  • Beautiful to look at and its timber has a scent like sandalwood. But be careful. If you inhale its smoke, you'll be running for the toilet in double quick time! This is the Tamboti tree, Spirostachys africana - found in the Limpopo basin of Southern Africa. Full of magical mystery, known for its medicinal properties, and spectacular in its autumnal colours. In this episode, Gus Le Breton (the African Plant Hunter) shares with us some of the folklore around this tree while visiting the magnificent Gonarezhou National Park in southern Zimbabwe.

    Gus, great clip - appreciate the close ups of the leaves, the profile of the tree and the specific ID characteristics, they should be a big help in finding a Tamboti in Gonarezhou next month - Covid permitting!

    Hey Gus I was camped under a tree that seemed remarkably similar to a Tambuti in Kazuma last month, any thoughts as to what it could have been?

      Thanks for sharing. It's very unlikely to have been a Tambuti. Did you get any photos? I'm intrigued!

      @@AfricanPlantHunter yes I’m embarrassed to say it was a silver leaf terminalia. The biggest I have ever seen and the only one with green leaves in the area. All the rest were shrub sized and had the traditional silver leaves

    Is there this tree in kasane

    • @AfricanPlantHunter
      @AfricanPlantHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, this tree is only found in the south-eastern part of southern Africa. So you won't be seeing it in Kasane, unless someone has specifically planted it there!

      @@m.anderson4340 I don't know what the exact vegetation around Pinetown looks like, but you'll definitely find this tree in many areas of KZN, so I'd expect so.
