I've been on this one. The part where there was a bow pointing at you, you felt that the arrow flew next to your head because there was a wind. Same goes with the cannon and the part where the monkey got shot by arrows. Also the part where the bugs flew around, when the lights turned off you felt them flying around and crawling all over you. The wind effect.
This part was great, I was put in a buggy with 2 kids and they both cried after this. Absolutely loved this ride and how immersive and detailed the manor leading up to it is.
If anyone is wondering, this is the Chinese version of the Haunted Mansion. It's only completely different, because Disney was worried that the Chinese would be offended by a ride centered around happy, singing and dancing dead people.
Yes the Chinese treat the dead with great reverence and respect, and the original Haunted Mansion flippant and tongue-in-cheek take on the dearly departed wouldn't go over well in China. I actually think that this version is better - it has brilliant special effects and I love the trackless concept!
SpongeboyMeBob That's a smart move from Disney, Chinese people treat the dead and spirited with respect. And I'm glad they gave us Mystic Manor, possibly my favourite ride from Disneyland here.
I can’t believe this was in 2016. The technology used in this ride is incredible even for 2023. I also like how this ride is based on a ORIGINAL story that Disney created without an ip attached to it. The US parks need to do more of this
Actually this is more of what Walt had in mind for the original Haunted mansion, where guests would walk room to room and here stories by a host as the room came to life around them.
+macnak81 Yeah, I was thinking this looked exactly like what they were originally going to do with The Haunted Mansion. But even being a Walt fanatic, I'm glad we have both versions in existence. Because, though I have never been on this one, just from this video alone, I've decided I like both. Maybe The Haunted Mansion a little bit more because I am obsessed with the paranormal and with Halloween, but the little girl in me is a fan of cute, animated Disney films, too. So Haunted Mansion houses all my dark loves and this seems to encompass my childhood love and appreciation for the quality of Disney storytelling and animation. It is definitely highly imaginative story-wise.
This would actually make for a pretty good Children’s movie by Disney. It has an unique storyline with likable characters. It’s also is an amazing ride!
Completely agree! The new Haunted Mansion is fantastic and has done so well and I can see them making this and Phantom Manor into movies too! I really hope they do anyway!

Pompeii exploding and the lava covering all the people is just so cool. Totally recommend visiting HK just for that ride. The best thing is, there is hardly ever a long line for this ride either!

Hong Kong has 2 official languages, Cantonese and English. Hong Kong was controlled by Enland for MANY years up onto the hand off like 10 years ago, everyone speaks english. Signs are all in English and then Cantonese, its such an easy country to navigate for english speakers and my favorite foreign city. Take a trip there
I love this ride! The concept is quite original and the narrative is clearand cohesive regardless of the language you speak! The "magic" effect is really convincing and I love how they included all sorts of manufacts, from statues to ancient urnes to mosaics! Everything looked very convincing!
It will be interesting when the next civilization to exist on this planet excavates the remnants of Disney rides. What will they think of their findings?
+Ryan Montero they can't have a HM over there as the Chinese view ghosts and spirits very differently to how we do so it could confuse or frighten the guests so they went for a version the Chinese would understand :)
Rick Nese the ride gets pretty boring after your third ride. Then again, it’s between Grizzly Gulch and Toy Story Land so go figure. There’s not a lot of people who go in as it doesn’t look much of a ride from the outside.
Scare of Corvid 19? Oh wait that wasn't a thing 3 years ago. I went in 2009 and 2011 finding HG was super busy and crowded. I couldn't get on the sky way tram thing to Lantau Island waiting 3 hours and still wasn't on turning back to the city instead.
I regret that this attraction is so far away. The effects, presentation, story, music and production values are all so good. This ride alone is worth the visit.
OMG THAT RIDE IS TERRIFYING. But the magic at the foreign parks are so well magical. I've Never been to a foreign park but like Jeez! I need to travel more i need to see Mystic Manor!
:'( This makes me cry at the poor quality of the American versions of Disney parks and rides. Why do other countries seems to have the "concept" of Disney better executed than the American version? I suppose one answer to this would be, since America came up with the Disney in the first place it seems the other countries learned from us, and improved their version of attractions x 1,000% so it seems. Better imagination, better construction of story lines, better animatronics, better lighting, better flow, better atmosphere that engages the senses....just better everything! I wish I was there right now.
Emerging markets probably. Even though it seems like crowd turnout was pretty low at the time of this filming, Disney must feel they have better chance at profiting from more advanced/fun rides in these markets. Plus, I really do think age has something to do with it. Disneyland Resort has almost no extra room for new attractions now, at least new ones requiring show buildings as large as the one required for this ride. Disney World on the other hand probably could get away with it, but Disneyland Resort is surrounded by Anaheim, and there is not much in terms of large chunks of non-used land for a larger attraction, which is why it seems like they are rebranding a lot of older rides at that park now (Tower of Terror ---> Guardians of the Galaxy / Space Mountain ---> HyperSpace Mountain)
They should build another North American park, possibly a seasonal one in the Northern US where it closes for the Winter (unless they make an indoor park, which probably couldn't happen). But yes, the lack of space and the fact that the parks are decades old is why the rides in the US aren't like the ones in Shanghai.
I’ve been to all six Disney Resorts in the world and this ride is the second best behind Shanghai Pirates. Mystic Manor is fantastic in every way, and is reason enough for any serious Disney fan to make the journey to Hong Kong.
4:32, When it cuts to darkness there is actually water sprinkled on you to make it fell like bugs are all over you I go to this ride basically everytime i go to HK Disneyland, I live in hk
I've been on this ride so many times, after I went on it once I just had to keep going until the line got long! Probably one of the best rides at HK Disney.

It’s hard, there’s a mix of mandarin here in the all part of people so eh, and the equivalent here sometimes are difficult to translate but eh. Basically what’s going on is what it seems in most.
Recently, I visited the HongKong Disney land which was also my first time at any theme park in my life. Most rides were either too scary, repetitive or made me feel dizzy an sick but Mystic Manor was absolutely amazing and was definitely the most amazing part of my day. It affected all your senses at once to make you feel like you were inside and 3D movie. Throughout the ride you were fully immersed in the storyline of the monkeys journey through the manor after accidentally opening a magic box. When you stepped out of the manor, it felt lie you were stepping into a different world or universe. Although I may not be the best person to recommend theme park rides, it was an amazingly magical experience and would strongly recommend it to anyone.
Also, the effect where created so well, that when the painting of the man picking an apple starts "freezing over" the room suddenly and noticeably cools down!!! Amazing!
In the Egyptian room, when the locusts climb from the ground, up the walls and onto the ceiling, it suddenly turns dark making it feel like you are trapped in a room, invaded with insects. As it suddenly goes dark, many small (what I now know) drops of water fall on you, giving you the sense that the insects are climbing over you!!
Ive been to disneyland mystic manor in hong kong and it tell us about the music box and the histories of the ancient world like ancient tribes, ancient egypt and ancient rome and greece
whenever i see amazingly built rides like this i just wanna tear up because its everyones childhood dreams becoming a reality and brought about in the best way
I’ve been there before, and it was very fun. My least favorite part was the crossbow part. It was so slow and scary for me. I had to close my eyes and cover my ears.
I really want this ride in the states! Picture a re-imagining of this in Animal Kingdom! A hunting lodge (almost like "Most Dangerous Game") where all the animals come to life and a bunch of other magical elements!
I live in Hong Kong. I was very hyped since the day I read the local newspaper when I was a kid!(Disney made an advertisement) HK was never a model city for others, but this particular ride is something I'm proud of.
Mystic Manor and the their version of Tower of Terror is something I want to experience for myself one day. Both of these rides have a lot in common. The music is phenomenal, the designs are unique and super creative, and they both push technological boundaries (Mystic Manor more than Tower of Terror though). Anyways, what I am trying to say is that I am super jealous lol I love Disneyland in California because it is the original park and the nostalgia is strong there with iconic rides but the innovation in China's Disneyland is incredible.
Wow!! These effects are out of the ball park!! Everything about this was so amazing and it blew me away. Albert looked almost the same when he was an animatronic and when he was a cartoon when the wall broke away. Also that effect was just so sick. I need to ride this pronto!!
This is awesome, I love the monkey and the special effects are so beautiful. Oh, and by the way, great camera work. The cinematography was just like being there. I liked how the camera takes a 360 look all around. Keep up the good work So Cal! You really made my day.
Many thanks for sharing this with TH-cam viewers. What a pleasantly smooth experience you've created here (no unpleasant jolts or jerks or shaking) on a fantastic ride. Everything is a whopping success in this attraction: exteriors/facade, queue area, movement, the characterizations of the professor and monkey, the brilliant effects, designs, music. So fun! 😃👍👍👍👍
woooow its an original ride and not made any movie form... and its from China but the Characters speak in English. This ride just blow my mind, we need this in America
LPS Snowyflake actually, not a lot of people speak mandarin there....maybe people who do business with China or in tourist areas might, but you’re more likely to find natives who speak English more than mandarin.

Take a trip there
Ryan Lengyel If I ever have the money, I will definitely visit this Disneyland.
oh yea, go to HK and you'd be surprised how westernized/international it is!

I love this ride! The concept is quite original and the narrative is clearand cohesive regardless of the language you speak! The "magic" effect is really convincing and I love how they included all sorts of manufacts, from statues to ancient urnes to mosaics! Everything looked very convincing!
Creativity + Engineering = Mystic Manor
You forget the “low budget”
I never thought I’d see the day where Sun Wukong was in anything Disney!! That paintings scene with the wall was NUTS!!!
It will be interesting when the next civilization to exist on this planet excavates the remnants of Disney rides. What will they think of their findings?
They'll be confused by the fact that in sunny California, they'll find a yeti not too far from a bunch of pirates and talking cars.
Man I just hope our civilization doesn't get wiped lol
+Don On the contrary, I hope it does.
Your name is on point.
They would think we have come to a point in our history where we are so lazy to even walk anywhere in our living facilities.
I loved this when I went to Hong Kong Disneyland. The effects were so beautiful and realistic looking at the same time.💕
They have amazing rides like this... and then they have Journey Into Imagination...
+Fast Forward Videos is there even a haunted mansion there?
+Ryan Montero this is the haunted mansions counterpart
+maddy yup
+Ryan Montero they can't have a HM over there as the Chinese view ghosts and spirits very differently to how we do so it could confuse or frighten the guests so they went for a version the Chinese would understand :)
Eric Idle Moon-Face is the "figment" of my nightmares.
This ride is amazing! The animatronics are fluid and the effects don't dissapoint!
My question is...WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?!?
Lol... that is the orient. Empty!
Less people go to HKDL after Shanghai Disneyland opened
Rick Nese the ride gets pretty boring after your third ride. Then again, it’s between Grizzly Gulch and Toy Story Land so go figure. There’s not a lot of people who go in as it doesn’t look much of a ride from the outside.
My sentiments exactly.
Wow, the animatronics are amazing. Lord Mystic's motion looks so fluid I thought he was a real person for a second
I regret that this attraction is so far away. The effects, presentation, story, music and production values are all so good. This ride alone is worth the visit.
HONG KONG DISNEYLAND IS SMALL. They deserve this great ride.
OMG THAT RIDE IS TERRIFYING. But the magic at the foreign parks are so well magical. I've Never been to a foreign park but like Jeez! I need to travel more i need to see Mystic Manor!
I'm a Hong Konger and I love this ride sooooo deeply. I'm sooo happy that HK have this perfect ride.
I don't think it has much to do with age because they still put new attractions in the American parks they just end up being underwhelming.
These are a lot newer than our parks.

The music is done by the incomparable Danny Elfman, no wonder it sounds amazing!
This rides is one of the best things WDI has done in years
+Fast Forward Videos ummm Walt Disney Imagineering developed the attraction. So yeah. WDI. thanks for the comment though. :/
+Fast Forward Videos Its made by Walt Disney Imagineering.
I’ve been to all six Disney Resorts in the world and this ride is the second best behind Shanghai Pirates. Mystic Manor is fantastic in every way, and is reason enough for any serious Disney fan to make the journey to Hong Kong.
Very interesting technology! I REALLY wish I would be able to afford to go to Disney in Hong Kong to see this in person!
I went there and it looks alot better in person
4:32,
When it cuts to darkness there is actually water sprinkled on you to make it fell like bugs are all over you
I go to this ride basically everytime i go to HK Disneyland, I live in hk
I always think if the water is dirty or not. And where does the water sprinkle from? I live in HK too.
we were so close to just skipping this ride when we visited. honestly one of the best rides there. really an amazing experience!!
I’m amazed how well disney did fit elements from The Haunted Mansion in here! Incredible to see one of the Grim Grinning Ghosts in the first scene!
I love the trackless rides at Disney, they are so well executed. So much attention to detail! This ride looks spectacular!
Disney outdid themselves again on this one, from the animatronics to the timing!
The visuals on this ride are amazing. - with my noise-cancelling headphones, I feel like I'm there!
That's what I said too. The visuals were so immersive! Great job on the story telling too.
As a Hong Kong citizen, I am somewhat proud of our small but quite special Disneyland
That was...gorgeous. You know a ride like this is great when just seeing a video of it is impressive.
I've been on this ride so many times, after I went on it once I just had to keep going until the line got long! Probably one of the best rides at HK Disney.
This ride is absolutely amazing it genuinely looks magical 10/10
Fun fact! At 2:48, the little guy actually jumps out of the pot but the camera doesnt show it. Definitely recommend this ride if anyone comes to hk disneyland ^^
I'm from hong kong and I've been to this Disneyland a couple of times. I love this ride.
im also from Hong Kong and I’ve bees on this ride a lot of times and it’s still one of my favourite rides
been*
I was jaw dropped surprised when I experienced this ride. Did not expect it will be that magically awesome.
Can someone translate all the words for me?
Kyle Allen Music The only thing I know is what the headless knights are trying to say
🎶Magic's in the air today
Stand beside me, don't look away
Try to find some words to say
Whom do you think you'll find here? Somebody's got to pay.
OOOOooooOOOOOooooOOOO
No getting away from an ancient curse and hiding will only make it worse.🎶
Why do you want the lyrics? Ya know this song is a copyright of Disney and Danny Elfman because He wrote the song.
Cause some people like to know what is being said?
why wouldn't they want the lyrics
なんかすごいなこのアトラクション!
1:35 I always notice the bust on the top left and expect it to start singing "Grim Grinning Ghosts" 😆
I'm born in Hong Kong and Ive been their about 20 times already.
Little bit scary, but great after-ride feeling and I really enjoy the music.
(Little secret: For now only Hong Kong has this)
Ive been to disneyland mystic manor in hong kong and it tell us about the music box and the histories of the ancient world like ancient tribes, ancient egypt and ancient rome and greece
I love the way this ride is laid out! It looks so grand and clean
whenever i see amazingly built rides like this i just wanna tear up because its everyones childhood dreams becoming a reality and brought about in the best way
Music by Danny Elfman, FYI
yes my boy ! oingo boingo fans represent
Oh shut up, that is really a good fact!!!
And Frank Welker (Abu from Aladdin among many, many other roles throughout the decades) voices Albert the monkey!
It's his best score in YEARS
So that's why it sounds so beautiful!
Always coming back here because I miss this ride so much! Hongkong Disneyland is fun but this ride is my highlight!!
OMG this is incredible!! Solidifies my dream of visiting every Disney park in the world!
Sunny: This must be the monkey world right? I really like monkey because I love it!
The best part for me was the armory section, with the ballista firing at you and the singing armor heads
I live in Hong Kong. I was very hyped since the day I read the local newspaper when I was a kid!(Disney made an advertisement) HK was never a model city for others, but this particular ride is something I'm proud of.
I love this ride the most!
Effects are stunning and amazing.
I really like the realism and how fluid the animation and the animatronics can be
I really appreciate what you shared with us I appreciate it
I want them to do a new Journey into Imagination with Figment at Epcot using this technology. I would be so excited to see that.
Imagine how much better it would be if they reboot that ride bring Dreamfinder back and use even 1/10 of this technology...
I Give It A:

I Love The Way In The Egyptian Antiques The Mummys' Face Turns To "😐" To "😧" This Is Just Impressive.
THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!! We need rides like this at Disneyland!!! :)
It is Disneyland, but Hong Kong. :)
I have watched this like 20 times and each time it brings a tear to my eye.
This is the most immersive ride ive ever seen!
Disneyland’s Magnum Opus!
Wow!! These effects are out of the ball park!! Everything about this was so amazing and it blew me away. Albert looked almost the same when he was an animatronic and when he was a cartoon when the wall broke away. Also that effect was just so sick. I need to ride this pronto!!
Aww I miss this ride this was the best
Ride I have ever been into
This is awesome, I love the monkey and the special effects are so beautiful. Oh, and by the way, great camera work. The cinematography was just like being there. I liked how the camera takes a 360 look all around. Keep up the good work So Cal! You really made my day.
1:51 I ❤️ The 🎶 📦! This 🎵 📦 Is So 😎!
No Hong Kong is actually a city with people that almost everyone speaks English , Manderin and Cantonese.
LPS Snowyflake actually, not a lot of people speak mandarin there....maybe people who do business with China or in tourist areas might, but you’re more likely to find natives who speak English more than mandarin.
This is unbelievable!!! I literally sat with my mouth open for 5 minutes.
5:47 AMAZING!
This is just like the Haunted Mansion, but a non-scary one!
2:50 I recognize the characters on that vase!
Who put the glad in gladiator? Hercules!!
5:30 That's Sun Wukong, the Monkey King!!
Wow! All this and Danny Elfman's music is fantastic!
