Seems like about 20-25 years after a systems peak is when resale prices peak. The kids that grew up with the systems have disposable income.

exactly it. I have been reselling in general, not just video games for 20yrs. I have so many systems go from practically being given or thrown away to being worth so much money once they hit a certain point.

Sounds correct. Og Xbox was my peek gaming time. I’ve since modded/hardware upgraded/ cleaned/ maintenance about 200 og Xboxes.
I started in 2020 after college. I remember thinking “I couldn’t afford these consoles & hardware even just 2 years ago”
Unfortunately the X360 catalogue is not completely 100% back compatible.
They may have some more BC games coming soon since the Activision deal went through and legal/copyright issues made them cease the program before.

@Executi0ner246 yea some. Unless xbox puts out a separate device deviates to backwards compatible this means the games are really only limited to playing on the lasting consoles left. Sures there's emulations but it's not the same, not how the games were meant to be and be illegal and takes some extra steps 9/10 rather than plug and play.

I remember buying stacks of 360 games (along with PS3 and Wii) at GameStops for years that nobody wanted. A lot of the games you mentioned in this video. The people working there were always like "Finally glad someone is taking these off our hands" and I'd always take advantage of those 4 for $10/20 deals. At the time I saw what was happening to SNES/N64/PS1 games and I knew this would happen in time.
I always thought one of the golden gooses for the 360 would be Operation Darkness. I've seen a lot of these games multiple times (some not so much, Zoids Assault was one I never saw weirdly) in multiple locations all around the country. I've literally only seen Operation Darkness once and its the copy I bought when I saw it.
I used to check Operation Darkness availability from GameStop's website and for 5 straight years there was always NONE AVAILABLE in a 100 mile radius. Saw Culdcept a half dozen times. I think Zoids I remember seeing for awhile in the New section because nobody bought it for like 2 years 😆 but yeah since then it's one you rarely come across.
@@tampabaytradeday786 Culdcept was another one I knew would shoot up. I at least saw that a handful of times too. I remember buying this one on eBay specifically, and I actually got it in 2018 for less than $20 lol. This probably won't ever get remade/ported either, Omiyasoft seems to be dead and haven't really done anything in a while.
Still a firm believer that Operation Darkness is going to be a $200 game, it's just one of those games that whoever bought it way back just isn't going to give it up. It looks like 70k copies were sold total (take that with a grain of salt from VGChartz) and for 360 that's pretty low.
@@MilkWasABadChoice17 it's a sick game! The blend of real world history with fantasy that plays like a fire emblem and it's very uncommon and only released in North America for English translation. That's as top-tier as a game can be. I think right now there's a big shake up with 360 game prices from people being informed about hidden gems and running to buy a Wartech or a Culdcept or Darkest of Days and over time we'll see that those games settle down in price. There will be more people trying to sell a copy than there will be demand to pay these new prices for a lot of the games that have exploded. But Operation Darkness is just a little more rare and a lot more interesting. I'm keeping an eye on it and it keeps climbing in price and there's always few copies available.

I'm currently selling all my games and using the money to pay off all my debt instead. I'm tired of collecting. I'm going to cash out and I've already replaced half my consoles with ode's and ever drives and hard drive mods. Done paying these crazy prices. As long as I'm playing on real hardware I don't care.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat as you. It’s just not fun to collect anymore, and once you go the everdrive route it’s impossible to go back. Plus with disc based systems, with an ODE you never have to worry about disc rot or the laser failing. Abandoning collecting is ironically the best thing you can do if you actually enjoy playing games.

@@sonicecho5235 I also have a Polymega so I have most of my retro collection ripped to the internal harddrive I installed, so the physical media is now expendable. Ironically enough, installing/testing these games has gotten me to play more games than I have in a long time so it’s a win-win for me.

Hey Pete, appreciate your previous video on this topic and coming back to it again as it starts to get hot. Got almost all the games I wanted to get last year, only a few very cheap ones to go. I think I'll add them to my collection soon and then lay back as the storm is setting in. You sure saved me a couple of bucks, so thanks a lot!

Formula 1 2013 is a game that Bobby Baqai over at Deal Tavern has a few thousand copies that he was supposed to circulate online but he pulled his listing so now it's a very "rare" game except to Bobby who has most of the print run.
It also only released in Latin regions for the ntsc u version. I didn’t know that Deal Tavern had a stockpile of them.

Another Atlus 360 exclusive tactical RPG is Spectral Force 3. Really interesting how Xbox got a trio of them as well as several other big budget JRPGs to compete against Playstation (a few ended up being timed exclusives). It was a very entertaining "console war"!

Just a correction the Xbox 360 store will be shutdown that doesn't include backward compatibility titles those can still be bought from modern Xbox store digitally also any previously bought Xbox 360 content will still be able to be downloaded past the shutdown date.

yep. it’s standard that delisting and shutdowns only stop new purchases. previous purchases are not affected.
The funny thing is if you have a Modded Xbox 360 you basically have every single Xbox 360 game that has ever released it'd be cheaper just to spend a one-time fee on a modded 360
Yes however then the limitation is held by the machine.if the machine breaks down then you have to re-buy a modded xbox and then you can't bring the games to a friend or family member or let them borrow it. You'd have to lend your entire 360. Also it's illegal and not official and sure you got the game great however you don't have the physical copy and don't truely own it. There's something about that which a modded device can't manage. And I'm not hating, I'm have pirated stuff before HOWEVER when a game or a piece of content is just above and beyond? It's best to have a physical copy. I'd pirate Southpark and family guy and thats cheap however I'd still condone and encourage buying the physical DVDs too. It's content worth having and preserving.
Honestly not trying to be "that guy", but some people like to buy their games honestly. I'm not judging, I'm simply pointing out that there are people that don't download games illegally.

Great video Pete. I'm glad I got my copy of Darkest of Days a few months back. I've been collecting 360 games for a while now so luckily I have most of what I really want for the system. Hopefully I can just get the last few games I want before more price increases and I can finally call my Xbox 360 collecting done. Thanks for making these videos.

I think the fact that these games are playable on newer hardware will drive prices even more and we’ll eventually see it pass PS3. Especially as time goes on and working PS3 hardware gets scarce. I think we’ve seen that already with Nintendo with hardware that plays older generations.

Great vid Pete. Luckily I have most of these already. I highly recommend Afro Samurai to anyone, it got a bunch of 5-6/10’s when it came out but is a genuinely awesome game.
The only games to get physically are the ones NOT backwards compatible. No point in games like Lost Odyssey if you already can buy it digitally for way cheaper when sales hit. I would appreciate a video on must-have games that are not BC before the 360 store shuts down in July.

Man, it always feels like if I stop paying attention to game prices for even just a month, all of a sudden things start blowing up. I’ve had Culdcept Saga on the back of my mind for a good while when it was in the $45-50 range, forgot about it, and now it’s far past what I would willingly pay. At least I picked up Wartech for cheap. Also thanks to your heads up I decided to just now order Enchanted Arms as I’ve always been curious about it and it’s BC yet delisted on the modern Xbox store.
This is why FOMO is getting out of hand. Random spikes of prices and yeah I don’t have a single Xbox 360 title on here and missed 2/4 even though I saw them at GameStop before. This video game economy is getting so stupid.
Part of it is FOMO and other part is TH-camrs like this artificially inflating game prices to help their collection and ultimately their reselling prices.

Stop selling there at the very least. I’ve been an active member since 2001 and the anti seller policies and fees have pushed me away the last few years. You can’t even really find good deals anymore since everyone online is an “expert” lol.

I also found blue dragon for $15 which is also up in price now about $60 for a CIB copy. Great finds while on a trip

You're looking at the lowest prices now, once these games go into the hands of collectors, most of the time they're gone from the market. Get it while you can for cheaper now
Your best best is to find the game at game shops and pawnshops before they catch on that the games prices have gone up

Some games you can't even find listings for. Fist of the North star 2 has 1 listing for $300 (got mine sealed for $90 a few months ago. Autobahn polizei has 0 listings.
Flea market by me had a few zoids assault copies but no manuals so I just got it on eBay. Probably would have been a good investment to pick them up.
I might have to hang onto the copy of Zoids Assault ( with manual) that i picked up in a charity shop here in the UK. I couldn't find much about it over here when I checked while in the shop but since it was only £3 I took the risk😅

Got most of what I wanted already thankfully your warnings helped. Got dragon ball Kinect for $40 and I am happy with that. I think the Kinect games will be hard to emulate so I kept the hardware and got all the games I think I might ever want to try for it.

I still own 447 X Box 360 games, it is my second biggest library of games per console. I haven't bought any additional games in a few years though, so maybe I should push that to at least 450 or even 500 just to get a nice round number.

The majority of the games I own I bought while the 360 was the current gen system, maybe about 7 were purchased during the Xbox One days and I haven't bought another one in about two years.
I'm trying to put together a list of games that I don't have, but still want so I can increase those numbers though. But I don't think there is anything I want so much that I will pay some crazy beyond retail price for it.

I've been collecting for the PS 3 and have seen prices going up .my some of my games have gone up by 30 dollars.
I would like to get some of them physically but I got Asura’s wrath for like $6 digitally and a physical copy of that is already like $60
I'm curious to see if the prices of these games will stay up after the closure of the xbox 360 marketplace. The PS3 shot up in price a couple of years ago I believe and the prices have been going down for a bit. For instance the average loose price for the ps3 games have pretty much plateau at 15$ for what we can see on Price Charting. The Nintendo 3DS average loose prices when as far as around 27 $ in 2023 and it's been going down since (it's at 24 $ right now). I do remember that both surge in prices we're caused by the closure of their respective live market place (Sony backdown from their decision to cut the PS3 online market place I know, but PS3 games when up in price anyway).
Which brings me to my point: the 3DS and the PS3 are a jokes to softmod. It's incredibly easy to play anything you want on them without soldering anything. I think that for a lot of people (including me) it play's an important role on wether I should collect or not from a console. If I need to have a physical copy to play a specific games, I might be more willing to spend the extra money for it out of desperation. Modding a Xbox 360 is a hasle for me: I do not have the place nor the knowledge to do it. Nobody in my groups of friends knows either and most shop that used to do it back in 2000s aren't doing it anymore. I don't even know a retro games store who let alone buy and sell Xbox 360 consoles.
So yeah, i'm curious to see if it's going to be a factor for the prices of Xbox 360 games going fowards. Especially those obscure games that we're made in small quantity and that they are not supported by the xbox one.

F1 2013. One of the things that makes it desirable. Its the first (and one of the few) to have a range of Historic F1 cars avaliable.
2013 was also the last year the F1 cars used naturally aspirated V8 engines. Not sure if that has any effect on the desirability.
Hey bro, like your TH-cam videos. I think why you are going to see Xbox 360 games going up in price, is due to the Xbox 360 becoming the new retro console now. It seems to happen with every console so far, so it does make some sense why the prices would spike up. Take care and God bless you.
I bought a CIB NTSC copy of F1 2013 on 9/29/2022 for $53.82.. A little later than I bought most of my stuff for the 360 and obviously resorted to getting that one online like I had to with some of the others that aren't as easy to find.. I'm currently just under 900 Unique games (891 to be exact) on the 360 and the vast majority were picked up locally over the past 15 or so years.. Not my absolute favorite console (That might be the SNES or Ps1) but One of my top 5 biggest game libraries for sure.
I think part of why NFS Most Wanted 2005 is as expensive as it is is because it’s the best unmodded version of the game, actually having better graphics and HD 16:9 support compared to PC which to this day is getting mods to port over some Xbox 360 graphical effects and textures. It also never released on PlayStation 3 so it’s the only 7th gen version of the game.

There are still a couple of games that i want to collect for the 360. Glad to have bought up Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata & Afro Samurai back when their cheap. But sadly my 360 rrod and searching up the code found out the fault is the faulty capacitor near the usb port. I still will be collecting the games though while i find a way to fix the console
F1 2013 is considered one of the best F1 games. it also is one of the few that has a really cool classic mode were you can play the old 80s F1 cars. so its like two F1 games in one.

The rise in price of the F1 games is probably since the F1 2012-2019 got delisted from digital storefronts during 2023, but it's still kind of weird to see Formula games going up in price so much since it's hard to imagine a lot of interest being in them.
So glad I accidentally started collecting for the 360 starting last year. I bought need for speed most wanted for £20.
Im surprised most wanted is that expensive. It was a game that got released for pretty much every system put there.
It's the only version on gen 7 as it released a year before the ps3. Also, many racing fans consider it to be the best NFS game of all time.

But Xbox 360 is literally the best version, it’s even better than the PC version. It has better textures, is HD in 16:9 which not even PC without mods is and has better graphical effects. I think the 360 version might even be running on a newer version of DirectX which also made modding in the 360 graphics on PC more complex and at least on my AMD GPU, really makes the game a lot more demanding. Then add in NFS fans still call it the best one and anyone with a 360 is going to want the 360 version.
It’s so different from country to country. That F1 2013 game can be found new for 40 bucks here. Maybe they made more copies here as F1 is more popular in Europe. But if it’s a general price climb it will eventually affect us too even if it may be different games that become very expensive.
F1 2013 was released very late rite before 2014 so it only sold little copies before they pulled it from the shelf

I have a sealed copy of Culdcept Saga. Among others that are still sealed and plan to stay that way.
Basically, why I have been thinking about getting out of collecting... I'm not paying $200 for an xbox 360 game, and the pricing gets to a point where you have to draw the line. When it doesn't feel right, its time to pay attention to your gut feeling no how much you love the hobby and let be real with a job I'm not going to be able to play most of these games. As time goes on, I constantly think maybe it's time to sell, and no matter how hard it is, one day it just might have to happen. The question is, when?

are all 360 games *actually* on the disc? when the servers are down or if one opened a NIB 360 & Game will the majority of 360 be able to function? I love physical media too but we need to be aware of the cutoff point where the games are not actually on the disc in a full, playable form.

Ps3, 360, ps4, and ps5 ALL have their entire game in the disc aside from very few games.

Prices of 360 games go crazy, in the US. Over here in PAL regions, those games go for a fraction of those prices. Most wanted is less then 20€ for instance.
I'm surprised that Driver: San Francisco is still under the $50 U.S. CIB mark on Pricecharting considering it's a legendary game that Ubisoft won't re-issue for automobile licensing reasons and, unlike most other XBox 360 driving games with licensed cars, Driver: San Francisco is backwards-compatible on XBox Series X.
I just started getting into collecting for 360. Cause it's honestly a great gen for gaming.
Games are definitely going up in price, but the 360 has such a great catalog..you can still find TONS of great games for cheap.
Not sure how it'll be in a few years from now, but now is definitely the time to get into it if you haven't already. Atleast to grab those heavy hitters titles you really want.
That F1 2013 price hike makes no sense.
Back when i was a teenager i owned web of shadows and shattered dinensions. Traded them in with a handful of other games. Boy do i regret that one

Actually been picking up 360 titles lately. Nothing amazing, but I got Blue Dragon and Armored Core 5 for $20 each.
I bought so many 360 games for $1-$10 a couple impulse buys were $20. KOF 13 was going for over $50 and just bought it on steam. I'm not playing the collectors game anymore. It's either Xenia or Steam if it's over $10 these days.
NFL Blitz The League II (CIB) is $80-$120 on eBay right now. That's a lot for a sports game.
I don't know much about F1 2013 but i do know that one of the reasons why it and f1 2014 are pretty expensive is because of them being delisted from the xbox store. F1 2013 for awhile was available on the xbox storefront but eventually got delisted and they didnt print very many physical copies for north America. now f1 2014 that game got delisted i think in 2020 or something and is backwards compat with the xbox series x and such so that one will definitely increase more as time goes on.
another crazy example of a price increase would be Blur for xbox 360,, for the longest time it was a $20-$25 game and now its pretty hard to find and going for $50+ now.
