That guy plans to put a super-charger on it. Hmmmm......... For E-Ray Turbo-charger makes more sense as it already good enough torque push at low rpm. What it needs is that boost from turbo at top end. Super-charger be more suitable for Stingray.

Wow!, those C8 E-Ray torque figures are crazy. (hard to believe they are real).
We were told the E-Ray would have, "an electric motor making 160 bhp (120 kW) and 125 pound-feet (165 NM) of torque, I imagine at the crank.
Yet according to these dyno figures we see an average of over 600 ft/lbs from 2000 revs to 4600 revs. At the rear wheel. Which is 200+ ft/lbs of torque more than a stock C8 Corvette at similar revs.
    How can a 125 ft/lbs electric motor produce 200+ ft/lbs of torque?????
    Even a stock C7 ZR1 only makes about 470 ft/lbs at 2500 revs peaking at 535 ft/lbs at 4500 revs.
If 600+ ft/lbs is genuine for the E-Ray that is phenomenal.
The trick here then for the E-Ray is not only to add a Supercharger as some outfits are attempting to do, but to add in another 1.9kW/h battery unit as well.
They are about 45kg per battery unit, so for those E-Ray owners that rarely take passengers, they could take out the passenger seat + safety belt etc to lower the weight and have another 1.9kW/h battery pack installed alongside the existing centre console.
THEN have it all rigged up so that as one battery pack is being depleted the other is being/has been replenished ready for use, not waiting until currently just the one to fully deplete, then wait around not using it until 50 or so seconds later when it has been fully charged.
Having two battery packs with one as good as fully charged ready to lock & load and blast along with that one, then switch to the other and so on.
Making the recent E-Ray Lightning Lap of 2m:45.9s lap time something that could be lowered towards the C8 Z06 lap recorded lap time of 2m:38.6s quite achievable.
It being we hear the limitations of the E-Rays current sole 1.9kW/h battery that the E-Ray, "lacks enough capacity to provide full boost for the entire 4.1-mile lap".
With TWO battery packs it may be possible.
IF there is a way to fit two battery packs, program & configure it in to the existing system some bright spark will do it.
As later on they will likely fit more powerful electric motors on the E-Ray, replacing the 160 hp ones.
That is the thing about the E-Ray, it is its POTENTIAL about this performance machine that has to be seen to be so desirable in addition to its already stunning performance. Making it the package to go for.
Only the ZORA in addition to the E-Ray will likely ever come with AWD.
    Something the base C8, C8 Z06 and C8 ZR1 will never have.
All great performance cars as we see and will see in future releases.

@@cali2468 You know…your probably right. I forgot to say Heads and Cam and E85 fuel. I kind of assumed that if someone is gone to crack open a motor to build the bottom end, then why wouldn’t they upgrade the cam and address the heads while they are at it. I’ve owned 2650 with over 950whp since 2020 and am pretty aware of what this blower is capable of on a far heavier platform. A relatively light platform with electricity assisted AWD and another an extra 325-350whp, this blower is easily capable of producing with those aforementioned additions would easily push this Vette into the mid 8s territory. My V runs low 9s @ 150-151 on a prepped surface. This 800 pound lighter AWD V runs about 10.4-10.5 stock on 93. An E85 only tune with no other changes would probably be enough to get this car into the high 9s. Add in a built engine (so you can safely run 19-21psi), this blower will easily take this car in the 8s with AWD.

as soon as I saw the graph I thought to myself thats about what 8 psi from a twin screw would do on a LS based engine... I have seen personally 630rwhp on a HCI C8 and that package on the Eray would be bananas , thats what I would do since the blower is going to add 100+ lb if If these LT2s can handle sayyy 13-15psi with a fuel system without tearing itself to pieces now we are talking. I think the HCI route would be the best and most reliable especially for my style of driving . 630+ 150 +/-10hp is 780 to the tire with all the sound compounded with electric response and trq... not to mention with more aggressive cam there is more left on the table with the HCI setupr in this platform and the loss down low isn't an issue due to the electric . Lots and lots and lots of packages to play with on the Eray !!

630whp on a stock cubic-inch LT2? Not happening unless you build a very radical top end and you're definitely going to need race gas or E85. Even then it's going to be a challenge. Now a 427ci LS7 can make those numbers easily.

    First, nicely explained.
From an engineering standpoint, the tradeoff of a hybrid aka Eray is...complexity versus cost versus performance increase.
From a technical complexity standpoint, which affects long term ownership and proportional reliability cost ,a simpler machine i.e. Stingray with gas engine only will fail at a lower rate than an Eray. This is irrevocable. Physics. In engineering parlance, there is no free lunch. A hybrid vehicle has 2.5 x's the technical complexity of a gas engine only vehicle. A hybrid aka Eray, not only has a completely redundant electric propulsion system but 100 computers allowing two propulsion systems to work together in harmony for reasonable drivability. Within a typical warranty period, this is of little concern other than time in the shop chasing gremlins that accrue due to very complex design language that statistically will fail more than a simpler machine. But long term, the achilles heel of a hybrid system versus gas only propelled vehicle is the complexity of its electrical system. Long term a typical Eray owner isn't just looking at Throttle by wire, MAF, Air & Engine coolant, CPS, Oxygen, Knock (ignition timing) Sensors, ABS by wire, electric steering, transmission clutch pack solenoids, engine and trans PCM's and all the computers on a typical ICE vehicle that fail. Oh no. that is 'nothing' compared to the electronics of a redundant motor drive system and countless computers with algorithms that allow both gas engine and electric motors to work together as with a hybrid aka Eray. Electronics due to age, vibration and environmental exposure are highly vulnerable to failure over time. This 'could' have a profound cost to the owner long term in terms of part failure compared to a much simpler gas only powered Stingray which still has a plethora of things to go wrong. Many, including me,if wanting more power, would simply buy a Stingray and put a pro charger or discrete blower on it and be much further ahead from a reliability standpoint long term. The owner of this car is going to do both. Further, the Z06 option which is almost the same price of an Eray and a much simpler car aka no redundant electric motor drive system, on a race track will likely beat the Eray even if down fractionally in net power due to the undeniable added weight of the Eray. No free lunch. Hybrids are heavy and affect vehicle handling dynamics and power to weight ratio.
In summary, all the above isn't really your concern as you didn't design the vehicle. Your goal is to optimize the architecture of a given vehicle as it dealt. You for example, may never choose an Eray as I wouldn't or countless others who understand the above, especially with GM's track record of dubious reliability and even quality issues associated with the C8 in its first four years. The Eray will be next level in this regard based upon physics and math what engineers calculate. The Eray may in fact be even 'fairly' reliable through warranty, but long term? No way and now its the consumer's wallet that is paying for repairs. As it turns out, auto maker profit is why hybrids exist. There is no altruism or any free lunch when it comes to manufacturing. Its the bottom line.
As a Corvette enthusiast, I will watch your videos with appreciation of what you do because I come from the world of automotive development as well. I predict that longer Eray ownership will not be a pleasant experience due to afore mentioned complexity and imminent part failures out of warranty. We will see if my prediction comes true 4-5 years from now. At least this very early vehicle hasn't failed in your possession so far.
When I worked at the Chevy Tech Center in Warren, Mi where the C8 was designed I used to have conversations with engineers who designed Chevy's early foray into the hybrid space, the Chevy Volt which was the precursor to the design architecture used in the Eray. We used to take Volts we developed home after work. All agreed that the tech that went into the Volt was truly mind numbing in complexity required to marry a gas engine and electric motor to work well together and required computer programming that rivaled the space shuttle. Let's see if this technology will continue to work over time out of warranty and not bankrupt Eray owners. I am on record and say this vehicle will not be a high water mark for Chevrolet and GM.

Thanks for the feedback and good questions! Graham here (from the video) - will try to add some more info for you. You make a lot of good points for sure and we've had the same conclusion. Time will tell the viability, success and reliability of the E-Ray. We do think its very cool and are happy to test them, modify them and make them as best as they can be for our customers to who choose to the own them, just as we do for the Stringray and Z06.
In regards to the dyno, the Dynojet does factor in the extra inertial load from the belt and pulleys when the Linx system is engaged. It has a sensor for it. We've tested AWD cars on it back to back link and unlinked and the measured power does reflect the same. So the measured power here should be fairly accurate we feel.

      @lukewalker1051 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@asiasurfchannel1241 You are practical. You get it. It used to be, the public understood that simple is best or better and diminishing return with added complexity because statistically, given same failure probability rate of all engineered parts, the more parts you have, the higher the failure rate. But now? We live in a different time whereby wealth has created the Iphone age where things aren't owned as long term. Iphone battery get weak as all Li-Ion batteries do over time? Throw the baby out with the bathwater and just replace the Iphone. But things change of course when buying a car that used to the cost of having a mortgage.
I listen to people that want an Eray. They aren't traditional Corvette buyers. They have never changed an engine, transmission or rear end on a muscle car or Corvette of years past. You don't have to go to engineering school to learn that gasoline has 100 x's the energy density of a Li-Ion battery and why electric cars or even supplementally powered cars with electric aka a hybrid are a fool's errand. Only reason automakers create Hybrids is 2.5 x's the part complexity which translates to higher part failures aka batteries, motors, inverters and computers out of warranty which equates to greater profit for auto makers for sale of replacement parts. This is where auto companies make the real money.
Own a Eray out of warranty? There goes little Johnny's college fund and of course every single owner of an Eray will not be smart enough to fix it when it goes out of warranty.
Watch for Eray depreciation compared to Z06 and standard Stingray. Who wants a used Eray with a degrading battery and electrical system nobody can figure out?
