The response he gave after he accepted was basically 'when did you figure out that using my own people against me was the only way to get me to accept a promotion?' I wonder what the 10 incompetent officers of the Rebel Alliance were? Same for the Republic and Separatists during the Clone Wars as well as the competent officers too.
I think that in the case of the Rebel Alliance, instead of incompetent one could speak of short-lived. In the case of the rebels, there wasn't much chance of failing a mission and getting out alive.
Saw Gerrera. I know that might be controversial given that he is on this competency list, but hear me out. Saw was charismatic, which won people to his cause, but his grasp of strategy was basically just attack the nearest Imperial target regardless of its importance or collateral damage, which ended up costing him troops and social capital. Because of this, people who might have otherwise been sympathetic to the Rebellion saw it as little more than a terrorist organization. He's a great example of how someone can be moderately successful, skillful in combat, but still be incompetent as a strategist or long-term planner.
I would actually put Luke as not being a particularly good Rebel officer. Accomplished pilot, sure, but canon Luke makes some very questionable decisions that almost get him killed.
Lando Calrissian. If it hadn't been for him the Rebel fleet would have been, if not completely wiped out, then at least seriously denuded by the time the shield went down. Plus, he was the first to realise the deflector shield was still up, which saved all but three rebel fighters.

The idea of refusing a promotion to stay on the field sounds good and all. But the reality is, there comes a point where you can do a lot more good with your skills higher up then just leading a squad.
It is pretty cool that the rebellion is so small and so highly dedicated that they attract such high functioning minds, such that pilots can and have to be generals. Since there just aren’t enough highly trained pilots in the rebellion.
you could also put Saw as one of the most incompetent but not from a combat perspective but from the fact that he caused severe damage to other movements and provided easy justification for imperial retaliation. Good solder, Decent tactician, Not a good influencer.
Yeah…. One thing never made sense to me with “Rogue 1”. The planetary shield was knocked out. Any surviving pilots could have escaped Scariff. Alan your data on combat flight hours is inaccurate. The last Rag squadron I was assigned to the instructors were over 3k hours in their frame alone. That is not counting flight time in other frames. By the time a typical Naval Aviator has gone to phase three it is not uncommon for them to be over a thousand hours and still considered a trainee.
It never actually was destroyed. The gate didn't actually power the sheild it simply offered a way to acces the surface without dropping the whole sheild and their was a surface station that powered the actual sheild. When the star gate was destroyed it produced more of a ripple but if it was actually the generator the sheild would have disputed instantly. In the Heir To The Empire novels, Wedge is also very important and you get to know him a bit more than just the few seconds of screen time he has in the movies.
Another slighted officer (besides Lando), Luke was instrumental in rescuing Leia, recruiting Han, destroying the First Death Star, commanding Rogue Squadron before Wedge, neutralize both Vader and Palpatine (against the advice of Kenobi and Yoda, among others), plus all the other exploits described in the Legends continuity. If you take the X-Wing novel series as canon, Admiral Ackbar did eventually talk Wedge Antilles into accepting a promotion to General. In the final book in the series, Wedge's command ship was an Imperial super star destroyer, reflagged in the New Republic fleet. He was also personally responsible for the mission to liberate Corsuscant among others
Ackbar did not only just lead the rebel fleet. He basically built it. He essentially wrote the fleet doctrine for the rebel alliance, created training programs for the fleet and was the chief architect of the fleets entire organizational structure. He managed to take the alliances hodge-podge of ships and formed them into a coherent battle force that could go toe to toe with Imperial formations.
While I do love Ackbar, the credit for all of that belongs to Ackbar’s predecessor: Admiral Raddus. Raddus was the leader of the Alliance Navy and established the core of alliance naval doctrine from their early beginnings. Ackbar replaced Raddus as leader of the Alliance Fleet after Raddus’ death at Scarif, and was responsible for many amazing feats of his own, but the title of “father of the alliance navy” definitely has to go to Raddus.
I think commander Skywalker was so underrated he along with general rieken and major Bren the ground forces were able to pull of a successful defense while high command was evacuated
I’d like to see a video detailing as much background info as possible about the rebel pilots in the Battle of Yavin. Too me, something about those guys strike me as some of the most efficient and compact character development of all time. They all feel like real characters, none of them feel like extras, even though they have such small parts.
And to think that Hera did all those things while also being a mother as well. My mother could barely handle me and my siblings so I can't imagine what would happen if my mother was then put in charge of important things going on in a rebellion while she was also rising kids
That’s what I want to know. He acted like a dumbass the whole film insisting on killing Galen Erso like there was any logic to it and in fact killing Galen dragged out the Rebellion’s struggle by requiring a trip to Scarif.

Great pieces for each leader, thanks. I was thinking Bail was an important leader for his work in single-handedly forming the Rebel Alliance, and educating Leia, whom I believe is the most important leader of the Alkiance, and probably the best leader ever in galactic history.
Going through this whole series and I would love to see more. Thanks for the great videos Adam!
“Wedge Antilles is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated rebel heroes.” Welp, you earned a like for that alone.
I want to say you always do a great job. Keep up the good work
Still so cool that the actor who played Wedge is Ewan McGregor's uncle on his mother's side of the family. What were the odds really
I always was a wedge fan, appreciate the appreciation
Chaddus Antilles truly legendary.
If only Blue Squadron survived; the Death Star would have been destroyed much faster.
... no
@@TJDious why not? there would be an entire other squadron of experienced pilots, which could have allowed for better tactics and a speedier victory.
If only Blue Screens weren't an issue back in the 70s. :P
@@minicle426 I remember reading about that. Red squadron was originally Blue squadron behind the scenes but the blue stripe caused the issue mentioned above.
@@MrShop-fg2on You could have any amount of pilots and they still wouldn't have been able to win without Luke. All it would do is just get more lives lost.
Sorry AL. When you said Luke swinging his sword with his father I couldn't stop laughing 😉🤣🤣
As of the Aftermath books (pre the Force Awakens) Wedge DID accept a promotion
and in Legends, as of the book Isard's Revenge when Admiral Ackbar pointed out that his refusing promotions was keeping his pilots from accepting promotions to positions where their skills could be best used
0:04 Alan sounding like the raptor in Grant's dream in JP3
Just love when Hera falls into her native accent. That accent is totally how she got into Kanan's pants.
Ze Twi'Leki faux Francais' Accent you mean ?
Someone knew what they were doing when they gave one of the most attractive species in the galaxy French accents. :P
@@minicle426 . The Murderous Togruta should have had that Lilting Irish accent .
Sounds sincere , friendly and Sexy AF , as they cut your heart out . And Eat it .
Curious, who is that finishing stretching or meditating at the beginning of this video? I refer to the reflection on your big TV.
I forget who it was but I recall the leader of Twilight company being very well respected.
Antoc merrick went out with a smile and a trail of glory.
Saw Guerrera is an interresting entry cuz he was surely a competent leader able to win battles and survive...but he was also narrowminded wich could sometimes make him look like a liability to the rebellion.
Great video! Now we need a part 2 with Rex.
In legends, wedge antilles name for a Twi´lek word, describing Star warriors.
The idea of refusing a promotion to stay on the field sounds good and all. But the reality is, there comes a point where you can do a lot more good with your skills higher up then just leading a squad.
Wedge Antilles: the only pilot with a kill count so large it has to be counted by squadrons rather than individual kills on his fighter.
Imagine what Hera could have done with a Venator
It is pretty cool that the rebellion is so small and so highly dedicated that they attract such high functioning minds, such that pilots can and have to be generals. Since there just aren’t enough highly trained pilots in the rebellion.
you could also put Saw as one of the most incompetent but not from a combat perspective but from the fact that he caused severe damage to other movements and provided easy justification for imperial retaliation. Good solder, Decent tactician, Not a good influencer.
The photo of Wedge Antilles from the briefing room at the battle of Yavin was actually "Fake Wedge".
In the eu wedge also appears in the aftermath books, being tutor of sorts to tenin "snap" wexley
There definitely needs to be a part 2
Yeah some did try to escape but at that time the Death Star and Darth Vader both arrived essentially and almost wiped out the entire Rebel fleet.
Also you can still see the sheild when the Death star shows up
@@toptiergaming6900 after the DS1 fired a low tier blast don’t tell me that shield was not down.
@@mikewaterfield3599 when that happened the planet shield coulda been at OVERCHARGE an it STILL probably wouldn't have mattered. Something designed to one shot entire planets an make them violently explode at full strength and totally devestate the local area an totally nuke the target at low then a planetary shield won't even have an noticable attempt at slowing it down
@@robertagu5533 that was kinda my point, with the proton shielding down any surviving craft could escape
Pretty good resumé, if you ask me.
I always wondered why starfighters never had ejection seats when in atmosphere.
X-wings and tie fighters do, they just rarely ever fight in atmosphere so the pilots probably train never using them
@@brockgundich I don't think they train much for ejector seats while flying as is. Ignoring that most fights ive seen in atmosphere have been cas operations and there probably isn't enough height for parachuting.
they have ejection seats, at least according to X-wing and Tie-Fighter game series. Though probably more optimised for space ops than atmospheric flight... in-movie we dont seem to ever see one in action, "for the drama"
Fantastic information! Greatly appreciate it!
Great show... I'm almost up to date... TY.
Allen is getting more and more chaotic with every video
Luke being a weapon and Leia being the commander is very much in line with how Star Wars Legion made their models.
I love how they managed to make Ackbar smile when the Executor goes down.
I think commander Skywalker was so underrated he along with general rieken and major Bren the ground forces were able to pull of a successful defense while high command was evacuated
Honorable mention for Commander Rex
Well there is Mon Moffma, she did a lot of work behind the scenes. I think she even formed the group that went to get the second deathstar plans
She is no officer she is a politician.
@@Pausi10_00 and many people dislike pacifists because they contradictory to what star wars was
I heard she was actually a GRAND Moffma. Not to be confused with the leader of the Rebel Kaiju Alliance, Mon Mothra.

The thing I feel as notable with Wedge Antilles is the Doylist detail of Dennis Lawson coming back in the sequel trilogy.
Can’t forget about wedges command of the lusankia in legends during the dark empire event
Wedge, underrated you say....
*Pretending that there weren't two whole-ass games on the gamecube where you played as him.*
There also 9 books where he play important role. But I agree he is underrated character.
@@wojtek561 I'm not sure he is though. In the *Disney* canon, yes. But in the old EU? The man's got tons of attention.
0:06 The dolphins got him
Lando really took my boy Wedge - *one of the greatest pilots the galaxy had ever seen* - and made him a turret gunner on the Falcon...

What role did Draven play in stealing the Death Star plans?
That’s what I want to know. He acted like a dumbass the whole film insisting on killing Galen Erso like there was any logic to it and in fact killing Galen dragged out the Rebellion’s struggle by requiring a trip to Scarif.
The whole time he was talking about Wedge, I was thinking about Maverick 🤣🤣
Could u guys a vid about the incompetent and competent jedi generals
You forgot Deck Officer. The man who wisely closed the blast doors on Hoth during a blizzard, despite the idiotic Luke Skywalker wanting to cruise around on his souped up tauntaun, being trapped outside. Solo said he'd see him in Hell, but I'm sure he got the last laugh when he found out Captain Solo was made into a wall decoration for Jabba the Hutt.
Han Solo brokers a deal with the Natives cannibals. 😂😂😂 I didn't know the Ewoks were Cannibals 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Wdge entilys Also helped to steal a star destroyer. That was pretty cool.
Always to me, Hera is a great general and the best mom for two adoptive kids and one biological kid in a wonderful reality especially as she was trying to keep all of her soldiers and kids alive and well through the hard times of the galactic war! May we thank characters like her being invented to look up to!
Replacing purple hair lady with Admiral Ackbar would have seriously made TLJ a better movie.
Love from a Greetlys and Vaush fan!
Can you do a video on juno eclipse?

Jun sato: "And now you know, Admiral. Until we meet again."
Thrawn: "Yes, until we meet again.
Minor nitpick but the guy who says “that’s impossible, even for a computer isn’t Wedge” and is credited as John D in the first SW film
Wait… Wedge only gets 1 kill for the Death Star? Who decided that? Gimli?
Kills are count by craft not crew. You don’t get multiple kills for shooting down a transport.
Getting Wedge Atilles back for Rise of Skywalker only to put him in a cannon turret is like putting Erich Hartmann in the ball turret of a B-17, just a waste of talent.
Jun Sato was probably my favorite and one of the most heroic rebel cell leaders during the beginning of the war and he was also very intelligent
Also fitting for his team being named PHOENIX Cell seeing how he managed to get to rise back from the ashes when their first base was destroyed
I see Rebels from Rogue One and they're immediately my favs. Huge Raddus stan!
