I was shocked at how many TH-camrs were so offended. I really got annoyed as Connor basically called her “insecure” when people who are easily offended are usually the insecure ones. She has a lot of valid points, would I go that extreme, no, but I get it. I went through something similar to her, just not that extreme. I really take no issue with Niki or what she is doing.
This is a valid point. It might however, be a result of her sharing that she is tired of owning bags because of status, yet still owning a great number of items that render the same results, if we are speaking about luxury items. The construct of luxury and exclusivity does not start and stop at bags. If you aren’t into bags anymore then why keep any of the bags? I literally see her repeating the bag shuffle in her video. Is she selling them all, donating them all? I agree folks do not have to be rude about their opinions, but I see why individuals feel like she is being inauthentic. IMHO.
Yeah, I understand that as well, it’s just how they take it personal, when it literally has zero to do with them. There’s not 1 TH-camr I can think of that I agree with 100% or even 50%. If I don’t care for what they’re sharing I move on to another video.
I think it’s their own insecurities about how much they buy so they were on the defensive. A few were beyond tacky. Angelique Eva and Melinda (not Melissa lol) from Luxpurselove were also kind.
I love the way you structured this so those of us who haven't watched her video (and won't) can see it along with your live reactions. I'm in the negative reaction/suspicious camp. She doesn't come across to me as genuine (I could be wrong, of course) and I wonder what's really behind this decision and, like you said, what else is going to change in her life. If the bags with logos have become so negative to her because they're status symbols then what other status symbols will she be purging (it seems like she has a lot of them)? Will she be downsizing her house? Trading in her car (I'm assuming she has a fancy one) for a Nissan? Shopping at Walmart for clothes and bags now? Also, I have little respect for people in their 20s or later who are just now realizing that material things and the opinions of others are not what is actually important in life. And to your point, you can live a healthier life (be a good person, as you said) and still have fancy bags. They're not mutually exclusive. Good for her if she's finally realizing this but what the heck took so long? There's definitely more beneath the surface.
I think it’s interesting that she is going to keep the non-logo luxury bag and the pricey branded jewelry. I just don’t see the point of her advertising this. Plus, quiet luxury and getting rid of the logo bags is a trend and it feels she is just following a trend. It doesn’t feel authentic. I think when trends change so will she. I think there will be more logo luxury bags in her future once those trends change.
exactly I understand she is a different person now, since it took IV and other methods to become a mother. I watched her for years and she was one of the reason I chosen luxury high quality pieces in my wardrobe. I paid over $20,000 for these items, now she telling me to throw them out. I personal think she needs therapy and coming on TH-cam telling her followers to get rid of thousands of dollars she coached us to buy over 7 years.she now preaching that as a mother you shouldn't wear Chanel or Hermes, that B.S. She was on here not to long ago praising her husband for building her a custom made closet
If a TH-camr coached you into spending 20k on luxury items, that TH-camr isn’t the one who needs therapy. It might be fake for views, it might be real. Who knows. TH-camrs are in the business to get clicks and views. It’s where the money comes from. Its marketing.
Sorry darling, but I also watched her videos for over 6+ years now :) and I’m in my 20s so still very young and I never bought stuff I could not afford, because of her. You are responsible for your own finances. No TH-camr on this channel is responsible for your finances and spending. You are the one who needs therapy if you get so easily influenced by people you don’t even know. This is ridiculous 😂
I can’t get past the D R A M A and the level of A C T I N G that’s taking place. Girl, calm down. You’re clearly doing just fine, stop acting like you’re cutting off an arm in what’s nothing more than a poorly disguised ad for something else.
@hollygrace6814 True. Some of us need 300 handbags in our closet to define us. Some of us are hoarders /collectors and people like us that keep the economy going. You can never have too much material things.
Caleb, you were so kind , non-judgemental during this video. You are such a class act and I absolutely love that about you. My take is that she bought those bags, clothes, jewelry and shoes in order to "fit a role" she had in her head; rather than buy the things she has/had because she loved them. It's so easy to fall into that trap, given the emphasis on material things these days. I've seen others get caught up with that nonsense. It didn't make them happy. Having the latest, greatest, shiny things in order to fit what one believes to be the image of a successful person is exhausting and it's a game no one wins. I'd much rather enjoy what I buy than care about what others think. I learned that lesson decades ago. Life has been much better since I rejected that mindset of having the "right" things as far as fashion/accessories/shoes.. I wear what I like and get things I love. Life is far too short to do otherwise. I love fashion in general, but I really love handbags and shoes. I go for what fits my personal style and I go for quality. I don't care what the "hot, it bag" is; if I love a bag and can afford it; I'll get it. If it happens to be a popular item, cool. If not, also cool, as I know what I like. I'm buying handbags, shoes, accessories and clothing for me to enjoy, no other reason.
First, your kindness shines through in your commitment to maintaining a positive and uplifting atmosphere on your channel. It's refreshing to see content creators like you prioritize spreading positivity and encouragement. Keep up the great work! I see both sides of this conversation. I absolutely DO think that for SOME people, luxury goods can perpetuate status-seeking behaviors. This isn’t isolated to handbags. For example, many men buy expensive luxury custom suits to project an image of success and authority, leveraging the perception that well-tailored attire reflects professionalism and competence. Investing in custom suits can signal attention to detail and convey confidence, potentially enhancing social and professional standing in competitive environments. This type of thing can manifest in all sorts of luxury goods. Certainly this is NOT the case for everyone. It also does NOT necessarily elevate to toxic consumerism. Though, I can also see how setting up a closet like a store, like hers, can also contribute to a cycle of buying to maintain a curated appearance. I can also see how it could become overwhelming…. Although, I would love a closet like that myself. 😂 Either way, I support her ability to speak her mind. I had never heard of her before this controversy, and I probably won’t follow her because her content isn’t necessarily what I like. But I don’t feel compelled to tear her down on the points that we disagree on. ☺️
Thank you, Steph! This was a tricky video to react to- and I wanted to make sure I kept it respectful and a safe space, I really appreciate you saying that that came through in the video! You made some really good points about the behaviors behind purchasing luxury good for some. And they're all valid! I'm also jealous of her closet! My teeny tiny closet with ikea shelves doesn't do my collection justice, lol!! And I agree, I fully support her in using her platform to speak her mind, and even though I don't necessarily agree with some of the points- I don't want to tear her down at all. Thanks for watching, Steph!
Hi Caleb! New sub here. I’ve been following Niki for years. When she got pregnant and every video was about her pregnancy, I unsubscribed, because as a child free woman, it did not appeal to me. I saw all of the reaction videos pop up in my feed and watched them. I thought most of them were catty. I thought yours was well done-looking at both sides. You handled it with class.
I call BS oh her part. She clearly felt better than everyone by owning every single "it bag" one can aspire to own... Now she feels SO MUCH better than everybody because she doesn't own any of them. She has no style to her, no substance, just tacky. Unlike you, who truly and genuinely enjoy your collection, adding your own style to it without shoving it into someone's face. You're the best Caleb.
I sold all my bags because of the logos. Chanel ruined it for me with thier price inflation. I bought my med classic flaps for 4k, & now people would make comments thinking I purchased a 10k bag. Tired of explaining it's embarrassing. Also living in Vegas, the main reason was afraid of getting robbed.
Caleb Hi! I kind of “get it”. I think some people get so obsessed with the next bag, after a while they are all meaningless. She may have been in that head space and she just decided to dump it all. I am like you. I have never bought any luxury bag except for the fact that I love it.
So, the one thing I didn’t quite understand was when she talked about being on this journey and then asking people to join her. If this is her personal journey, then why is she asking and or encouraging others to join her? I would think that most people don’t need to be encouraged to take this type of a journey. It’s a very personal decision I can make for myself.
Caleb I am loving your content. Niki and similar influencers are on "trend" these days. The luxury market and the mystique is drying up. Most of us are nowhere in their stratosphere of shoes, handbags, luxury gifts, commercials, overconsumed designer stuff, getting "flewed out" for promotions, etc. Basically, it was their job to influence us on what is luxury. As these influences age, change life direction with kids/family, lose their benefactors, just grow old, decide there's more to life than shopping; the rest of us got hit hard with the economic downturn and shopping addiction around the "cv" word. I'm glad these influencers are changing direction. It shows growth. I agree that your children/grandchildren might not hold the same value on these bags. Who wants a stodgy classic jumbo Chanel flap, B/K unless it turns fashionable again.
I feel like it’s her journey and appreciate your kind thoughts and words. I sold a lot of the items in my closet quite awhile ago I did not find suiting my style and needs and now have a smaller collection but kept two with logos that I use and love and didn’t buy them for anyone but me and have bought things I truly love and use now! Thank you for keeping this community positive ❤
I sold 8 pieces of vintage LV luggage (including a hatbox) to pay the rent for a few months. I still have my Sac Athletisme and one Cruiser. I'm now disabled (ALS) and hadn't traveled since 2010, it was all sitting in a closet.
It sounds like you had a fabulous luggage collection! It must have been tough parting with them, though, given the memories they hold. Sending you warmth and support as you navigate through the challenges of living with ALS.
Idk why she made this video tbh. If she feels the need to get rid of her entire collection, for whatever reason, she should do that. I've felt overwhelmed at times too, and sold or even given away bags. But I wonder why she felt the need to tell us. On Connor's video, I commented about the irony of making a video like this while sitting in a custom closet, in (what I assume is) a mansion, while random plebians in the background pick up her bags and shoes off the floor. I can't take it seriously. She also makes some very broad generalizations. I buy bags because I love them. Not because I think they make me look rich. Or because I want to keep up with other people. I live in Wisconsin. If I wanted to impress people I'd buy a $70k pickup truck, not a handbag. Sounds like she bought into the influencer lifestyle. Or maybe she has people around her whom she feels like she has to keep up with. Either way, do you, but don't put that on the rest of us.
I never bought any thing in my life thinking of selling. I find this type of mentality very scary. People should buy things because they truly like and will wear. I see all products this way and luxury is not exception. I don't think it's healthy for things to gain value over time. I have nothing against selling second-hand things, but at least they should be sold at half price or at fair prices, as I don't think it's fair for something that has already been used to be worth more than its purchase price as new. I think it's really absurd. I wear all my Louis Vuittons and I never plan on selling them. They are part of my journey, they symbolize my passion for quality and they enhance any look I wear! I don´t care at all about the status, I don´t care if I look poor or rich wearing this things, I don´t care if people like it or not. I truly love the bags the same way I truly love some cheap inexpensive stuff!
Totally agree with you. I listened to my husband, and I took a bunch of luxury items to a consignment store in NYC, they closed the store, and stole everything. I buy because I like it; regardless of trends and or other's opinions.
I hadn’t thought of the possible reasoning behind this video till our live. I’m curious to see what is next for her and how she presents that. Great video 🥰
And she needs to stop generalizing her own insecure reasons for buying bags onto everybody else. Speak for yourself girl! YOU purchased these items for the wrong reason. Doesn’t mean we all do.
@Breonaleonard What are the right reasons to purchase 100 bags? Or to spend £11k on a bag? Is it marketing, or is it a lack of self-esteem and gullibility . I know that you will argue you are immune to marketing ... but really you are not.
She makes some real, good points, about overconsumption, and some points that I definitely don’t resonate with…Overall I hope her journey is a reflection of self growth and self love though, doesn’t seem fake to me. But love to see her vulnerability to completely switch up her lifestyle and content considering all the backlash she knew she’d probably get, love your take on this video Caleb!! More Dooney videos please 😅
I highly agree there is a lot going on “under the waters” as you said. This video makes me immediately go to the fact that she must be going through marriage issues. Call me jaded but I feel this is a conversation she must be having with her spouse. That she completely went into her purchase for all the wrong reasons in the first place. Yeppers I believe there is an ulterior motive in this video. I haven’t watched it in full just reaction videos. I am extremely Leary of large channels it’s hard to gauge sincerity. TFS 🛍️👛🚢🙏🦆
Yeah I’ll admit I’ve spent more than I’d like to admit on bags. But none of them are to impress or compete with anyone else. I guess I don’t take it that seriously. I just buy them because I like them. That’s it.
I am not a luxury bag collector and I just started collecting bags very recently, so I don't have heaps of them. I am not against purging closets and unhauling things and being more mindful of consumerism. However, I had to click off Niki Sky's video 5 mins in because it felt so off-putting and ingenuine.
I always say to each their own! I agree with you that I think she bought all those things for the wrong reasons. I have a few luxury bags, but most are contemporary and I love them. Again like you, I buy what I like and don't care about status or what anyone thinks about it. I do question her motivation and what's really behind this drastic change but we will probably never know!
I have loved handbags since i was a teenager. I just love the personality a good handbag gives. No one around me even likes purses like i do to compete. 😂😂😂 So its definitely not for them.
Speak about the algorithm! lol! She makes some good points; especially about the investment part and buy it because it brings you joy. But a lot of her points maybe apply to her (like the status symbol etc) but not for us all. I appreciate her points at face level; if that makes sense. Great reaction video, Caleb!
I also found her through the same youtube video suggestion and did like the message, UNTIL… I saw her most recent video, about “the true reason I got rid of everything I own”. There, she shared what’s left in her closet today. And it still contains many bags, designer shoes and clothes, just it is not as overloaded as it was before. Nice, currated closet. Still, it is FULL while she both puts a header saying she got rid of everything she owns and highlights it several times while talking next ti lux items in a lux closet in a lux home. There, she also mentions having been homeless once in life, homeless in her view meaning living at grandparents home…
This influencer was not somebody I followed and not really sure how or why her story showed up in my FYP, but it was interesting because I, too, had just reached a moment in my life where I felt the need to simplify the things around me. The easiest thing to control is those material things in your surroundings that are not really being put to use because it provides an instant sense of gratification to see the space come back where it was once occupied by something. The reason why I have gotten here, personally, was due to a series of family deaths, including my dearest father that has greatly impacted my sense of self. I’m questioning everything that once made me happy and took up my time. More importantly, speaking, took my time away from others in my life. I don’t know if sudden epiphanies from these TH-camrs is valid or just a marketing ploy but I think it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, these are still just people going through their life journeys and should be allowed to pivot and change their minds and it should have no reflection on ourselves who are watching. I think a lot of people are triggered by this right now because the truth of the matter is, and something that a lot of us don’t want to admit, is that we have somehow been influenced by others to try to live those perfect Instagram lives, and these things that we think will make us happy. We think we’ve been duped and don’t like that feeling and I get that. But I also think it’s fine to recognize when something does not work for you and you step away from it. I think people just need to, continue to live their lives according to whatever makes them happy and just let others do what they need to do. Yes, her closet looked lovely, but if all it inspired, when she walked in there was anxiety, then maybe those shelves should be lined with books or pictures or something different. I think people will be just fine, we all just need to relax.
I found you so you tube dose show us new options ❤.. I follow Niki for a long time, I’m just waiting for her to start her own brand in the next video 😂😛😝I would be surprised
Really agree with the points you made about why she bought the bags in the first place. It seems like her reasoning for buying most of these bags was based on status and what other people thought. Given this, I can understand how she got to this place. I didn't appreciate the "preachy" vibe of the video and the assumption that other people buy bags for the same reasons she did.
Those reasons she mentioned why she’s giving up her luxury items, are the reasons that is affecting her personal well being. As of now that doesn’t apply to me. Although I love luxury bags that don’t have a big logos and logo prints in them, I love it because of their qualities and how well made the majority of them. I agreed with you that she might have a different reasons and purposes why she bought her luxury items that is now affecting her. Thanks for the video. I hope she can find what she’s looking for…
Excellent video, Caleb. I had never heard of her before this. I have the feeling she made purchases for the wrong reasons and is now realizing this. Your perspective is always very well balanced and appreciated. Baby Caleb: "When I was that age I cared, I knew I was wearing Osh Kosh. It's a vibe." 😘😂♥ Safe Space. ♥
I find her obnoxious. I would never judge anyone for purging their wardrobes but she is radically overstating. I buy my bags for the same reason you do - because I like them. It does sound as if she bought her bags for status or maybe for views. The only fairly accurate statement she seems to have made is about investment. She is not wrong about status symbols for many but no way would that ever be true of me. I know that I am short, overweight, not wealthy, late middle age and as plain as a cabbage. I am waffling on so I will sign off! Thank you for the video. I do not feel tempted to follow her! And she should have had enough bag-brains/experience to know that a Birkin would not be a good piece for a parent of young children. Thank you for the video!
Happy to see this I went through my own journey of becoming less materialistic and getting rid of all of my designer goods. Happy I’m not a mindless consumer anymore and good for her for spreading this message no matter how many of these zombies try to find flaws in what she is doing. Projecting much ? ❤
It may be my favorite upload of yours. So, it was very well done, reacting thoughtfully and in detail. Life is and should be evolution. I don’t have an issue with her video and choices. I welcome anyone who is upfront with how they want to prioritize their life. Just remember, if you are having a visceral reaction to anything, that is YOUR stuff, not the person you are watching. I happen to be in a period where I am ridding of items I bought with a different mindset, but instead, I am repurchasing with absolute joy and happiness. Sometimes, that is a “luxury” item; sometimes, it is as simple as going to the Target dollar section.
Great video! I think this "disinterest" in luxury is also a trend. In the same way it was a trend for these SAME people to buy luxury in the first place. A lot of people do it to feel worthy or valuable. As oppose to TRULY having an interest or passion for fashion. If these are your reasons then yes you won't be satisfied. Insecurity is an internal issue. Materials won't fix that. Hence why these people still feel less whole after attaining these items. As for me, I'm buying my first very special ( exotic or blue Jean ) birkin soon I only purchase things that I am absolutely in love with🥰
I think we live in very critic and scary times. People should avoid being rid of luxury things that they love so much in the past and now, and don´t fall into fashions shifts and trends because more later, this logo bags will be trending again. And let´s be honest: Louis Vuitton monogram, Chanel logo in classic flaps or Gucci GG are true classics and will be always on trend! Even if "quiet luxury" or some stupid discreet and intemporal trend (that always existed but people need to pull out new names), this type of logos and bags will resist passage of time! I fear for all the people that will fall into this "false discoveries", or "new journeys" because this is the same shit of minimalism years ago. People will regret sooner of later and wish that the things that they threw away come back again! Sorry, I think this is bullshit...
I think it’s very normal to go through change. I use to LOVE makeup. I saved up for it, I made a vanity with a huge lighted mirror, I watched tons of videos on it. Loved it!! Now I couldn’t care less. That vanity is almost empty and I buy the makeup I need but not really any extra. I also don’t watch anything about makeup or keep up with the trends. I think she is just going through a change and because her channel was about luxury for so long she had to explain why it won’t be about luxury anymore.
You have handled this in a very fair way. I think we have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Kids change you. The pandemic changed us. For me, retirement changed me and gave me an almost frantic need to get rid of most things and have a very manageable home, kitchen and closet. The economy is surely changing us. In reality it doesn’t matter if the motive is genuine or not…it’s a moment in time and each person does what they feel is necessary. I tend to believe everyone going on this downsizing “pilgrimage” is genuine in their intentions because I personally have such a visceral need to declutter. Sometimes it just hits you that stuff doesn’t matter that much. 🤷🏼♀️. It’s liberating to not have to organize and store so many things. It’s also nice to see the money saved
I’ve sold bags but I buy what I like for me, not for what people think or if it’s the it bag. I know a lot of people don’t like LV but I do and that’s what I buy. I don’t really agree but I respect her opinion and she should do what is best for her.
I feel so bad- I know so many Melissa's on this platform, and I butchered Melinda's name 🤦♂️ I agree- I didn't agree with everything in Niki's video, but there's no need to bash.
Im a bit suspicious. Here's my opinion, she is deeply in debt, need to sell off her inventory to pay those debts and to save face she's now toting a new journey in her lifestyle. If someone truly is changing they don't need TH-cam to validate their quest. Reality kicked her in the behind, that's what this is all about.
I don’t necessarily know that there’s an angle to her video, but I definitely feel like she might have bought some of her pieces for the wrong reasons, and/or she’s accumulated so much debt and is panic selling to help clear it.
I got into watches ten years ago, I went through a few Rolex, Omega, Tudor and a few other mid tier brands. I am not a collector. I don't collect anything. It's just my personality. I currently have two Omega's and one Rolex. I will probably never buy another watch again. I look, but just don't feel the need, desire to buy. I also love guns. Same thing, I have a few and just don't buy, won't buy more. But I do relate to that collecting craziness. When I get into something I overdose and then back off. Some people don't. I get it.
Im not her fan. But, I give her my respect for being on a journey that I think is beautiful. True or just a gimmick, it does not matter so much as the message and the lessons it sends to her audience. Still giving her my salute for that. 🥂
.. my opinion about her video is: she speak about her experience pure from A INFLUENCER SIDE..filling the void / competing with each other etcetera.. so i think she was tired of that on youtube.. seeing other luxe youtubers maybe buying more or more often than her, maybe buying better more expensive things as her and maybe that made her tired and now she selling everything..no outsider (no not influencer will ever say/do this ) iam sure she was buying for the wrong reason/ to compete and got tired of it.. to me what she is doing is very extreme... and maybe she needs money or has mental issues thats why she is selling everything. ah ja to me, it doesn't really make any sense .. bc she still walking around with VC jewellery and keeps some luxe bags but without a logo.. but that still is luxury and people will recognise the model of the luxury brand bag.. also what she will buy now.? zara .? .. i just dont get it.. LOL
I am happy with myself that I find things that have no popularity, to the point it’s almost annoying because there are no TH-cam videos on them. For example, I love the Rose Des Vents mini in orange lizard. I also find inspiration in luxury jewelry but go to my local jeweler and design things I have created in my mind.
Maybe it’s my cynicism, but this feels disingenuous to me. If she wants to sell her bags, go for it, but why the video? What’s her goal? To “convert” others? Why the fanfare? And make no mistake, this is fanfare. She contradicts herself by wearing labels while preaching about labels while in a multimillion dollar home. I’m not buying what she’s selling. I enjoyed watching Caleb, thanks 🥰
I think she is genuinely going through a transformation and I think it has everything to do with being a mother of small children. I had no issues with the video except spotting her Alhambra and Love bracelet as she's waving her hands through the air about luxury lies. I never watched her prior to this video and felt no need to subscribe as I am happy and loving all my Birkins ahahahahahah Selling? Neverrrrrrrr.
Thanks for presenting this. Loved hearing your opinions. I just like certain bags, and I’ll wear them with a hoodie and jeans. The bags are just for me, especially since I live in a small town where many people don’t know or care. ☺️
I went through something like this but with clothes. But then again I do that every few years or so. But that’s different because my style changes so I guess it doesn’t compare? I don’t know .
I think at some point all of us takes some steps to try something different and we get to a point where it becomes preachy. I feel like she was a little preachy. For example, I have had friends try out a new diet like veganism and they have become preachy to everyone about their decisions and how everyone is doing it wrong and their way is right. After awhile, if someone has done something for awhile they become less preachy or they go back to their old way of doing things. I in the past have tried minimalism and it didn't last long but I was also preachy about how its bad for the enivronment, consummerism, etc. To anyone who listened. I also wanted to add that thing about passing things down doesn't mean the other person wants it. I tried to give my teenage niece an expensive handbag and she told me its not her style and didn't want it. Buy things because you enjoy them and will use them.
In total agreement with everything you said. Summed up my thoughts as well. Sounds like she got items for the wrong reasons. She’s on a journey and I didn’t receive the negative reactions others had.
Jesus it just screamed religious awakening, non materialist type of awakening. She most definitely bought them for all the wrong reasons. Why would i get rid of my bags and clothes? Im not privileged like she is
You are super nice. Her video is full of contradicting factors. She has a huge closet, huge house and staff- that is also luxury. Luxury jewelry while preaching of shackles and then in the middle of the video a jewelry ad. Come on. 😅 If she’s bored, she should just say so. Way more respectful
I get her. Having to come time after time consuming luxury and talk about it is so boring. You can keep some beautiful pieces but you don’t need to buy and buy what’s on trend. It never stops consuming! She says a lot of common sense.
Caleb: You have a very open minded and balanced approach to this issue. I had no idea who she was until I saw my favorite TH-camrs reacting. Dayle from Dayles Addiction also had a very intelligent reaction. Some other's reacted to Niki's video as a personal attack. I personally feel Niki bought her items for all the wrong reasons.
I've seen Nikki become a wife and mother. I see NOTHING wrong with this. She'll probably change many more times like some do. Wish you had watched from the beginning. I'm one of her supporters.😊❤ She has always sold items before buying new and donated.
If it makes her happy 'go for it girl'! I think I'm old enough to be totally in touch with my feelings and I've never given a sh*t what other people think. I buy what I like, I sell what I don't, simple...
I’m satisfied I’m just factory standards at Everlane and H&M on Michael Kors regular end on Nicole Kwon and Demerara as local brands. Nothing that major! Or mass produced except H&M.
Is her journey, do what's making you happy , eventhough you have to be scam by luxury brands, you have to beg for being steal by superover expensive products is up to each one.
Hi Caleb! I saw her video before your reaction but after the negative video reactions from other youtubers. I love luxury, but I don't own any. I own high end but not luxury brands. And, I didn't feel offended!! So I guess people that ARE offended actually see her video as an attack on them. But it shouldn't be seen like that. Like, You do you, I'll do me...and Yay! Anyway, good for her. I'm just sad I missed the selling... I could've gotten something for me 😂
Thank you, Kim! I really appreciate your kind words. I think TH-cam should be a safe space- we don't all have to agree, but we should be respectful of each other. And you're right- some of the video reactions I watched definitely failed at being respectful.
I didn't watch Niki's video before watching your response, Caleb. I have a very large contemporary handbag collection. I am definitely a collector, and I really enjoy good quality leather bags. Over time, I have given some of my collection to my loved ones, and I have sold one bag. I can honestly say that, at this time, I no longer desire to expand my collection. I'm very happy where it's at! My entire collection cost less than a brand new double flap, classic lambskin Chanel handbag (which now costs C$14,000 in Canada!), but I still spent a lot of money on it, and I plan to enjoy all of my bags for as long as I can. Sometimes I do feel overwhelmed by my collection, but I remind myself that they are here for my pleasure and that's absolutely fine! To me, it doesn't make sense that a collection of curated, luxury products would cause someone to question who they are in society, but to each their own. As you said, Caleb, it's just a bag! It's really not that serious. Buy what you'll enjoy and keep it moving. We're not our accessories. But we shouldn't feel any shame for carrying what we choose to carry. I like your take on her video, Caleb. Always a gentleman in your approach! Much respect! ✌🏾
I don’t know where you’ve been, but I have been following her for years! I do believe she has had an epiphany of some sort and with two children, which she didn’t have when she started, she has realized her priorities and now focus on her family. I say it’s a right of passage at her age.
That's one of my biggest complaints with TH-cam- I never see new people in my recommended or homepage. But I agree- with little kids, a big bag has to be tough to handle.
So what are your thoughts on this topic? Is luxury purging something you’d be able to do?
Caleb is the king 👑 of afternoon smiles 😁 all but two 🦆 left. Silent luxury 😔
Personally I think It just seems like ‘rage baiting’
I’ve done it to regret it, not for her reasons but having to recollect.
I can’t do it. Personally i bought every item i own because i loved it and didn’t think to resell it. I think the people who buy with the intent of reselling may want to purge.
I would do purging of anything that does not serve me luxury or not. And I would keep everything aligned w myself, luxury and non luxury.
Her cadence and editing make it feel like I’m watching a cult indoctrination video lol
I agree. Wholeheartedly.
Oooh that’s what it is
I said the same thing! I’ve been in a cult, and this is the exact same vocabulary etc😅😂
😂
Somewhat, yes
She's trading her 'new money aesthetic' for an 'old money aesthetic' - it's a rebrand, nothing more, nothing less.
Pretty much
Yup - she's moving into "quieter luxury" now. Still luxury - just not loud logos, which is no longer on trend. Her aesthetic has changed as she is moving towards a cleaner, more minimal look and in that realm, Chanel and LV appear dated and a bit lame. That's the real reason. Could have done without the virtue signalling on the way.
I think there's definitely some truth to this!
'Quiet luxury' is already coming to an end... if these people want to put on a show, they should do it properly, good grief!
Boom! It's not that complicated. She looks trashy in her Tony neighborhood.
A few years ago
Niki’s videos were all over my feed, and I watched a couple, and just could not continue.
True! I collect books. Minimal re-sale value but they bring me joy! That is the only thing that matters!
Calling it mindless,& such...Folks PLEASEEEE,....Stop supporting folks like this!@
Just because you bought yourself with that mindset doesn't mean everyone has lady!@
Love what you love, people@
Thank you, Gene!
@@saabguy9774 I absolutely agree. I wish more people followed this logic.
I think it’s their own insecurities about how much they buy so they were on the defensive. A few were beyond tacky. Angelique Eva and Melinda (not Melissa lol) from Luxpurselove were also kind.
I really dont understand why this bothers people like this. We go through seasons of life. And this is one for her!!
Spot on Autumn!!
@@AutumnBeckman Wholeheartedly agree! The convoluted reasoning she came up with for the big fancy house was a joke really!
Wait until the Louis Vuitton Monogram comeback with all the forces again 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (Hi people, I changed my mind!)
This woman filmed this wearing her van cleef. I can’t.😅
exactly I understand she is a different person now, since it took IV and other methods to become a mother.
Coaxed....Coached?
i dont know this “influencer” but reading this comment, i only thought of 1 word to describe her, a hypocrite. im glad i dont know her 😅
you got duped by a hypocrite influencer.
😂 My thoughts exactly. It felt quite weird.
😂😂😂
this is a her problem, she needs to stop using words like 'us', 'we' etc. this is a you problem niki
Amen 🙏
Either way, I support her ability to speak her mind.
That's such a good point!
It’s a very personal decision I can make for myself.
its a good intention, why on earth would it be bad to get rid of what dont serve u?
This is a great point, Dawn! You're absolutely right about it being a very tough and personal journey. I'm curious to see where she goes from here.
She bought them for the wrong reasons, you nail it there. Did she pay full price?
I call BS on her excuse.
Yeah, she definitely purchased them for all the reasons she listed as toxic.
My first thoughts, “Why? You moving into a tiny house?” She said she’s purging and getting rid of everything. Hmmm….
Great point,Wondering if the UHauls on its way,.Load it Up!!😂🤣
Yeah- I'm still curious to know what the ultimate motive is?
It’s a virtue signal
I feel like it’s her journey and appreciate your kind thoughts and words. I sold a lot of the items in my closet quite awhile ago I did not find suiting my style and needs and now have a smaller collection but kept two with logos that I use and love and didn’t buy them for anyone but me and have bought things I truly love and use now! Thank you for keeping this community positive ❤
I’ve lost track of how many times her family has gone to Miami this year. Luxury hotels, beautiful restaurants. Is this all coming to an end as well?
Yeah, I'm wondering what parts of her lifestyle she's changing, or is this just closet specific?
I sold 8 pieces of vintage LV luggage (including a hatbox) to pay the rent for a few months. I still have my Sac Athletisme and one Cruiser. I'm now disabled (ALS) and hadn't traveled since 2010, it was all sitting in a closet.
It sounds like you had a fabulous luggage collection! It must have been tough parting with them, though, given the memories they hold. Sending you warmth and support as you navigate through the challenges of living with ALS.
@@CalebSnell kthx hon, love your content!
@@angygonzalez6814 omg, they stole your items?
I hadn’t thought of the possible reasoning behind this video till our live. I’m curious to see what is next for her and how she presents that. Great video 🥰
I like that you blocked the babies faces out 👍
@@ItsOnlyWarPaint absolutely! Felt appropriate ❤️
I'm curious too!
She sounds insufferable lol sorry! I agree with everything you said Caleb. But you put it nicer than I would have.
Thank you!!
Her video is cringeworthy.
TFS 🛍️👛🚢🙏🦆
That's an interesting point, Dee Dee! I hadn't thought of that. I do think there is more to the story than what we're seeing.
Yeah I’ll admit I’ve spent more than I’d like to admit on bags. But none of them are to impress or compete with anyone else. I guess I don’t take it that seriously. I just buy them because I like them. That’s it.
I'm in the same boat- I buy what I like, and I definitely don't care if they're going to impress someone.
Hahaha! Same here!!
I think people will be just fine, we all just need to relax.
she probably put her items in a storage or her garage
oooh! I hadn't thought of that!
I found you so you tube dose show us new options ❤..
I follow Niki for a long time, I’m just waiting for her to start her own brand in the next video 😂😛😝I would be surprised
That's good to know! I'm glad you found me!
I don't follow her. But I watched this and was convinced she joined a cult. 😏🥴🤷♀️
LMAO! same. Her whole tone was giving me an MLM-hun vibe.
Nooo! haha! Not the cult!
"Not to name names" then goes on to name names. Caleb, you are a vibe!
Hahaha! I couldn't help myself!! 😆
These are all great points, Melissa!
Well done! I’m not sure if I believe everything she says but there’s no reason to bash. I loved Melinda’s (not Melissa’s) video too.
Oh! I hadn't thought of that angle, but I could definitely see a TH-camr doing something like that when the debts catch up with them.
@@CalebSnell What does her husband do?
I get it.
I purge cause I need cash! 🤣🤣🤣
Same! haha!
Omg, she's preachy as hell. She says I hope you will join me in this. I call BS
LOL
😂😂😂I also knew I was wearing oshkoshbgosh 😅😅 we are both totally born with the same “problem”
Hahahah! We definitely were! 😆 🤣 😂
she once said in another video that you can only be classy and elegant if you wear beige. i blocked her😂
Oh gosh- not beige! haha! 😆
She will come out with her own quiet luxury brand soon😂
That's kind of what I'm thinking too.
Maybe her bracelets were gifts from her mom or someone else. You don’t get rid of the things you love and that have great meaning.
That speech was very well scripted for sure 🙄 my head hurt of the amount of times I rolled my eyes while watching it
Thanks for presenting this. Loved hearing your opinions. I just like certain bags, and I’ll wear them with a hoodie and jeans. The bags are just for me, especially since I live in a small town where many people don’t know or care. ☺️
Thank you! And I agree- even though I live in Chicagoland, many people in the area don't really care about what bag someone's wearing.
I went through something like this but with clothes. But then again I do that every few years or so. But that’s different because my style changes so I guess it doesn’t compare? I don’t know .
Me too! I am literally donating large amounts of clothes now both new and used.
That's a good point!
Thank you, Steph! I agree, she bought them for the wrong reasons, but it's good she recognized that and decided to make a change.
Obviously logos have always been obnoxious. I remember them in the 90s . Just ridiculous.
Jesus it just screamed religious awakening, non materialist type of awakening. She most definitely bought them for all the wrong reasons. Why would i get rid of my bags and clothes? Im not privileged like she is
“When I was that age, I cared” 😂😂
Haha! It's true! 😆
So she says, its going to charity. Rriiiight
You are super nice. Her video is full of contradicting factors. She has a huge closet, huge house and staff- that is also luxury.
Luxury jewelry while preaching of shackles and then in the middle of the video a jewelry ad. Come on. 😅
If she’s bored, she should just say so. Way more respectful
Thank you, Stacy! I agree- there were mixed messages, and a lot said without really saying anything. It was interesting!
I get her. Having to come time after time consuming luxury and talk about it is so boring. You can keep some beautiful pieces but you don’t need to buy and buy what’s on trend. It never stops consuming! She says a lot of common sense.
Thank you!
Thank you so much, Barb! I really appreciate your kind words. I agree, I think these things were purchased for the wrong reasons.
I've seen Nikki become a wife and mother. I see NOTHING wrong with this. She'll probably change many more times like some do. Wish you had watched from the beginning. I'm one of her supporters.😊❤ She has always sold items before buying new and donated.
Great video.. I just can't fathom getting rid of every bag❤
Right!? Me either!
I don’t believe at all she got rid of her handbags. There in her closet lol 😂
Ooooh! Hot take! haha!
Hi Caleb! I thought this reaction video was tastefully done! I can’t wait to see what’s next for Niki.
Thank you, Jamie!! I was nervous for this one to go out! I'm also curious to see what's next!
I would not be surprised if her entire luxury collection is in storage until she has a new epiphany.
😂😂😂😂💯
If it makes her happy 'go for it girl'! I think I'm old enough to be totally in touch with my feelings and I've never given a sh*t what other people think. I buy what I like, I sell what I don't, simple...
Exactly! Good point, Kaz!
Oshkosh B'gosh😂 thanks for waking me up from her mlm speaking trance she was putting me in
Hahaha! You're welcome!
So glad I found your channel and really impressed that you acknowledge all of the comments! Subscribed ❤
Thank you, Alida! I always want the viewers to know that their input is valid and appreciated! Thank you for subscribing!
The shade in this video is pure gold 😂
😆 I hope I wasn't too shady!
I could've gotten something for me 😂
I loved Niki’s video. And I love your video. I have came across some TH-camrs that trash and bullied Niki for her video. So thank you ❤️
Thank you, Kim!
She's setting the stage for something else. For sure. I found it a bit overdone and cloying with the sentiments.
It's a pivot.
I think you're right about that.
@@CalebSnell She's starting a cliché-collectors vlog.
