    What a beautiful car. New petrol 3 series are almost 50 000 euro in Europe lol.
    This is why competition is so important. China is making such good cars that Euro makers are now stressed and want to lower prices to remain competitive.

      We europeans will have to pay for the discounts given in China, and when China wants to offer us a cheap EV, the union kicks in and puts tariffs over these cars, anyhow where screwed whatever we do. Only thing left is to boycot these unfair practices, i’ll be keeping my old car thats for sure.

    The whole EV car in China costs less as what my local Audi dealer here in Germany asked for repairing my Audi e-tron. they said I had to pay €26k to replace the front motor (damaged) and two destroyed battery modules. By fault of the EV control box during heavy raining. No battery guarantee, no other warranty. ridicolous. that and how Audi handles the burning cars (same as Porsche Taycan) and problems with the LG battery packs (recall, worldwide) with limited state of charge to 80% in terms of safety, will crush the whole VAG EV dreams.

      it doesn't quite work that way, if a German buys a Chinese electric car for 30k eur (price after various taxes + delivery to the EU) he will just send 25/26k to China, 4-5k is left for some taxes or seller fee
      But if he buys a German car for 30k eur then:
      China will probably earn 5-7k on various required components (batteries etc. which are worth importing from China)
      The rest will be manufactured in the EU, such as sheet metal, other electronics, software, this is another 5-7k
      Now they assemble this car German machines + German workers, who for each car probably get around 1/2k eur
      Of course for transport around the EU again the EU will get the money, not China, here for one car it will probably also be around 2-3k eur (importing parts, and shipping cars to the world/EU)
      Taxes also come in along the way (again Germany/EU), adding up all what you will have to pay for one car is probably around 5k eur, then there is still a seller fee of around 1/2k eur (again it stays in Germany/EU) and the remaining profit for the German company for further development is the remaining profit of 4-6k from selling the car
      I probably skipped many stages, but during them the EU will earn and benefit from it, not China
      Of course if the car is more expensive, these numbers will be higher, more money will stay in the EU/Germany, money that will be taxed many times along the way, will support many businesses, many companies, and the taxes themselves will allow for the construction of things for public use, so no, it is not better for consumers

    Thanks for the interesting topic and well-explained apples-to-apples comparison. I agree that this isn't likely to occur in any other country, but it should.
    Oddly, I'm pleased that the legacy brands have been caught "Flat-footed" and must employ tactics such as protectionism to slow the inevitable. It's well documented how, in the early 90's, the U.S. allowed Chevrolet to actively delay the onset of EVs to bolster its profit from ICE vehicles. Like America's big three automotive manufacturers, European brands were happy to keep polluting the environment to maintain their hold on the market. China has proven along many industry fronts that competition, not protectionism, is the key to achieving innovation competencies and dominance. Though it pains me to say it, the nascent shift amongst economies is a necessary wake-up call for the countries engaging in protectionism, whether by the term overcapacity, national security, or the claim of unfair subsidies.

    I fear for the whole automotive industry. Solely because of Tesla and Chinese brands start to "revolutionize" the design of exterior and interior, it isn't the practical way of doing so. Everyone want's to have that fresh looks only to find out that it is just inpractical. The "pre-pandamic" design of the 3 series (here we already see the lack of different buttons compared to the pre LCI G20 generation BMW) is very well thought out. Not everyone wants to use a giant touchscreen in the middle of the center console though it looks more modern. Unfortunately function follows form (and the production cost cuts) these days, so in a couple of years, every car will look more or less the same...

      @Supraifyification 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Tbf the screen in the lci g20 is pretty damn good. Had one as a loaner for about a month and loved the infotainment(its very fast and good quality unlike a vw or some laggy shit) and personally don't mind not having physical controls for the climate controls. its easy to access and i don't change temperature on it very often anyways. also prefer the smaller gear selector. Only thing i don't like is that it looks a bit out of place - you can tell it wasn't designed originally to be a big screen (on pre lci) so it just stands on like a stander and that looks super cheap.

    My humble opinion: these are not cars, these are appliances. It is normal for the Chinese (who have excelled at electronics and new technologies in the last 30 years or so) to put together some computers and screens on wheels and be able to sell them at low prices. Whereas European manufacturers like BMW for example who have been building real cars for decades and they did it from passion (and excelled at ICE and driving performance) are not as good at producing appliances in such a short period of time.

    But the ADAS are actually top nodge in BMW, maybe they are not offered in China right now. But look to the US and Europe, where BMW offers the highest autonomy class on the market right now. Look Porsche 911 2024 interior, screen is integrated as it should be and buttons which you can operate and feel directly (not voice or searching on screen) are worth a gold.
