- Investigating what causes the save notification to appear, which heroes can earn saves, and which heroes cannot.
CORRECTION: At 3:20 I demonstrate that Junker Queen does not earn saves under normal circumstances. She can, however, earn saves in a peculiar way: if JQ provides a teammate with overhealth just before that teammate is saved, she "steals" save credit. As an example, at 0:55 I demonstrate that Ana cannot earn a save on herself. If JQ provided this Ana with overhealth, JQ would earn a save. This also applies to Brig's ultimate.
Also not mentioned in the video, but worth noting: you cannot earn saves off of BOB.

Something I've noticed when playing Mercy is that the save message happens before the ressurrect. There have been times where I almost complete a ressurect but can't (either from a stun or from dying) yet still get the save message, although the teammate didn't end up getting revived.

I've had this exact thing happen many times
happens to me CONSTANTLY, Ive even had times when their body will start appearing but they still die. I have pretty crappy internet so from my experience ( I can't speak for you) but I'm pretty sure its because of my internet since this never happened when I had a better connection
It might be a latency issue. It's possible that saves are determined client-side, and resurrections are determined server-side.
I was ready to comment about that happening to me, too!
I’m glad they added the saved feature, it feels really good to have it pop up when you’re working hard to pump out those heals.
I just wish it actually meant something, like if the "on fire" system was still in place. Saving someone could have more value.
Or, since it's incredibly hard to get PotG as Support, create a SotG system and just clip the best save in the game between the 4 Supports.

I've gotten saves on Junker Queen before, although it is pretty rare. It's probably just inconsistent or caused by additional/alternate criteria.

I'll look into this -- I tried using shout on myself, shout on allies, and the adrenaline rush passive with no saves.
@@Marblr Contributing to this discussion, I've gotten a lot of JQ saves playing total mayhem, so I'm not sure if that would be the main factor.
Maybe she only gets save credit from shout when the victim is healed and saved that way? I think I've seen "saved by 2 players" a lot with a JQ on my team

I think I once saw that "Saved" pop up to me while playing Kiriko I used Protection Suzu to prevent a teammate to be killed by Junkrat's ult, but I didn't see Kiriko being mentioned here.
it was probably the 50 healing that the suzu provides. the game treats suzu’d players as intangible and therefore any damage that misses them doesn’t count towards saves
@@botatosalad1288 but then why would they get the saved message? The tire must have exploded during the invulnerability if the player survived (unless it was a tank, I suppose), and if that damage doesn’t count then the save damage/healing check would never even occur
@@TakadoGaming the save could have triggered from another source of damage. suzu’s intangibility lasts less than a second
I was wondering if you could go over potg and how it works. I've learnt many people don't realize killing someone in their ult, environmental kill(s), and saving your team from an ult can be worth more than any 4k play but it would interesting to see if exact values can be found.
That would be such a deep dive for all the conditions and values. I think it's even more complicated now because visual fire meter numbers were removed and there were specific things added like certain heroes having potg priority
this has always been on the backburner, but it is a very hard one to figure out through testing. never say never, though
@Marblr I feel the most difficult part would be if all the different ways have set values or it differs depending on conditions (such as an environmental kill with targets at different health values or roles and if killing certain characters in ult like zen would give more than say genji). Appreciate the deep dive content still.
Probably complicated process, unless you're Zen or Moira, in which case you have a 80% chance of getting play regardless of what you were doing
@@charKT-7461 It's alway fun to get a potg as zen where you accidentally kill a 1hp squishy and throw 2 discords at people who are about to die.
The save system is such a good way too motivate support players, it's like a thanks from the saved without it being conscious of it (usually due to being engrossed in combat)

I actually managed to earn a save as Junker Queen. I used shout next to a healer that was low and it counted since they were also passively healing.

Lifeweaver added a new special save case to the game. If a Teammate takes damage in Life Grip that could’ve killed them, you get a save. Strangely this isn’t the same for Zarya bubbles.

I just want to point out that Lúcio's overheal gave shield health in OW1 and Brigitte's overheal gave armor health. Even though they merged them into green overhealth, I'd bet they're still coded separately.

Sound Barrier has been a special case for a while now, as it's the only Overhealth that provides ult charge when hit.

I remember one game on circuit royale where I was junker queen, I used commanding shout and got a save for a reaper. Idk if it was something to do with reapers life steal but the save icon definitely appeared

I could have SWORN I earned a save as JunkerQueen with a well timed shout on a teammate.
Well I don't know if they changed it in this new season , but I do remember being able to save teammates with junker queen's shout ability because I do remember one time when my teammate survived a visor soldier by using my shout ability, so they either have changed it or it have specific conditions that it needs to meet to able to save a teammate as jq
Sometimes Sombra really is the main healer in the team.
I love the addition of saves in OW2. Makes supporting that much more rewarding. I just wish they would be tracked on the career profile.

3:25 Yes it does. Once I was slammed into a wall by a Reinhardt as Junker Queen used her scream and it appeared to me as "saved by Junker Queen"
I thought the save sound was just the end of mercy's rez I didn't even realize it was linked to the save
For a closed-source game, you’re pretty damn good at these.
I get saves as JQ pretty consistently, even when not trying to - her criteria must be pretty different but it's certainly not rare or a bug, I usually get more than one a match.

It's also worth mentioning that the 'rez save timing isn't actually granted when the player is resurrected, It's done at some point right before the resurrection is completed. I've had multiple instances of playing mercy where I nearly completed a rez, getting the saved notification for the player I was going to rez, but got killed milliseconds before it would have completed, and the player wasn't actually rez'ed. Quite peculiar.

the 2 second window seems pretty generous. I don't know there's something comical in the video when lucio drops the beat and then cassidy has enough time to line up a shot and fire on reaction but lucio still saved the teammate. Like the cass is somehow like "darn almost got them" after shooting into all that green health

There is actually a Mercy bug where client-side it will sometimes give you a "saved teammate" pop-up when you die at the very end of rez (and the teammate isn't rezzed). However, the pop-up doesn't show up on replays and there is no save added to Mercy's "number of saves" stat for the match.
