      Jobs can be taken away, but education, experience, and skills cannot.Twice in my life, I have been let go from my job with no warning - and I'm only 24, not 60. The company might have let me go, but my education, experience, and skills will always be there. Dave is right that Julie has a valuable asset - the ability to sell. It is very hard to hide underperformance in the sales world. I should know, being that i lost two jobs in 7 months for not hitting my numbers fast enough. Julie lasted 20 years. That obviously means something, and I'm willing to bet that she might be able to get a hiring manager to overlook her lack of a degree by highlighting her experience.
      Also as a side note, if you are in this situation, do not let all the Joe Six Packs of the world get on their high horses and make you feel guilty about receiving unemployment. You paid into it and you EARNED it.

      Joe Ochoa she calls back 5 months later with an update. She lands a job doing the same thing, takes a $5k pay cut to prove herself (she does and does it well), so she's "only" making $65k, and she ends up making a lot more than she did at her old job she was at for over 20 years. This is exactly what DR was trying to tell her and she LISTENED. It was very inspiring.

    I was layoff after 21 years as a Police Officer, but it was the best thing that every happen in my life!
    I was afraid at first, but now I own my own businesses and I don't have any debt.

    With 20 years experience in sales and the last salesperson to be let go by her company, she should have no problem walking into any place and landing a sales position. If she can sell medical products, she should have no problem selling herself.

    • @ryvrdrgn15
      @ryvrdrgn15 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Athrough Z From what I can see she just felt bad about being let go, but more so she's afraid of change. She just settled in too much in her comfort zone for 20 years but once she gets over that the sky's the limit.

    • @mikenelson8377
      @mikenelson8377 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Athrough Z yep! I've been working in the same job field for over 10 years. I told this to lady who manages another company at this party Xmas of 2016 that has the same position and she looked and me and said, "10 years? You can get hired anywhere you want." I was in doubt but she insisted and said, "You have the best product on Earth for people in this field: YOU. You have experience. You know the job in and out. If you were to apply to any job offering that similar/same position, you'll out interview everyone else."

    • @mikenelson8377
      @mikenelson8377 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can tell she didn't save much during those 20 yrs. A person of her age and income should have at least have a good 100k to 200k in non-retirement assets MINIMUM, whether cash or hard assets excluding cars and house.

Heck, I had saved and made the company so much money. It felt like I was sucker punched. Later, I found out they termed those with the biggest income, or using their benefits the most. I was hot but then took it as a blessing. My talents are to serve in greater ways. God has my family and I covered and I’m open and thankful for the prosperity and adventures to come.

    I've always been able to get a job as long as I can get facetime with the hiring manager / decision maker. What I ended up doing though, to make it even easier, was getting back into driving a truck. I'm not even on the market right now and companies are throwing offers at me. My boss was scared (I work for a relatively large, family owned business.) so they increased the pay by about $5 per hour, in the last couple of years.
    Next year will probably be another healthy bump in pay.

    The hard part here is why would they hire someone older for $100k when someone right out of college would do it for $30k. Yes, there are skills to be learned but most businesses want you to sell their way and not yours. Its teachable. I worked for a bank after having prior sales knowledge. The bank basically told me to unlearn all of that and do what they do. So basically it didnt transition at all. Its a tough out there for sales.
