AJBB My two cents besides the obvious tools and vise would be: peacock herl, pheasant tail, partridge, grizzly hackle, various dubbing colors, tungsten beads, small copper wire, deer hair, and ep fibers (or poly yarn). You can probably tie most dry flies and nymphs with those materials. As you tie, you'll naturally amass a ridiculous amount of tying materials as you "fill in the gaps" of what you need. A beginners starter pack of tying materials isn't a bad idea either, and it generally supplies you with the aforementioned basics.

The idea is to not disrupt the tail of the fly with the first wrap of copper wire. Since this fly is to be counter wrapped, I tie in the wire on the near side. For a normally wrapped rib (say over a dubbed body), I'll tie in the wire on the far side of the hook. There will be an Orvis Tips and Techniques video on the concept shortly.

Sounds great. These also look pretty good with a hot spot thread color, the UV resin kinda magnifies the thread.
