I have converted almost entirely to sub 250 quads. I own around 20 or so! I love them and have quite a few 5" that are gathering dust on the shelf. There is nothing wrong with the big quads other than the Government and FAA requirements and soon to be required additions in order to fly. I have these little suckers from 1S to 6S. Some are very fast and maneuverable!

Man I am so jealous lol I am all about sub250 and being fairly new to the hobby I love the sound and the way bigger quads handle but with the regulations it's just not what I want including all the "KARENS" that wanna call the cops as soon as they see you take to the air lol so sub 250 is my fav sounds like you have my dream collection lol stay safe and keep rippin👍🏽✌🏽

Great series! I recently built a cruxula, combining by two favorite small 2S quads. Took the crux3 camera, canopy and FC, added ELRS EP2 and put it on a sailfly-x frame using the motors from my mobula7 with 2.5" bi-blade props. I really, really like it as a yard flier. Makes the yard seem a little bigger than when using a crux3 and still performs well. It does have your hated 1mm motor shafts though Nick. And I prefer a bottom mounted battery on quads 3.5" and below because I think the "throw" weight from the battery location makes them handle a bit more like a full sized quad, at least to me.

I've got a kabob spec-built 65mm (2.5") toothpick from his early development days just before the TP3 came out and that thing flies fantastic. I switched to DJI on most of my quads about the same time as that build was finished so it's been sitting on the shelf ever since. I plan to digi-fi the TP3 that I have at some point but IDK if doing the same with the 2.5" is worth the trouble considering the effect the added weight from a naked vista will have on the much smaller disc area of a 2.5". Might be worth a go though.

There is 2 micros I have been flying recently that I have completly fallen in love with. The NBD Mosquito and the NBD Mosquito XL. The Mosquito is made for 40mm props but will fit a 2" (50mm) prop no problem. And the Mosquito XL is made for 65mm props (2.5"). The frames are very thick carbon so I believe they will never break, and they have ok motor protection at the ends of the arms. The thing is they are both made for 3 screw motors, baisicly 1s whoop motors. I run my XL with 1102 18000kv betafpv motors on 1s and it really has a good amount of power and punch. On my standard Mosquito I've run both the 1102 18000kv and 0802 25,000kv motors, and I like the 25,000kv motors for the props that I run. I run the HQ 50mm 2" props, and gemfan just came out with some 2015 2" props that I will be testing soon. Both quads I'm using the happymodel ELRS aio boards so the range is baisicly unlimited. Runcam nano cams, 1s 450mah and 525mah. Keep the weight as light as possible and they fly amazing. ✌️✌️

My other 2" is the gnarlyfpv Meemo with Zero canopy, 1102 18000kv.

    Hi Nick,
I have the analog phantom and have had trouble with blowing motors (3s 650 battery) - 2 motors total happened on two occasions - I fly with 3 blade props though (HQT2.5V2s on analog) - I have put a throttle limit on at 85% and use 3s 450 battries on this one now - all fine.
I also have an HD version with 1106 motors (from an old betafpv95xv3) flies great and I have just recieved t motor 1404 4510kv motors for the next Phantom HD build (or smart 25 as I think they are called now) I have 2X more frames on the way- I like these quads!!.
The phantom in both versions is amazing and sooo quiet - I have tested various props with a db meter and I think the 3 bladed (Gemfan D63 2.5) are quieter than the standard 2 blades.

I was all set to get the digital GepRC Cinelog25, but the $350-ish price had me stalled! I found my second choice, the digital BetaFPV 95X V3 on sale for only $175 shipped from a USA dealer, so I couldn't resist that HALF PRICE of the GepRC quad deal. It came with the Nebula Nano V2 camera and Nick, you're correct, people shouldn't be afraid of that camera as it's been fixed to get rid of about 90% of the V1's issues. It's so much better than analog, well, why am I even saying that, anything digital is far, FAR superior...
Here's the key to that purchase: Chris Rosser has a full video on tuning the 95X V3, and boy ole boy does he do a great job of tuning that quad! It came with what appeared to be a stock tune of Betaflight, which wasn't making it fly very good at all. Switched to that Rosser tune and Damn!! if it doesn't fly PER-FECT! I had it flying up about 20 feet into a thick grove of oak trees, flying right through the scraggle and ghost branches of the tree canopy! Weaving back and forth through the tiny holes... Through barely a 1' x 1' tiny holes, through all sorts of ghost branches that were very clearly visible with the AWESOME image clarity that DJI's digital system gives us! Such a breakthrough in FPV ability, as I would never even think of flying through a tree's canopy of tiny branches with analog. Well, quite frankly, analog can't even attempt flying like that. Hard to fly my analog quads now! I still like them, but not the image quality they give.
Anyway, if you can pick up a 95X V3 for a great deal, go to Chris Rosser's channel and get his amazing tune and enjoy how it's supposed to fly!!! =(:^)-

I just ordered the frame and UZ85 kit (sans receiver) because I have a couple of JHEMCU SP24S ELRS receivers with ceramic antenna laying around. Any placement advice of the receiver you can offer is great. Have had mixed results retrofitting the same receiver into open space in the canopy behind the camera on another build which was the emax nanohawk x (I think I may be reducing VTX range).

To my knowledge and little experience there doesn't seem to be much risk, many many I have heard from are running naked. the upside is increased agility/quick response, longer flights due to less weight. the downside is the manual cleaning, less weight for "throw" moves and shorter flights.

It didn't make my list, I only had the analog and in 2inch category I prefer others. For me in 2inch with prop protection is primarily for inside flight. Maybe not for all but for me.

Interesting I had a C85HD and I actually swapped it over to a CineRace20 frame and motors. The C85 didn't fly nearly as well as my cinerace20, might have been just bad luck. I'm enjoying the cinerace20 much more than the C85 that I now have the BnF one and the one I swapped.

Is yours the dji/air unit version?

@@NickBurnsFPV Yeah both of them were. The BnF was a DJI with polar nano. The C85 was a DJI unit also before I switched it over to the cineRace20 frames and motors. Now those cinerace20s with that weight is not going to do the crazy stuff you do with whoops, but it's fairly good as a setup for doing some nice cinematic flying with an insta360 go2 or my iflight goCam 4K (the smo4K clone) on it and getting like 6-8 minutes with an 850 4s.

I have 2 TKS frame and 2 Phamtom Frame that i bought last year after participing in IGOW3. I follow your video and made the transition my MOBULA6 HD to MOBULA 7 V3 Frame (lot of fun), I build a 85 mm IFLIGHT WHOOP DIY with the FLYWOO GOKU F4 13amp with Runcam nano split 3, my great build ever. I would like to get deeper in the hobby but my enviroment don't like to much drone, and the regulation FAA Part 107 and so. Nick I think I gonna fly In Tinywhoop Go simulator with my jumper T-PRO (I prefer the Zorro) and indoor with 65mm and 75mm. maybe make a give away of all the boxes sub 250 that I have. i think in my case 65mm and 75mm is the best way to have fun in peace...

You shouldn't need a 107 unless your planning to make business out of the drone flights in some way.
