- Molossia. Slobovia. The Aerican Empire. If you don’t remember any of these countries from geography class, you’re not alone. They are all “micronations,” self-declared sovereign states not formally recognized by any official authority (other than each other). This summer, representatives from 27 of these would-be fiefdoms gathered for a summit in Dunwoody, Georgia. While several of these micronations claim that they are their own autonomous countries, many are created as a political protest, for artistic reasons or as a social experiment.
MicroCon 2017 was hosted by Veronica Boritz, who also identifies as Queen Anastasia von Elphberg of Ruritania. The event, which lasted four days, included multiple outings for the micronational leaders, a symposium with speeches on subjects like “Micronational post system” and “Women in micronations: Starting your own or supporting your dictator husband.”

Morty, I am a 4th year medical student, and find this to be fascinating. To cope with the death of a loved one by creating and entire country is a fascinating way to cope with the death of a loved one. This type of grandiosity is something I would love to learn more about in person.

Ruritania existed prior to his death.

Our concerns are for my mother, the rest of the Royal Family, our people... what you believe to make us "crazy ass people" just means you don't fully understand the beauty of micronationalism. That's ok, I can understand how you might come to that belief., hell I was born into this and have heard all the arguments before.
We truly don't care to be recognized by some organization that will fit us into their box, their standardized, cookie cutter style of existence.
I think an easier way for some people with dissenting opinions on our community is to think of it mote as an extreme form of libertarianism or maybe even an organized, and I'll use this term loosely, anarchy.
I'm happy to discuss civilly micronationalism: what it is, how much work is involved in it, the amazing people I've met along the way... just let me know.

The country that actually owns it will just ignore you claiming to be a country and arrest you anyway. Law and sovereignty are based on the strength to enforce them and other people agreeing with you.
