Plant Shopping in China! UNIQUE Houseplants - Interesting Ways to Grow and Display Plants 🌿

- Dear plant lovers,
It was late spring in Shanghai, a nd I’m plant shopping with a dear friend Johannes, whom I’ve known for over a decade. Many of you don’t know this… but I used to live and work in Shanghai.
The city has transformed beyond recognition after ALL these year. I DO have a fun travel episode on my personal channel “Onlysean”, My Shanghai Travel Vlog: • Travel Inside China’s ...
Now, Johannes is a Philippino expat living in Shanghai with a charming apartment and a youtube channel. He is looking for some houseplants for his apartment on this fateful day.
Address: 国际花艺时代广场(虹桥古玩城)
上海市闵行区虹桥镇金汇路528号
During our shopping spree, I share tons of useful plant care tips for advanced plant parents like Johannes.
This includes ferns, caladiums, orchids, schefflera, thaumatophyllum and more...
Ladies and gentlemen, this a rare glimpse into the plant market in China. We come across tons of unique plants neverbefore featured on this channel. And in some cases, some of the common plants we are familiar with - were grown and displayed in ways that are surprisingly beautiful, and uniquely Chinese! I walked out of this experience feeling TOTALLY inspired.
If you see something peculiar or interesting, let’s hear it in the comment section!

Yeahh I dont know if I will find a better kept garden center
Please keep posting videos and continue to explain how to care for indoor plants. Love your videos! Thank you.
Thank you 😀❤️
A vatiety of beautiful plants
😊Thanks for posting...😍
Fascinating look into Chinese plant culture, thanks for all your hard work!
😀😀
OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! it's such fresh air I've been getting bored of those same old big box store plant shopping videos like homedepot and lowes, thank you!
❤️❤️😀
A very beautiful and luxurious plant shopping mall! In France, the plant-garden centers are selling now many baby plants of all kind to very low prices (in that quantity, it is really new). It shows a same thing : that plants are increasingly important for people, rich or poor! Humanity realizes how important it is to be surrounded by the nature, even at home, especially in big cities where nature has almost lost his place! Thank you for all your beautiful videos and endless teaching ! 👍👍😉😉
Yes! And no matter what geopolitics or belief system, we all are connected by our love and respect for nature, and our determination to grow them in our homes. Omg this should have been the introduction!
You are telling it in a thousand ways in your videos !!! You encourage people to love and care plants : you are doing a great job for the planet, making people aware of the importance not to lose contact with nature ! You know where to go to find nature even in these big cities! All best to you! 😘😘
Beautifully said!
Thank you very much and thousand thanks to Onlyplants/Sean! ❤💚
@@CathieSp-jv1os I live in France too but the choice of plants is rather smaller than in the video... The issue with small plants is that if you're a beginner like me, they're harder to grow/keep.
You have the best tours when you travel to different areas. I love to see all the uncommon plants that we don't have in the USA. Your friend bought some nice plants! Thank you for taking us along!
Thank youuu. More to come! ❤️
I visited Shanghai today and made a trip on this place and I was able to buy nice philodendron one. Thanks for this video.
Thats cool!
Very artistic and creative display and form making common plants looking very unique and artsy.
❤️❤️
Some gorgeous plants, please keep videos coming
Thank youuu. My episodes are once a week usually saturdays. Hope you can catch more 😀
6:58 Sean, they are called rubber trees because their sap has white latex that was used to make rubber in the 1900s. Most rubber is made synthetically nowadays.
Also the Tillandsia changing colour is due to them going into bloom soon or bright light.
Thank you for sharing this!
love to see your videos! you are one of my favourite creators out here. have you thought about growing a sterilitzia nicolai or a ravenala madagascariensis? i love those plants even thou they became very popular and know they are almost everywhere.
I would love those but I havent got the land for them 😀 they can get enormous.
This is amazing! We always hear about south Asian or Latin American tropical but never seen the Chinese market for plants. Thanks for sharing!
😀😀🙏🏽

hi Sean! would like to share my personal observations on the care of hybrid Phal orchids, trust me because i had already killed a lot of them.. LOL
After purchasing these types of orchids, place them under shady spot with bright indirect light to acclimatise . And follow the watering instructions u said. Mine, i had it adapt for about 3 months bec. that time i was already very careful.. Then i placed it outside in a bright indirect place. Mind you, it survived til now with all the heavy rains we had in Philippines, BUT, one should change the medium. I had it placed inside a hanging coco husk design basket, added with few chunks of husks to stabilize! it grew plenty of roots!
I see that the degree of care will vary if u grew it indoor or outdoor. Just avoid direct sunlight. If ur a heavy waterer, change its potting medium.. Water it every 3 days for dry season (depending on the medium used), and on rainy days, just let it enjoy the rain.
BUT there are really SENSITIVE breeds that I noticed.. 😅
Thanks for this detailed share!
Fun to see new plants but I’m always surprised by how much I learn from each episode. Thank you. 😊
Thank you for taking the time to write in ❤️

At 3:17 it looks like a laceleaf variety of Japense maple (Acer palmatum). It's extremely thin trunk suggests some version of literati-style bonsai.
Thank you ❤️

It's really early in the morning here in California; still dark outside, but I have the urge to go outside and top off all of my ficus so they'll branch 😆. I recommend aeonium as they are very easy and forgiving in all kinds of conditions. Love bright light, and can take extra water and cold. Thanks for another educational and inspiring video!
Interesting about the aeoniums. I actually havent seen one in Indonesia. I wonder if the heat here causes them to suffer
All the best sean .. its really awesome
Thanks! 😀
Thank you so much for sharing, Sean!

Hi Sean, I really enjoyed your video. So love to see how other countries styled their plants. Very creative.
Thank you. I learnt so much from travelling too
Love this!
Thank you ❤️❤️
@3:13 Japanese Maple tree; Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Red Dragon’. They are very popular in the U.S. in landscaping. Thank you Sean so much for all your videos and superb film production skills/music choices. So calming. I was having a hard day but your videos always make me so happy! Thank you 🙏
Glad to bring some joy into your life. Thanks for this uplifting comment ❤️
Beautiful!!!
Thank you ❤️❤️
Great advice in the orchid care. Most people overwater them without realizing the orchid has a better chance of survival if you let it dry out in between watering. Spag moss is the best for me because I need to water less. I own over 600 orchids so watering is minimal for me. Great show a always!👍🏼
Oh my gosh thats a lot of orchids!
Super enjoy watching this vlogs..i really love it..thx,for sharing this wonderful garden ..
Thank you for watching 🥰
Osm time just flew watching u guys at this shop asking right questions.❤
Haha thank you. We had a blast
Wonderful ❤
😀😀❤️
That was an enjoyable episode with some intresting plants.
1 horrible trend for me is the dying of the plants to change the colour of the blooms. And I particulary dislike the blue phalenopsis trend, in my opinion it looks sickly and artifical.
Thanks Sean...
🕊✨️🙌💙🙏💚🙏💙🙏🙌✨️🦋
Thank you. I have a feeling the dyeing of the flower is quite rare occurence… and is a dying art rather than a trend. Hopefully it stays that way 😀
Super!
Thank you 😀❤️
Im a plant lover that’s why i watch it until the end of your video ❤
Thank you ❤️
So beautiful
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for feeding my eyes. A filipina plant lover here❤😊
