  • Combining corn and making of Corn Cob Mix (CCM) using a CASE IH 8250 Axial-Flow with 10-row Geringhof header. The corn is milled using a Stade grinding mill powered by a 650hp John Deere engine. The CCM is transported to the pit by a Case IH Puma CVX with Kurstjens 3 axle containercarrier. The CCM is used as Pig or Cattle feed, it has a higher percentage of energy and protein then wholecrop maize silage.

    What is the purpose of including cob in the high moisture corn ? In the USA, high moisture is ensiled,fed without cob.

    • @planeiron241
      @planeiron241 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Filler for cows although it has no nutrients it makes the cow or beef feel full, even though the crushed corn has high nutrient enough, which makes energy and wt for the cow or beef, the cob will fill the stomachs, and come out as fertilizer stomachs 4

    Does the combine grind the corn and the cob together? Or is that just corn seed in the bin and the amount of chaff doesn’t matter.

    • @Snowtruckdriver
      @Snowtruckdriver 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The combine removes the kernals from the cob. There is a certain amount of broken cob in the grain bin due to moisture content of the cob itself. It is a minimal amount and it is ground up with the corn

    • @glennspreeman1634
      @glennspreeman1634 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually a cornhead on a silage cutter with a screen for sizing in US.

    • @samkom33
      @samkom33 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@glennspreeman1634 most farms use screens.. my guess reason for removing the screen is at least 2 fold..
      1: it almost remove all kernels falling out of the back of the combine.
      2: even the best milk cow need more than 100% corn, most tmr is a mix of corn-corn silage-hay-straw+minerals-salt, and whatever
      spesially the bigger farms take samples of every feed and have spesialists-labs create the recepy for their tmr,
      depending on the nutrient content of every part of the mix.
      so say 1% more cobs in their ration may mean that they have to add say 1% more corn-cob MIX,
      to get the desired protein value, than what they had to add if they used 100% pure corn, but lost say 2-3% during harvest.

      the sivs are wide open, in the US you would be docked price for "trash" in you grain. this being made for feed it isn't the end of the world but the combine definitely needs to be adjusted.

    Can someone explain to me why this is called " Corn cob mix"? Its just ground high moisture corn... 99% of the cob is going out the back of the combine.
    If it was the whole ear and ground it would make more sense. Because thats what i do. i pick whole ears and grind that.
    Is it just an old European name from before combines? And no one clarified what they are talking about?
    What do you call it when you grind the entire cob and kernels then?

      @Daniel Sye • On 30th October 2015, TractorSpotter uploaded a similar video which had a similar title, but was more detailed in its vision of the process, and a more convincing demonstration of the machinery involved. But I'm not a feed lot specialist or an animal nutritionist, so I can't answer your detailed enquiries.
      However, if you read the comments and discussion _in that video_ (as I did), you'll find exactly the same controversy going on in the minds of viewers.
      Even after seven years of discussion about this _Earth Shattering Topic,_ farmers, cows and pigs can't really decide the actual content of Belgian Corn Cob Mix.
      Time to get *Detective Poirot onto the Case II.* A lot of people thought he was French, but no, he was Belgian (so he's used to controversy)
