The U.S. has previously expressed regret to Argentina for its role in that country's 'dirty war.' Do you think the U.S. should apologize to El Salvador for its role in this brutal civil war?

    • @harryy7010

Yes. Because imo if the US didn't interfere in the War, the Conflict may/ may not have happened at all.

I am a politics student who aspires to be a politician. I had a couple of friends telling me that authoritarian regimes are more efficient and therefore better than democracies. I want to explain to them the devastating effects of dictatorships on countries like El Salvador, but I just don't know how I would be able to explain it without actually crying and losing my temper at their ignorant remarks. I know I should master the art of calmness for the sake of political discourse if I ever want to be a (real) politician but it seems to be one of the hardest things to do when you encounter people who seem to lack any source of sympathy towards the sufferings of others.

Why are we not better or further advanced. Why do we hinder our selves to the US ideals? We should be the example of forward thinking and forward technology. She said that at night she heard gunshots and saw somebody hide behind her house, they didn't want the soldiers to think that they were accomplices, so they didn't invite him in, they were scared that they would go inside their house, She and her siblings slept but her parents were up all night. It wasnt diecrtly US fault, but during the civil war. The US did escalate the war and made it very deadly. Some statistics put 90% of casualties caused by US. Followed by the FMLN. US hasnt done much to help the country they destoryed.

It’s a ashamed it’s such a beautiful country but plagued with violence! My parents left El Salvador in 1980 to escape the civil war and my dad worked for the government there in the 60’s and 70’s but knew that they were corrupted and knew that his life and my family’s were on the line because of the war and thus came to United States. This is very sad for me to see even though I wasn’t born there, but it’s still my parents and family’s homeland, my heritage and my culture being destroyed.

In 1970 I was on a four man team from the 8th Special Forces Group in Ft Gulick Panama assigned to El Salvador on a Military Training Mission to teach a three week course to the Salvadoran Army teaching the establishment of Army field Communations on three week courses conducted at the city of San Salvador , San Miguel and Sonsonate. The city of San Salvador was beautiful and the people seems very happy at night partying in their outdoor cafes and they seem very happy at all three cities. we traveled all over at all the training locations there was no sign of gangs and I moved all over at night not being in any danger they had just had what they called the Football war. It is hard to believe the state of these cities now.

America First. America spent trillions of dollars in the Mid-East. How long can our economy be drained? Right now Rural America in places like Ohio, and West Virginia are in a depression. Suicide and drug addictions are a big problem. illegal immigration is lowering the wages of the poorest workers.

The only ones who can stop crime and violence are the Salvadorean citizens you can NOT blame any government or other organizations if you are not ready to start with changing your own behavior first so. " Love your neighbor and do well to others" . Point is no nation can live off the past if they want to progress
