This song means so much to me. I played it for my great grandma while she was passing to calm her. It was one of the hardest things i’ve ever done. The last thing she said to me was “beautiful music”. I’ll never forget that and every time I hear this song I get emotional. Love you Mamo R.I.P. Thank you all for your kind words. It has been hard without her but I have all of you to thank for helping me get through this. All of your comments mean so much to me and I am truly grateful for all of the thoughtful things you all have said. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like a beautiful, bittersweet moment to have; and you chose the right song. We all have, or will have these special personal moments in our lives tied to certain pieces...that's the power of great music. :)
Listening to special music transcends our mortal fears. I sing to my dad now and then. Though now maybe he is in another life. Prayers open like orange lights and guide them in the dark valley. Your granma felt her soul for special music does that and that will preserve her conciousness and keep her senses tuned to the bigger world.
What a beautiful thing to do for her. I’m so so sorry for your loss but what a beautiful send off♥️ I hope you still feel her love surrounding you in a warm hug. Sending you much love xx♥️🙏
I've known this song since l was 16. I'm now 63 and a retired pro guitarist. I've never seen this version before. I'm in tears. Plant and page are mesmerising as is the backing ensemble. I'm watching it for the third time now. They'll never be another band like Zeppelin.

No not really. I was a dyed in the wool Led Zepplin fan while everyone else was listening to motown and soul. Then, soon after came *gag* disco. (sorry, I puked in my mouth). The rockers listened to Iron Maiden, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Jimi. The Led Zepplin songs that got air time was The Crunge, Whole Lotta Love, and Black Dog. Stairway to Heaven of course. Whenever I feel too stressed out from shit in life, too worried, or unhappy, I sit down and watch this video. It always makes all the troubles... not go away, but lose the importance that my brain gives them. This song is absolutely magical, and in combination with the musician's focused and calm faces it creates such a calming mix
It's so humbling an experience to watch Jimmy play those riffs almost effortlessly, and in the end, showing his guitar to everyone in great exultation, as though saying that it is the guitar that did the job, and he is only the medium, and what is true is the opposite of it. Amazing, amazing genius!
I had my first baby last week, and on her 3rd night home i played this to her off my phone. I was so emotionally into her beautiful face that i wanted to cry but held it in. At some point i saw her smile at me for the first time and i broke out in tears. I have never in my life felt such a love so immense and beautiful like i did in that moment. Now I’m learning to play it for her on my acoustic. Thank you Led Zeppelin for that, the greatest moment of my life so far🤍
Enjoy it , time goes by so fast .. I played this for my babe , he just turned 40 on the 9th of June 2021. . This was also one of my childhood favorites in the 70’s
Such an amazing song. I know that everyone gets a hard on over stairway to heaven (and yes; it’s a great song) but The Rain Song is without question the greatest musical achievement of Led Zeppelin, this song; more than anything else I have ever listened to, is a fundamental emotional touch stone for me. Beautiful; eldritch, transcendent. People will be playing this a thousand years from now (assuming we make it that far)
I couldn't AGREE wit ya more......this tune has a special place.......Stairway aint nothin compared to this BEAUTIFUL piece of music.!!! I cry EVERYTIME!!!!!
This song came on the radio while I was driving with my daughter. She was preparing to leave for college and we spoke of many things that day. I was missing her already and it hurt so badly that I could barely breathe. The music and lyrics were like a balm for my soul. When I hear this song, it reminds me of that beautiful fall day, the bluest of skies, the open road and my love for her.
Robert's nod at the end says 'nailed it', and they certainly did. Great tracks like this, No Quarter and Stairway set them apart from all the rest, and no-one has come close since.
+minitom74 let's all pump the brakes on the 'music these days....' rant, i grew up with lz (born 1965) and my parents said the same stuff about lz, so comments like these just make the commenter look like they are too old, lazy, disinterested to immerse themselves in music that is being made now. some of my parents' music moves my soul, led zeppelin moves my soul and sometimes today's music does the same, you just need to be willing to listen. I DO miss that we seem to move way too fast these days. I don't have the time to queue up music I have never heard, sit quietly and really listen to music like I did when I was a kid. I hope there are some people that still do. It's time well spent.
I do listen to the music of today. That's why I'm able to make a comparison to it. What I think that makes music special in my eyes is starting to disappear. In the last 50 years the les Paul guitar hasn't changed a lot. There's a reason for it. It didn't need to. We've entered a digital age where change is inevitable and for that I will always be analog through and through.

My dad took me to Toronto to see this tour. We sat behind a drunk guy who wouldn’t sit down in front of us and a group of bikers who wouldn’t stand up behind us. My dad asked the guy to sit down and he took a swing. Before dad could punch back the bikers behind us jumped over both of us and clobbered the guy. Strangest concert memory of my life. Miss my dad terribly. Every time I hear this music I think of him and have a laugh.
That's Jimmy Page everyone.A true master at his craft,& a guitar God in his own right.Upon us all,a little rain must fall. BEAUTIFUL & AMAZING I cannot ever listen to this without precious memories of my youth pouring into my head. THIS IS MUSIC
+Jim Bo I noticed that too. Kind of a "Right on" nod, very cool. If you'd like to enjoy another little moment like that, check out Ginger Baker's little "eye raise" to Clapton after "White Room" on the live at Albert Hall Cream reunion show.
Plant did an AWESOME job but did not hit the notes as he did before while singing this song...showed great control here~ Plant nods to Jimmy because Plant knew that Jimmy got finer with age with respect to this song and his AWESOME performance...just my guess~ An excellent performance by everyone involved!
After all their years together as a major band they can revisit an old tune and bring it back to life if only for a brief moment the music has a life of it’s own we get to relive it over and over again ✌️🤘
There will never be another band like this. Ever. Not even close. And this drummer RIP, best one since Bonzo. His son is good, but this drummer was ridiculously amazing.
I was a single dad, bought my son a guitar , he was eleven. He's a musician and I sent him to the plant and page concert in Chicago. To this day it's the best concert he's been to.
My favorite LZ single. Nothing better than an Orchestra integrated with Jimmy Page, Robert's voice, it's like going back in time 250 years and asking Beethoven, Bach, Mozart to come back to us and play with the group that defined music in the 70's until today.
tim d Quite familiar with LZ and Jimmy's background. Rock is rock and classical is not rock. But it is okay if others enjoy it that way, just my view. I saw Andres Segovia at Bonfils Theatre Denver 1968, that was classical was it not?
Could we just try to give someone some corrections without being so damn condescending?! We never stop learning so there is no such thing as a stupid question!!!
It’s come to my attention the purpose of this song is to help you cry when you need to. Just a little rain. Then we move on into the summer of my smile. 🌞
When you realise that everything the orchestra does here, JPJ handled all by himself back during the tour days....it hits hard man, really hard. Cheers for the unsung hero 🔥
Yeah, no kidding. John was incredibly talented, maybe the most talented of the four and, considering how the other three are stupidly good, this says a lot.
@@MateusOliveira-hr1wp it is such a shame that JPJ didn't do this tour with the boys. None the less, the music was spectacular with the musicians they used and a full orchestra. I missed a chance to see the tour but a buddy of mine did see them. 26 years later he still talks about it. He is quite the guitar player himself, so you can imagine how much he enjoyed the Plant/ Page tour. We used to get stoned when my friend was learning guitar. I would be at the turntable trying to drop the needle at just the right spot of a LZ album so he could try and learn a Page riff. Good times- old school guitar learning.
My father died the same day John Bonham died…September 25,1980. My Husband’s initials are JP and he was born on Jimmy Page’s birthday, January 9. I was born five days after Robert Plant was born. 8/25/1948 and 8/20/1948 I’ve had dreams about Robert Plant and he was so real. Once I prayed so hard to God that I could have a chance to tell him I loved him, though it seemed impossible it could ever happen. Within a year we had gotten front row seats to the 2000 seating Orpheum theater in Boston. A few things happened during the concert. A guy ran down to the front row. Robert Plant was looking down & never saw him and the guy hopped up on stage and rushed to hug him…immediately someone from off stage grabbed the guy and took him off the other side of the stage without Robert Plant even seeing him. He must have felt him though he looked up directly at me and I said it’s OK and he just went on with the show. After his last encore as he walked off, he looked right at me and grinned. I turned and gestured to the audience and said “we love you” and looked back at him and he was still grinning. It was magical and God had answered my prayer.
7:02 Page tossing the pick away. Something about it is both badass and beautiful. "You've done your work little pick, now let me finish this on my own."
This song has an ethereal quality that resonates deep within my soul. Led Zeppelin was full of musical genius. Jimmy Page plays this song with so much feeling. I love this version. They are to music what Shakespeare was to the written word. Universal This song is always in my heart. I just wish Robert would agree to do one last U.S. tour with Jimmy.
It's not just that Jimmy Page is a master on the guitar. It's that Robert Plant also feels the music and his voice. Together they are just a beautiful pair
Im in the process of learning this song, ive been playing for 40 years and really regret not having learned this particular master piece, I suppose I always just appreciated the beauty of it
Robert Plant is always spot on, a perfect match to Jimmy Page's guitar work. Beautiful song, incredible performance. Love those smiles at the end to one another.
I’m 49. I got turned on to Zeppelin by my best friend Larry when I was 17. He was 15 and got the box set,and we listened all day as we got high and loved this one song in particular. My best and only friend in this big world died March 24,2019. I will always miss him and sometimes have heavy emotions when I hear this love song. R.I.P. my only friend Larry S. I miss you dearly.

Agreed, Jimmy pages flair for meloncholic and mesmerising melodies is impeccable. That augmented line cliché makes me feel a certain way, almost a sense of bliss and hopelessness at the same time. Also the sound of the openess of the open tuning plus the string section reminds me of As tears go by from Rolling Stones/ Marianne Faithfull. Beautiful song

That Robert Plant nod at Jimmy Page at the end is the greatest compliment.
This song is a masterpiece, and this is the best version of it ever recorded. The strings are a wonderful compliment! Jimmy Page is a musical genius.
When Robbery Plant sings, he makes LOVE 2
EVERYTHING HE SINGS.
even as a man I'm just totally in awe of him, seen him 4 times and is just class 👍
Robert's singing is just lovely. He is a true star
Same with me!
I agree as well. The music 🙂
It's so humbling an experience to watch Jimmy play those riffs almost effortlessly, and in the end, showing his guitar to everyone in great exultation, as though saying that it is the guitar that did the job, and he is only the medium, and what is true is the opposite of it. Amazing, amazing genius!
Thank you for this comment! Couldn’t have said it better myself.
The guitar thanks Jimmy
I played this song over and over when my Father passed. It gave me comfort and peace. Miss you Dad 😢
I was never blessed with having a child & always wanted to be a Mom - so happy for you. Thanks for sharing that wonderful moment with your baby✌❤
When it comes to zep it's never to early to start listening
Congratulations!
Always remember this... "The Song Remains The Same"
Such an amazing song.
Totally agree
Agree 100%
Even though I'm a keyboard player I'm learning rain song on my acoustic. One of my favorites ballads.
@@ellenbacklin I've just learnt it on my acoustic too, love that tuning!
This reminds me of my husband. He could play this perfect. He passed away in 2004. We were high school sweet heart's. I miss him every day.
Undoubtedly one of their best songs... and sadly too often this gem is underrated .... it's a musical masterpiece !
It’s better that way. Let them dig to find the hidden gem. They’ll be rewarded for their searching efforts
Jimmy is such a pure musician
Imagine being told by a Beatle that you can't write a ballad and producing a masterpiece out of spite...Jimmy page is a rock god.
Wasn't it not so much that they can't write ballads but that they didn't? Either way this song is perfect to me.
I never respected the Beatles in the same universe as Led Zeppelin. I completely different level of talent and depth in a band.
DEPTH is the KEYWORD here!
Now let's see The Beatles performing Achilles Last Stand
This song came on the radio while I was driving with my daughter. She was preparing to leave for college and we spoke of many things that day. I was missing her already and it hurt so badly that I could barely breathe. The music and lyrics were like a balm for my soul. When I hear this song, it reminds me of that beautiful fall day, the bluest of skies, the open road and my love for her.
Nicely written and kind to share ✌️😊
The way you said that gave me tingling and goose bumps . Thanks.
K. Pope Beautifully written. Lyrical. Robert would love to read your words, of that I have little doubt
K. Pope
I can fully relate. Thanks for the comment.
Omg! My husband passed away in 2004. He could play this song beautiful. I miss him.
Page dropping the pick and playing the last seconds of the song with his fingers LIKE A BOSS. That melody at the end gives me chills every time.
Me to brother!!.....EVERY F'N TIME
Because he IS A BOSS !!
Robert's nod at the end says 'nailed it', and they certainly did. Great tracks like this, No Quarter and Stairway set them apart from all the rest, and no-one has come close since.
Word.
Broonzied Completely Agree!! This was truly GREAT!!! 💓🎸🎤🎶💖
today's music isn't delivered to touch your soul like this...music like this is becoming rare..
nah thats old fart bs...open ur ears and mind tho its probably too late
+Robert Bermudez nah I disagree. It's the young mind that thinks talent is something your born with.
+Liberty AboveAllElse You do realize that Led Zeppelin isn't an American band....right?
In my opinion, this is the greatest song ever written
I’ve come to that conclusion myself a few times as well, nothing like it. It’s like it’s been around since the beginning of time.
Love it
I couldn’t agree more. Brings out so much emotion in me.
Pretty badass,..
Absolutely
I will never be tired of this song.......never........
This is for me the most beautiful song ever written.
Its truly amazing
Jimmy Page is a Beethoven of rock 'n' roll, playing his music at its best on his instrument. Unique in history.
The One And Only Living Legend "Robert Plant And Freaking " Jimmy Funkin Page "And Hey Robert I'd Love To Try Out Ur Back Door And" Hey "Hoe" Hey Ho " Awghhhhh Aghhh Whooooo....Ahoooooo !!!

I love this - thanks for sharing this amazing memory.
That's Jimmy Page everyone.A true master at his craft,& a guitar God in his own right.Upon us all,a little rain must fall. BEAUTIFUL & AMAZING
I cannot ever listen to this without precious memories of my youth pouring into my head.
THIS IS MUSIC
took the words right out of my mouth, a true master at his craft

INDEED
The little nod that Robert gives Jimmy at the very end
+Jim Bo I noticed that too. Kind of a "Right on" nod, very cool. If you'd like to enjoy another little moment like that, check out Ginger Baker's little "eye raise" to Clapton after "White Room" on the live at Albert Hall Cream reunion show.
+Jim Bo Yup. Like, "We're still the best."
Plant did an AWESOME job but did not hit the notes as he did before while singing this song...showed great control here~ Plant nods to Jimmy because Plant knew that Jimmy got finer with age with respect to this song and his AWESOME performance...just my guess~ An excellent performance by everyone involved!
This song has always been one of my favorites by Zeppelin and I still love it 40 years later.
After all their years together as a major band they can revisit an old tune and bring it back to life if only for a brief moment the music has a life of it’s own we get to relive it over and over again ✌️🤘
maybe the the most beautiful song by the most beautiful band ever written ever...... definitely
There will never be another band like this. Ever. Not even close. And this drummer RIP, best one since Bonzo. His son is good, but this drummer was ridiculously amazing.
Right you are! Great drummer for sure!! RIP
I think his name was Michael Lee and I agree...RIP
@@rwv7447 Yes, that was him.
Can't get off this song..simply the best!
over and over and over !!!
right to the sole..............
#musicalexcellence 😎✌🏻️
+Charlie Sochko ...its perfect
I was a single dad, bought my son a guitar , he was eleven. He's a musician and I sent him to the plant and page concert in Chicago. To this day it's the best concert he's been to.
One of the best songs ever written.
The lyrics r amazing
My favorite LZ single. Nothing better than an Orchestra integrated with Jimmy Page, Robert's voice, it's like going back in time 250 years and asking Beethoven, Bach, Mozart to come back to us and play with the group that defined music in the 70's until today.
Nothing better than an Orchestra integrated with Jimmy Page except for chewing aluminum foil and shaving one's head with a cheese grater!
The fuck...
***** ?? uh ?? I assume you are unfamiliar with classical music. Maybe research LZ' influence which was in fact 'Classical Music' !!!
tim d
Quite familiar with LZ and Jimmy's background.
Their smiles at the end are just pure love and joy. That's what I'm talking about!
true smiles
Page is a genius to come up with these melodic chords . Brilliant!
Their smiles at the end. Such a gorgeous song.
Every times I hear the opening notes of this song I'm taken back to my teens in the 70's. I smiled through this whole performance. Just beautiful ❤
Me too...... man the years go fast.
We are the teenagers that got to hear this transcendent music on the radio when we were kids and radiates strong still
Right!
It’s come to my attention the purpose of this song is to help you cry when you need to. Just a little rain. Then we move on into the summer of my smile. 🌞
Amazing i am 73 and still tears come up.... Amazing..
No worries, Mate. I'm 61 and STILL shed tears at good music - this song included - simply beautiful!!
this has to be the greatest underrated song ever
That little nod Robert gives to Jimmy at the end as if to say, "Yes, mate, we still got it."
Being able to see Page/Plant in 95 was a dream come true! I was 5 when Bonham died so I never thought I would get the chance to see these guys live.
My father died the same day John Bonham died…September 25,1980.
My Husband’s initials are JP and he was born on Jimmy Page’s birthday, January 9.
I was born five days after Robert Plant was born. 8/25/1948 and 8/20/1948
I’ve had dreams about Robert Plant and he was so real.
Those back up musicians must have felt like heaven knowing they were with two of the greatest rock musicians of all time
This song is one of the reasons I feel Led Zeppelin is what every band has aspired to become and none have come close. The GOAT.
7:02 Page tossing the pick away. Something about it is both badass and beautiful. "You've done your work little pick, now let me finish this on my own."
This is THE BEST comment
I love it. it is badass. I also love Jimmy's smile at the end and Robert's nod of approval - they must be like brothers.
I play this song every morning before work to get day started on a good note.
You'd think it would get boring.
Very well said.
Kathleen Rush-Hall I feel your comment cause I feel the exact same way + then some!
Kathleen Rush-Hall FUCK SHAKESPEARE!!! THIS IS LED ZEPPELIN THAT'S COMPARED TO NOONE ELSE!!
José Abel Salazar Lizárraga Me too!!
This song speaks to how life is. Upon us all a little rain must fall. ☔️☔️☔️🌧️🌧️🌨️
There are good songs, there are great songs, and then there's The Rain Song...
Well said :)
I love the little nod Robert gives Jimmy right after the last chord rings out.
An era of dedication and respect.
I love that too. He has deep respect for Jimmy.
That was a "We nailed it, son", look.
But they didn't nail it, at least not Plant.
I couldn't care less. They can think whatever they want.
One of the best guitarists in the world right there
It's not just that Jimmy Page is a master on the guitar. It's that Robert Plant also feels the music and his voice. Together they are just a beautiful pair
Im in the process of learning this song, ive been playing for 40 years and really regret not having learned this particular master piece, I suppose I always just appreciated the beauty of it
tune your guitar to DGCGCD
Same as me … I started learning it today… I’m 55 … enjoy! 🤘🏼
I wish you good luck. Please don’t hold yourself up to Jimmy Pages standard. Just beautiful.
Plant and Page were flawless here. Sweet performance !!
Greatest "male duet" ever!!
Robert Plant is always spot on, a perfect match to Jimmy Page's guitar work. Beautiful song, incredible performance. Love those smiles at the end to one another.
This isnt a song... Its a "Piece" ...and its phenomenal
Amazing to listen to on a chilly and rainy Las Vegas afternoon 💜
@@Chicken5516 any day is a great day to listen to led zeppelin !!!!! J.g. Monterey, California..........

Sorry for Your loss I am 61 and this song is haunting and gives Me many memories especially the Seasons of My life with My late Wife . As They go through the Seasons
David Zaghet Also sorry for your loss. Yeah it’s hard to go on when someone you love and shared good times with is just gone, never to be seen again. Weird world we live in.

This is proof that music is the most powerful thing ever created by humans, if you disagree, I will still pray for you….
I don't disagree but God created it first
Absolutely, glory be to god!!!
That's it!!! If this song isn't played at my Funeral,,,, I ain't even going to show up!!

Lol, great line. Such dedication!
one of the best songs ever in music history
The 4:43 minute mark and the ensuing 50 or so seconds thereafter is one of the
best if not the best moments in musical recording history.
it gives me chill each time
Favorite part of my favorite song. EARGASM!!!!!!
Without a doubt, it brings tears to my eyes almost every time I watch the video.
Beautiful, Simply Beautiful... I saw Led Zeppelin in 77 Pontiac Silverdome my father took me I was 14 years old thanks pops I miss you
I was there too 💖
@toppjimi7776 no shit, it is a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it yesterday was the anniversary April 30th 1977
Maybe the most beautiful song ever done by Zeppelin
Agreed, Jimmy pages flair for meloncholic and mesmerising melodies is impeccable. That augmented line cliché makes me feel a certain way, almost a sense of bliss and hopelessness at the same time. Also the sound of the openess of the open tuning plus the string section reminds me of As tears go by from Rolling Stones/ Marianne Faithfull. Beautiful song
Freakin Legend, every single guitar note on this song is Beautiful
We were spoiled with music like this in my day.
E vero ! Spoiled, in the best way.
Nice , was it not ?!
