  • Are you looking to swap your E36 lower control arms for some larger E46 control arms, but don't know where to start? Well, I think I may be able to help you out.
I found that most of the information about this LCA (Lower Control Arm) swap was slightly confusing and most did not address the issue of relocating the sway bar and the trimming of both the inner tie rods and the LCA's themselves.
I spent the last week and a half trying to iron out all the problems with this swap so that you don't have to!
I am very happy with the results, the only issue is that my coil overs went out and now the Dubya (E36) is rubbing because it's basically riding the bump stops...

🔧Special Tools needed for this job 🔧
Inner tie rod tool (most auto parts stores will loan them)
    Adjustable Wrenches
22mm wrench for the large ball joint
19mm Wrench for smaller ball joint
16mm wrench for outer tie rod
13mm wrench for securing the inner tie rod when removing the outer
I believe the Allen socket for my ball joint was a 5, but it may have been a 6
17mm socket for the eyelet bolts
    A sledgehammer or rubber mallet
    prybars
    Jack
    Jack stands
I did not use a torque wrench for my install because I couldn't get one on the bolts, I used the gutentight method. Pelican parts usually have some nice write-ups with all the torque specs. Proceed at your own risk, but please be safe out there!

I needed the 21mm but they also sell a 23mm. I would suggest checking your E46 control arm size before ordering. Also, there is a way to swap in a bushing into the e36 eyelet if you want to save some money. I just did not want to go through the hassle.

hey brotha so we built identical cars. but whay you need on the front is adjustable camber plates and wheel spacers. the winder track and camber will help a ton but your definitely gunna have to roll the fronts or even cut them for clearance.

That 940 Dude it’s funny you should say that, because I have camber plates and wheel spacers 😅 I tried different wheels as well. The issue for my car is that The coils are bottoming out because they are completely blown. They were just cheap amazon specials 🤷🏻‍♂️. I think once I get some decent coils and lift it up just a bit, it will fit nicely. I’m more concerned with the functionality over the looks. Even if I need to ride like a monster truck 😂

@@TheDailyDrift dude same. lmao. so i scored a deal and got racelands(not ultimos) with camber plates and I have like half inch spacers. everything cleared 🙌 thankfully but i did have to clearance the bottom of the coils as i also use an ebay angle block thingy on top of the e46 arms. but i used a flange nut rather then the counter sunk nut that's required for the balljoint stud on that adapter.. but yeah man. i definitely sub to your channel. just happened to see were doing the same build basically even down to the oil cooler on our silver 328s lmao. looking forward to more content. and like i said definitely roll or cut your fenders. these cars love crazy front poke lol

That 940 Dude that’s sick, one day I’ll slap some angle mods on it. I’ll have to check the clearances when I get there. Gotta love these cars, they really can do a lot for very little $. I appreciate it, I’m going to try and get more content out, it’s been kinda crazy here lately.

@@TheDailyDrift i dont blame you brotha. life gets ahold of us all. but yeah man u aint kidding. ive been building my volvo for 3 years. last month i picked up this e36 and a few mods later i nearly linked the skidpad at osw on my second run lmao. these cars are incredible for there price.
