I know your frustration Alan . I drove over there from the North East a year ago and the road was closed then . Unfortunately my wife and daughter were also in the car so I had to apologise for my language!! Anyway another great video and keep doing what you’re doing. Cheers.
Sorry to hear that but the funny thing was, when I drove back I went the correct way back and everything was cleared, I must have hit on the last morning :o(. I was annoyed at the time but did not spoil a great day out, well, apart from the long drive back home lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Dang, that was a lot of driving. At least it was free parking. Well that was quite the adventure. Nice job on the miles and route. Beware of the shortcuts! I've taken a few that did not turn out too well. LOL. Fun to do the treasure hunt and leave one behind. Great trip and beautiful views all around. I thought you were going to blow away though. It was windy! Congrats on your day. Take care.
It was super windy but a nice cooling breeze, so cool I did not feel the sun and despite slapping on the Factor 50, it was too late, I was burnt to a crisp when I got home lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Glad you like them and a great day out, long drive to get there and even longer to get back home again due to traffic but I still have a real fun day out. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
It was a long day and a tough day for me but I always enjoy it, especially when you get the good weather too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hello from Naples, Florida. Very nice hike, awesome colors and views of the countryside. Thanks for sharing the amazing views with us, have a great week 👍 💯 ❤
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Gorgeous place here Alan, shame about the wind but then it was sunny as well 🙂 Took you a while to get there so it was a shame you had to do a detour as well as a 10 mile walk! Loved the wildflowers as you walked, and a cute story of your grandson singing :) So much history around here and with amazing views, very interesting place just a shame about the bogs. Haha loved Mrs M hiding her face, we do the same 🤭 Its nice that you get to meet so many people out walking and you are always so happy to chat to them which I'm sure they appreciate. Oo buried treasure is always fun to hear about but a shame you found none, nice that you left some though, like you said, fun for the kids to find 😃 Such a long but lovely day and the sound of water as you walked down was so relaxing. Great to watch and Strava is great 👍~ Anna
Thanks very much for watching and the Strava info too, I must start using that instead of OS Maps, which is starting to let me down sadly. The wind was welcome as it was a cooling breeze but it was only when I got in the valley and the wind died out, I realised how hot it was, so slapped on the Factor 50 just in time, although I was red when I got home, cheers Alan
Great walk Alan. Diversions are always a pain. Good parking spot. All to your self. Nice to have a little stop on the way. Boggy round that style. Bet it is wetter in the winter. Not wrong with the views. Stunning lunch spot. Steady now. No broken legs while on a pee stop. The moral is don’t stop on the A1. Gotta watch the sunburn mate on your delicate skin. Good to see you getting a bit of sun up north. Not much down here. Take a right and hit the beast. Always watch right through mate. No skipping here. No stone circle today. Great walk mate. Enjoyed watching with my morning coffee. Have a great week. Catch you again soon. 👍🏻
Appreciate you watching and all the way as well, I know it was a long video but long or short, very few watch all the way. The wind masked how strong the sun as and so pleased I slapped on the Factor 50 when I did as I was like a burnt crisp when I got home, so should have had it on earlier. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Real pleased you enjoyed it and it was a real good day out, longer than I was expecting, especially the walk back through the valley, which seemed to be never ending. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Another great hike and video, Alan, and sympathies about the car journey. I'm one of the stalwarts who watched to the end and felt your pain on the walk back. Your pace is a strength as we get to hear great stories! When you need to go you gota go. I really loved the views over Ennerdale which really stirred the memories for me and one of our best ever days hiking. Navigation is always a challenge and sometimes sticking to the plan is best, but detours are learning experiences and you've learnt so much. Regards, Ashley
I normally keep my videos quite short but a few people have said they prefer longer, with one lad saying "I sat down with a cup of tea to watch and it was finished before I drank me tea" , so maybe keep some of the stuff in I normally cut out, I always thought less was more but with YT, who knows. I am going to give OS Maps one more try, I have deleted all the maps I have created and recreated them again, then downloaded to the new phone to see it that was the issue. Haha, yes, all true stories as well. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN You've gone all Black Crag with the long videos!! Don't mis pronounce the words though!! I think longer is fine for me, your hard core followers will love it but not all think like me. I follow a guy over here and his videos are typically 50 mins and its too long. If it's quality people will watch and stay with it. As for the stories, you've a life time to share so go for it. Here's a question for you about youtube, why do we have so many subscribers and only a fraction watch each video? What do you do to attract more watchers and subscribers? sorry, thats 2 questions!! Looks like a nice warm day there in that beautiful scenery. You really are going on some long hikes. I love that you have so many mountains there. What a Treasure!!! That sure makes hiking fun! I'm bingewatching your vids. I hope I get a comment on each🤩
Oh thank you and wind apart it was a great days hiking and real fun t leave some 'gold' coins behind (hopefully) for some kids to find. I always leave a comment for people who have kindly watched my video, something I enjoy :o). Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, a beautiful blue sky, just perfect for treasure seeking! 🪙🪙It was lovely to see the purple heather and the lush greenery. "A bit blowy" turned out to be an understatement! 😬😂 The lake views were spectacular. Great drone footage. You are really brave doing these walks on your own. Stay safe and take care. Thanks for another brilliant video ❤
I have to admit that I have never burned so many calories in my life, not even when I was running a marathon. You spent long but beautiful day in the nature, the views are fantastic. The weather was nice although the wind can be unpleasant. I'm not surprised that you didn't find the treasure, but it's nice that you left something behind. I'm sure the children will enjoy it☺️
Well done on the marathon, the most I ever did has half marathon's but had to stop them when my knees told me no more - that's when I took up hiking. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Aye it was canny, bit on the breezy side but when you get a day with full sun all day, you are always happy in the lakes. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real nice of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
@AlanMETALMAN We would like to do more dramatic scenery but we're a long way from the lakes and Wales etc. if you get a chance to take a look at ours it could be much appreciated 🙂 you have a nice easy manner in front of a camera
What a beautiful day out. Love the views and the breeze. Definitely put in a days work on this one. Should have stopped off for a fish and chips on your way home. You deserve it. Stay safe my friend and as always I look forward to the next one. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it and I had to drive right passed Popeyes on the way back, about 5 miles from home, so a nice big BBQ Chicken Burger was my rewards lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Looked a good day for it Alan, bar that wind. Sounded a bit ferocious. I enjoyed this walk when I did it as there were very few people around. You could never get tired of those views over Ennerdale water and it looked nice and blue on your visit. Maybe I need to do the round again to find some treasure. That walk back after Lank Rigg seems to take forever and you mentioning the river/stream crossings reminded me I had to go up stream for a better crossing at one point. No herd of cows tho on your walk so that's a win 🙂
A real nice walk, one I really enjoyed but man that wind was strong but a cooling wind but it did me no favours as it masked the strength of the sun. Despite slapping on Factor 50 in the afternoon, I was burnt to a crisp when I got back home. Appreciate you stopping by, cheer Alan
Nice hike, beautiful countryside. I had always thought that there wasn’t much open countryside in the UK but after watching your videos I see there is lots of open space in your area. I understand the Friday afternoon traffic because we have it here on Fridays. I see why you need maps because I don’t see many trail signs. Thanks for sharing the video.
Glad you enjoyed it and real pleased I took it easy in the end, as it was about 18,00 I was heading home, so had a quiet journey back home, which I enjoyed. Real good of you to stop by, always appreciated, cheers Alan
Hello Alan! Good tour, you have to go so far in the sun, no matter how windy it was. As always ... beautiful views, but I think the beer sat well in the end. Cheers. Sretana and Zac. 🍻
Glad you enjoyed it and that wind masked a very warm sun, I should have put my Factor 50 on earlier, as I was burnt to a crisp when I got home but still a very enjoyable day out. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan...we did that route many years ago...i will never forget it because my wife fell into the river...we still chuckle about it today...i have always called it Kinniside, don't ever recall anyone calling it Blakeley raise...i always use Strava, never had a problem.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the info, especially on Strava, OS Maps is doing my nut in at the moment. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Linda and did that exact walk last year, except we camped on crag fell for the night. Great views and as you said even better just along the fell a bit. I didnt know about the treasure on Lank Rigg though. On our way down the valley towards the end a chap coming the other way did a large diversion round us rather than speak - very unusual. All the best, Roger
Oh I have had them too, nobody for miles and this this guy walked passed me, so close you almost brushed passed each other, I said "How you doing" and he never said a thing just kept on walking! I turned around and just burst lout laughing, cannot believe some people. It was so windy when I was on Crag Fell I had to hold my camera with two hands, blowing an absolute gale but still great views. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Glad you enjoyed it and a long drive there and back but well worth it in the end, despite getting sunburnt lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Glad you enjoyed it David and real good Fells too, a bit boggy in parts so pick a dry spell but all very enjoyable to do. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, Really enjoyed seeing you get out to the lakes again to bag another 3 glorious wainwright's. Loved the path 'into the woods we go' at the start. What a gorgeous day you got, bit windy, but the visibility was superb ⛰️ 👌. Chuckled at your stories along the way, particularly the ditch fall😂🙈. Hope the long drive home went off without too many delays, it certainly looked well and truly worth it though. Full watch from us (part of a select group😂👊). Great stuff! All the best, Shell and Pete 😊👍
Thanks very much for watching and a full watch too lol. Thankfully as it was about 17.00 when I got back to the car the traffic was nice and quiet on the way back, which was a massive relief. Cheers Alan
Great views. We were counting how many layers/ changes you had 😂. Know the feeling though as I'm always boiling, then soon as I stop the sweat pours, then I feel the chill! I've used strava for years and years. Just the free version for walking and cycling 🚲. It's handy for checking distance, routes etc, and probably a whole lot more that I don't bother with 👍
Sounds great and if OS Maps bombs out again I will be getting something else, something more reliable too. haha, yes, I had 4 layers on, as I knew it was going to be windy but I ended up getting burnt to a crisp, should have put my Factor 50 on earlier in the day lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Brilliant hike Alan perfect day apart from that wind 🌬️ But views 🤩👌🏻 Feel your story for getting up and down scarfell unscathed! Nearly rolled my ankle the other day in the garden thanks to a mole 😱 (can happen any where ) Great film 🏔️🏔️👍 as always thanks for bringing us along mate Simon 🤠🏔️👍
Thanks very much for watching Simon and you got that right I remember going to the Lakes in December about 5 years about in -7C, took 2 steps from the car, stood on black ice and fell flat on my face - great way to start the day lol, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, wonderful mate, what a stunning day you had for it. Three I’ve yet to do. I was up in the Lakes on Friday, had a similar day weather wise. Warm, sunny and blowing a hooley! Looking forward to doing these three. I’m rather fond of a valley walk at the end once all the hard work has been done. All the best mate 😀🥾⛰
Yes, it was Friday I was in the lakes too and a wonderful day but that wind was masking a real warm sun as well, real pleased I slapped on the factor 50 in the afternoon, only slightly burnt. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Haha, when you get to my age you have no choice lol. Grike by itself is a great walk up through the woods and on the same path too then turn off for the summit, its about an hour and a quarter at my speed, which is slow. The best views of the day were on the second fell, which was just a short but boggy up and down but the views over Ennerdale Water were superb and a great place to camp too. Take care and thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan.
An outstanding video Alan. Have to agree with you on the coming colder weather, not looking forward to it. Here in SW Virginia there is a state park(Grayson Highlands) with several wild ponies.
I was real surprised to see them and even more surprised when I got back and saw them again, real pleased my car was in one piece too lol. I hope you are well, take care and thanks for stopping by, cheers Alan
Great views. Just wish we had better pics on the ponnies. At least the Beast had some company while you walked in the mud. Haha. Remember when I had horses and it was muddy. The thing was you couldn't stop in it, cause then it shouldn't let your shoe/boots leaving their "hug". So I do get that struggle. Hope the other map version works better. Updates can be so assy! And yes... me and my porridge watched the end of the video! Soon time heading to work and it's pitch black here. Stay safe Alan and wish you and Mrs Metalman a great week. Cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
I am a morning person, so have no problem getting up at 04.00 but prefer to see the sun and the temperature rising, its a pull when it is dark and no heating on - brrrrr. I wish the GoPro had a zoom, as the ponies were great, real unexpected as well but when they all started going passed my car I thought - oh no lol. Good of you to watch al the way through, not many do, so thank you :o). Cheers Alan
Great vid Alan. A hike we’ve been planning for while, but like you it’s a trek over there. Think we’ll pick it up next time we stop at Keswick Reach. We’ve never been to Ennerdale water. However got a peek of it when doing Haystacks and it looked amazing. Tell you what A-J would love to find those doubloons ❤ We always look forward to your vids and it’s great now with your mid week reviews too. How many Wainwrights are you on now ? Add that to your questions 👍🏻 Take care and look forward to the next one
Funny enough, I was thinking of booking Keswick Reach for 4 days as a last minute deal if the weather was forecasted good, so I could knock off a few more of the Weston Fells and its 35 minutes away from where I parked for this one - I checked. Ennerdale Water is great and been down there a few times in mixed weather but the road down it a mare, got to be the narrowest road I have ever travelled on, you can feel the grass on each side of the road brushing your car doors, it's that narrow in places, so if you go there make sure it is early.. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Nice 1 Alan some of the lesser known ones are the best, I've done some 17 mile hikes and never missed a step then 20 yards from the car I'll trip over nothing into a full barrel roll 😂 keep up the good work
Haha, I know what you mean, I had a herma operation about five years ago and the first hike out afterwards, I took 2 steps from the car, stood on black ice and fell flat on my face lol. Thank goodness there was nobody there to see it! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi, Alan. What's a long journey to your destinations! The weather is on your side with bit strong winds. The views at each destination are remarkable, especially looking down the lake. Enjoy your victory! Don't forget to clean your boots, haha. Please allow me to compose a short, vague, and boring comments for a while due to the conflict with yt getting worse after I came back home from the celebration of Mr. K's BD. Thank you for your patience. My views are nothing less than my best.
I hope you enjoyed your celebration and yes it was a long way to drive for me, which is why I always have to get up at 04.00, hard in the winter when it is dark and cold but I always enjoy the hike I do. Real good of you to stop by, cheers Alan
Bit behind with these but will catch up sometime. Nice to hear you mention the Red Pike video as that was one of the first ones I watched before leading a group up there. Also Pillar haha I still followed your route in spite of the warnings ... tough but absolutely amazing once you got out of the woods haha Bit of a different terrain for these ones but still a wonderful route with awesome views over Ennerdale. Didn't look like there were many folks around but sounded like you got some good chats 👍 Long way for you to travel so take care 🤗 x Oh meant to say how lovely of you to leave the "gold" I'd heard about that and so nice to keep up the tradition .. I'd still be thrilled to find that haha & I'm no youngster 🤣😃
It was a really nice sunny day but man that wind was strong, never stopped my enjoying the hike mind but that sure was one long walk back though the valley at the end. Brave of you to to Pillar from Ennerdale, as I remember we walked of 5 miles before we even started to climb and we were doing 4 summits, a real tough day indeed. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Smashing video Alan and it looks so lovely there! Have you thought about getting a Garmin watch, plotting your route on their site and having it on the watch? Their maps are great!
Yes I have, then look at the price and forced to think again - yikes! I am getting fed up with OS Maps, used them for years without issue, then they had a massive update about 6 months ago and had nothing but problems since, so I will give Strava a go I think. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Brilliant alan what a day and the wind does get very welcoming sometimes not for the 2 hand camera hold tho 😂 but the views there from the second one Brilliant marra I've never heard of these ones so I will be sure to look for them valuable coins but please next time make it beer 😂 then that would be a race for me i showed a littler filter I use can't remember which vlog but it's a msr trail shot and it's great for them low water moments you can just drop it in any water supply and drink away think they about 50 quid but I love it mate really handy shame about the wind for the drone that would have made a great shot down onto the lake class show of these and the short cut 😂😂😂😂 yes love it cheers marra
It's funny, three Fells that nobody bothered filming before and now everyone is filming them, with me being late to the party as well but still a cracking day out, apart from all the driving. that wind was strong but it was real cooling, as that sun was really warm, I was burnt when I got back home. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I also once did Pillar and Steeple from Ennerdale, but the road to the Bowness Knott car park was closed so I had to park at the end of the lake. It was probably the toughest walk I've ever done in the Lake District. I ended up walking 15 miles and was exhausted for the next few days. Far better to start from Wasdale Head and head up Black Sail Pass and over Looking Stead, although that's also a hard days walk.
We did just over 13 miles and 4 summits and I was running in fumes at the end of the day, so I do not know how you managed the extra mileage but great effort! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN By the way, it was good to meet you on Pike o' Blisco yesterday . Thought I should catch up on some of your other videos seeing as I told you I hadn't watched the channel for a while. Keep up the good work. Dave
@@davidchippendale2553 - Haha right, yes it was good to bump into you yesterday and what a great day it was too. My video of that hike will be out on Sunday at 14.00 and you do make a very slight appearance. Take care :o)
Good day out, long day out and surprisingly warm as well, that wind masked the heat. Real pleased I slapped on the Factor 50 when I did as I was real sore when I got home. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, 3 more wainwrights bagged what does that put you on, long old drive to the western fells all you need is road closed signs, at least you avoided forgetting your go-pro, great views of Ennerdale lake, shame about to windy for the drone, best sight of any long walk is the car cheers nigel
Thanks very much for watching and 25 I think, just waiting on my mate emailing me what we actually did when we camped for a couple of nights in Wasdale in the mid 1990s. Him and his mate were doing all the Wainwrights at the time, I just went along for the ride, beers and a bit of camping and climbing but at the time, not really interesting in Wainwright bagging. I will still do them again as I want a video record of them all, cheers Alan

Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
amazing footage my friend
Thanks for the visit John, good of you, cheers Alan
Absolutely beautiful scenery and very well filmed and edited as usual , cheers pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Glad you enjoyed it and a long drive there and back but well worth it in the end, despite getting sunburnt lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Smashing Video Alan, with great views over Ennerdale from Crag Fell. Not done these three either so made for a good watch. ATB David
Glad you enjoyed it David and real good Fells too, a bit boggy in parts so pick a dry spell but all very enjoyable to do. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan,
Really enjoyed seeing you get out to the lakes again to bag another 3 glorious wainwright's.
All the best,
Shell and Pete 😊👍
Thanks very much for watching and a full watch too lol. Thankfully as it was about 17.00 when I got back to the car the traffic was nice and quiet on the way back, which was a massive relief. Cheers Alan
Missed it Sunday but a great Tuesday watch 🙌
@@creggymusic7009 - thank you, real nice of you, appreciate it, cheers Alan
Brilliant hike Alan perfect day apart from that wind 🌬️
But views 🤩👌🏻
Feel your story for getting up and down scarfell unscathed! Nearly rolled my ankle the other day in the garden thanks to a mole 😱 (can happen any where )
Great film 🏔️🏔️👍
as always thanks for bringing us along mate
Simon 🤠🏔️👍
Thanks very much for watching Simon and you got that right I remember going to the Lakes in December about 5 years about in -7C, took 2 steps from the car, stood on black ice and fell flat on my face - great way to start the day lol, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN oh no 😣 felt that one mate
Like 65 👍 💯 ❤
Thank you :o)
Great video 😊👍
Thanks for the visit, appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Great vudeo as always Alan. I need to do Grike! Looked like a great walk. Btw, I agree, when you gotta go you gotta go lol 😂
Tell you what A-J would love to find those doubloons ❤
We always look forward to your vids and it’s great now with your mid week reviews too.
How many Wainwrights are you on now ? Add that to your questions 👍🏻
Take care and look forward to the next one
Funny enough, I was thinking of booking Keswick Reach for 4 days as a last minute deal if the weather was forecasted good, so I could knock off a few more of the Weston Fells and its 35 minutes away from where I parked for this one - I checked. Ennerdale Water is great and been down there a few times in mixed weather but the road down it a mare, got to be the narrowest road I have ever travelled on, you can feel the grass on each side of the road brushing your car doors, it's that narrow in places, so if you go there make sure it is early.. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
cheers for letting us know Alan 👍🏻 there’s some decent prices for Keswick reach in October.
Beautiful day! A bit muddy in places though. 😁
Yes it was and very windy too which masked the strong sun, which burnt me.
@@AlanMETALMAN yeah cracking views tho marra love it ennerdale water is spectacular more so on a clear day
I also once did Pillar and Steeple from Ennerdale, but the road to the Bowness Knott car park was closed so I had to park at the end of the lake.
37:08 I'll wait for the next bus ..... 37:50 Now that look's good .... 40:25 Pub time.
2400 calories burnt thats great Alan - just another 1000 and that's a pound of body fat...lol
Haha, that would be about one of 20 pounds I need to lose :o)
