- Throughout history, technology has been at the forefront of our development, changing the way we live and protect citizens. The nation's skies need to be secure to achieve this, which is why the US military has unveiled plans to implement a project that has been kept secret for years. This project stretches the boundaries of aeronautical engineering and goes beyond what we ever imagined.

What they don't say is the SR-71 was designed and built without the aid of computers. It was designed and built with Protractors, Slide Rules and Coffee. Today's engineers can't hold a candle to these guys.
My great grandpa was involved in building the SR71
Why? Are they flammable?
oh yes we can& exceed their theoretical material stress limits, sir!

Calling the SR-71 a fighter is totally inaccurate.
YF-12, interceptors, they built 3.
@@williamvoorhees8201 Correct. And as I said: 'However, as interceptors, they were not fighters and therefore couldn't turn like one. Instead they released their missiles at some distance and given their launch speed the target acft couldn't evade them. In essence it was akin to trying to evade a bullet being shot at you.'
it fought communism, bro
I definitely respect the awesome engineering work and I have walked around two of them parked nose to nose in Palmdale CA. They are incredible even up close. But they were designed as a surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. They were incredibly fast and had state-of-the-art cameras. American engineering at its finest.
correct
As my uncle who was Air Force Intelligence for over 25 years and then with security for Los Alamos and Sandia Labs told me, "If they are showing you an aircraft, it is because they have something better available and something better than that in development."
yup, if you see it ''in the media'' it's already replaced 2x over with another superduper better more better one on the prototype testing stage...... something like that... ;)
still I have a fond place for the BLACKBIRDS for some reason... ;) super sleek sliver they FORCE thru the air .... sigh
Let us pray that concept is still a reality!
That’s true he is 100% right
What i don't get is that in this video they show 2 different planes, one with a single vertical stab and one with dual stabs, do which is it?
Your uncle is correct. If public see a plane it has been replaced to the people...
The SR-71 is not a fighter, it is a reconnaissance platform. As the name implies (Strategic Reconnaissance). Its only defense is its altitude and speed capabilities.
You thinking YF 12A the brother of the SR71!!
@@GlennMacarthurI’m pretty sure the SR-71 had no weapons.
@@starbugmechanic5236 the AR-12 was armed and had one pilot!!
@@GlennMacarthur ok
I was in air defense for 8 years and I can assure you the SR-71 was recon only. No weapons aboard.
For 20+ years I worked in TV news as a reporter and producer. In that time, I learned that governments disclose only 25 - 30% of what they are actually doing.
while the SR 71 was built by engineers in their time, the SR 72 is built by the bloggers of our time..
The SR71 and SR72 are not fighter aircrafts. They are reconnaissance aircrafts. They are fast but not very maneuverable as true fighters such as the F22, F35, F15, F16, and F18. They are not made for dog fights.

The Darkstar is equipped with armaments
@@michaelmickoberhaus8009 The SAR-72 Darkstar is a hypersonic UAV concept intended for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and as such has no armaments. And Lockheed expects an SR-72 test vehicle could fly by 2025.
@@cassiespencer6134 is already flying
@@michaelmickoberhaus8009 At present it remains a classified program and as far as I know it has yet to fly. And even if it were it most likely wouldn't be in the public domain for some time.
I was fortunate enough to see the last flight of the SR71 now on static display on Lacland AFB while standing on top of a C5 Gallaxy on the runway of Kelley AFB. She had a low speed fly by, a high speed, then she landed on Kelley for the last time before being taken to static display.
Whoever wrote this exaggerated, hyper-positive copy for this aircraft should get an academy award!

@@fredguarino7527 This copy was probably written by someone in the Pentagon, except one wonders if there is anyone in the Pentagon with that much intelligence...
The award is a world record for tired cliches per minute.
The problem with laser weapons is that the air, the atmosphere is a huge hindrance. It distort and weakens the beam and there's not much you can do about that, I don't care how technologically advanced you are. The literal air molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, bugs, whatever) gets in the way and you just have to power through it. The only way to do that is with more power. Thus, lasers would be ideal at extremely high altitudes, or space. But closer to the ground, they're only viable in specific situations, in certain circumstances, in certain weather configurations (if it's raining, forget about it).
Maybe something that was PD could work but that is only to hit, not so fast missiles at close range (less then two miles away).
yeah use it in the LA smog, it would turn it into a flashlight
Much yammering redundancy in an epic clash of synonyms and a challenge to the very art of the paradigm-shift in Thesaurus use. Amazing re-use of the same thought over and over again.
And don't forget, they broke the laws of physics.
In 1983, I saw the SR-71 take off from Osan Air Force Base, Republic of Korea. That was the first sonic boom (they circled Osan so they could make the sonic boom there before it got over North Korea) I heard since I was a kid in 1963 and lived near Vandenburg AFB.
Danny - You may not have heard it, but in supersonic flight, any aircraft continuously 'sheds' sonic booms as it flies, and the noise hits the ground-based listeners to sound only like one boom as it flies past. This is because the aircraft is continuously penetrating past the speed of sound and creating the noise.
VandenBurg is bitchen I always wanted to go to Halyama beach campground to watch a launch its still on my bucket list
I have been TDY to OSAN out of Clark Air Base R.P. 1982 - 1984 I Deer hunted Vandenburg AFB back in the 90's. I was stationed at Edwards AFB 1990 - 1997
My dad was stationed in Korea in the 80s and oversaw the DMZ. He has so many stories. They would look up on the big screens and the U2 would be putzing along while the SR-71 would zip across the screens in what seemed like leaps. The radars couldn’t keep up with it.
I was fortunate enough to work on a predecessor to this evolved technology: the F23 Black Widow II & Gray Ghost (1991). This project used similar stealth designs, engine masquerading, and secret surface coatings.
So did My brother he was programer designer on thailess fighter program!!
Lazers for combat WILL improve. Also Disrupters, with sound for ground fighting. Believe me. I saw a sound disruptor, mounted on a Jeep, years ago. It was disintegrating clay pots, glass, and cement. That forty years ago. I'm sure the Military has better secrets.
some say better plane that f22 design but i wouldn't know
SR 71 blackbird was not a fighter. It was a reconnaissance aircraft only now there was rumor of the A12. And it was rumored to carry missiles, slightly smaller than the SR 71 but of the same air frame.
The A-12 was produced from 1962 to 1964 and flew from 1963 to 1968.
That is the most beautiful plane I ever saw whoever made that did a great job they nobody in this whole world can top that Amen to that brother
The SR-71 is also said to be the last aircraft designed exclusively with the use of a sliderule.
To be accurate, the air frame was. They did have to break out the computers a bit to get the engines designed and built.
@@ritchschut1997 Wow. I wasn't aware that the developers used computers for that.

It would appear the US is leading the world in the production of CGI aircraft.
I am sure we have some amazing creations flying in the real world too.
There was an interceptor version of the SR-71, and while we learned a lot about firing missiles at extreme speed there just wasn't anything fast enough to intercept with the SR-71.
At 2 miles per second (7500 mph) we may have to ask what battlefield we would use this aircraft on. As a recon aircraft, it would be wonderful. It may also be great in the Space Force.
I hoping we can draft Harry Potter to fly the darn thing. Walt Disney would be proud of this Hyper-ganda CGI.--- The Laws of Physics be Darned!!!
The A12 Oxcart carried a few missles&faster than the SR71 blackbird.

By the time they were showcasing the Blackbird. Darkstar was already in production and being kept a dark secret. Now that DS is emerging, one has to guess what are they know developing? Perhaps something that can do both earths atmosphere as well as space.
SR71 was not a fighter. Purely reconnaissance, and very effective at it.
I thought the SR-71 was a battle ship….but now I know it’s a fighter….thanks!
As a retired USAF enlisted stationed at Edwards AFB, and Plant 42 in California on the B-2 Bomber for 7 years and then going to Beale AFB assigned to the 99thRS working on the U-2S Dragon Lady, I would watch this video and take the information in with a grain of salt.
I have to question this myself. When you look at how many f22's and f35's we haven't bought......To be sure, the most brilliant minds we have are always looking and thinking ahead. Yes, we have plenty of black programs. However, you look into why they got rid of the SR71, it was operational cost. IF this bird does in fact exist, I don't even care to think about operational cost's. I could dive even deeper but won't.

@@Gapper2.0the heat generated would be ungodly
If, and that is a big if, we actually build this beast I will know soon after the first order is placed. It has not been ordered as of yet. This type of aircraft requires very special metal to be built. That metal has not been ordered, or bought in the form factor required. Hypersonic Missiles are in development, the Dark Star is still just vaporware.
@@ritchschut1997 the sr-72 got replaced by satellites. it just isn't needed anymore, satellites don't cost continuous fuel. So i can't see them making any hypersonic jet for taking pictures anymore. If they did make a hypersonic jet, it would be a bomber or to try and reach up into orbit without a massive rocket. So if you take that into account, it gives you an idea why they'd be developing what they are and why there was major cutbacks on spaceflights with giant rockets, they got a better and cheaper way obviously.
It's fast, beautiful and a pioneer, I get it. Text is a repetitive kind of 'yes road'. They do not say much about what SR-71 and Darkstar really do.

The SR71 came to life December 1964. Taking the place of the U2 spy aircraft, built In 1950.
An aircraft that is capable of high hypersonic speeds must also be constructed with materials that are capable of standing up to extreme high temperatures and pressures. Ceramics and special alloys are required for these extreme conditions.
A true Hypersonic plane would have to be robotic, as it would kill human pilots from the G forces and inertia.

Seeing the blackbird in flight is one of my favorite memories!!
With the prefix"SR" ,Strategic Reconnaissance. No weapons on this plane. The SR-71 was orignally designed as a interceptor, thus when it was planned it carried YF-12, experimental fighter plane.
Incorrect according to books written by Ben Rich and Kelly Johnson. The A12 Cygnus was the first plane in the family. This was the CIA version. Shortly after this program was initiated, the air force came calling. That is when the SR71 went into development. While that development was going on, Kelly got the idea to turn the SR71 into a long range interceptor. That was when the 3 yf-12's were built. It should also be noted that there was actually a fourth version in this family too. The MD ( I forget what numbers followed the MD ) This was an altered A-12 that had a very ( for the time ) stealthy drone mounted to it. That drone could be launched at mack 3.1 or 3.2.
Idk if anyone else noticed but while talking about the tempest program the plane they showed had USA markings
You want to scare an enemy to the the peace table? Keep making stuff like this!
if its prefix is "SR" (Strategic Reconnaissance) then it IS NOT a fighter otherwise it would be an F-72 or an F/A-72. F= Fighter F/A= Fighter/Attack
Yeah...um...the SR 71 is a reconnaissance jet, not a fighter. The Eagle is still probably the fastest. It is definitely the fastest if you count the V-Max feature.
the concord passenger jet as almost as fast as the sr-71 LOL
It's not just Jets that are fast. Missiles too. Martin Marietta was building the Sprint Missile in the 70s that reached Mach 10 in 5 seconds.
the faster you go the hotter the air-frame gets and it will have a huge infrared signature - maybe invisible to radar, but still detectable by heat seeking weapons!!
They would have to travel faster than Mach 10 to hit it.
Yes. Glad you poi Ted this out for viewers. And at those hyperspeeds, human pilots would be killed by Gs and inertia.
We have a scalier weapon that takes the wave form out of em energy, allowing the particles to travel faster than light. A couple of comments: 1. Someone once said “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.” This video sounds like a slick sales presentation. 2. If we are working on such projects the Chinese likely have important information about it from compromised contractors.
Whenever I hear someone say "X breaks the laws of Physics" I know they don't know what they're talking about.
Its amazing that they can build these things, but the automotive industry cant seem to build a small pickup that gets 20+ mpg.
It'd be fantastic if the engineers resolved the issue of leaking fuel due to the expansion and contraction with temperatures changing.
I like the taunt to foreign intelligence, “Is this what your satellites have been seeing or is there something more?” As many assume, US military technology often leads public knowledge by decades.
The NSA had LLMs in the 90s and has been shaping public sentiment with bots since the early 2000s.
Our crumbling infrastructure, and the inflation that buttresses it, is a monument to our military might. Politicians have been bought, sold, and sacrificed on the altar of Apollo by interests spending unfathomable amounts of human wealth and future prosperity, to make these marvels of human ingenuity.
This is our scorched mark on history. These knife-edged triangles and their hidden lineage are our pyramids. The only ones who will ever truly appreciate this pinnacle of human creation, will never live to tell the tale. Death and destruction, and the pockets of obliterated civilization, will be the only testaments left to the future.

Alright so when is the new ACE COMBAT coming out lmao. This video is awesome!
But it did carry an “F” designation for a short while The F-12.
Till Robert McNamara got really angry with Kelly Johnson, over his pimping of the F-12 to various Congressmen, and ordered the Advanced Machines Tools, owned by the DoD, but loaned to Lockheed to build the Blackbirds, returned to the Pentagon. Then he had them destroyed.
So no more SR-71 Blackbirds or (A-12 Archangels the faster, larger CIA version) could ever be built again.
I thought the sr71 was a reconnaissance plane
I guess we know what replaced the SR-71 now!
When you say that the SR-72 has a laser you are speculating. No one knows what weapons it will carry, if any.
The USA, UK, Israel and others have been working on energy weapons for sometime. It is logical to assume that one would/could be fitted to the worlds fastest aircraft, to enable it to perform the Interception role.
Japan is testing a railgun
The sr71 was only a tad faster than the Russian foxbat, which was a clunker plane with big engines
That Russian aircraft which was slower, unlike the SR could not Cruze at speed for any length of time and could not get close to the SR's altitude.
When it went max speed it fried the engines requiring engine replacements.
