EVGA would replace your card if it couldn't be fixed without screwing you around *cough*ASUS...*COUGH* EVGA got praise because they were very consumer focused, they backed their customers and since they gave the finger to Nvidia and left well... doesn't take a bright spark to see what is happening. The real EVGA is gone, what is left is a skeleton crew, overworked and paid peanuts.

I would send my stuff to you but postage is about 200 dollars. I truly love your work and the explanations and the mastery all the physical aspects of this type of repair. I can solder discrete components, but that's it.
Sent my Asus board in under warranty. A board they at first tried to deny because they changed their return policy from 3 to 2 years. I bought mine when it was still 3 years, and I had a month left. Packaged it in a nice box. They wanted the board with the CPU, heatsink, and fan installed. The front USB ports had failed. Instead of repairing them, they just disabled those ports, put it in one of their mobo boxes, which weren't designed to be packaged with a CPU, heatsink and fan attached and shipped it back to me. They had bent the top of the box around the HS/Fan that created the bulge then wrapped it in packaging tape... That's how it was returned. I was surprised it even booted after being shipped like that.
This is so sad. EVGA has a special place in my heart. Still holding on to my FTW3 2080 Super after I got my MSi 4070 Super. If I ever use my FTW3 2080 Super and need a repair, I've seen enough of your videos to send it to you.

The other week I saw this insane repair of a 6900xt by KrisFix-Germany. If I remember right, a via to a gpu pad from the 13th layer was broken and he drilled down to connect it, spinning a little drill bit in his fingers and then connecting with a tiny wire across the back of the board. What surprised me was that he reballed with lead free solder.

If you find the connectors on the preheater keep burning up it MIGHT be helped if you replace the wires with a higher gauge. Still use those ferrules though.

I had an EVGA power supply, the fan stopped working and it would actually overheat so I sent it in for rma. The power supply thry sent me in replacement would make crackling arcing sounds when you'd flip on the power switch. I sent them a video and called them and they told me it was normal. After a month the power supply popped and took my motherboard and cpu with it.They refused to make things right unless I vould prove it was the power supply. So I contacted MSI and AMD for RMA and sent them all the emails between me and evga. MSI and AMD both said they would take care of it. Never again will I own anything EVGA. Note, this is before Andrew Han decided to torpedo his own company.
I had a brand new evga psu dead on arrival, returned it and got a higher end model.......turned it on and smoke started coming out of my case, it had fried my blu-ray drive and 2 hdd. I will never buy another evga psu. I also have had a couple of evga card and they do work but they run hot. Have seen my evga 3080 get to 93. It's supposed to throttle at 83.
My old EVGA 580 stopped working and they did me dirty on the warranty. Made excuse after excuse regardless of the warranty being registered and having proof. Never bought anything from them again and never understood why everyone praises them so much. They suck now and they sucked then.
The best stories around EVGA PSU RMA is they changed the pinout on the same model and didn't tell customers to use the cables included with the new one
Their motherboard support is also quite sketchy now, when sending mine in about 6 months ago they tried to refuse my RMA because I still had my noctua mounting hardware on in place of the cheap plastic pieces that are installed initially when buying an amd motherboard so I had to ship two packages to them before replacing mine (despite them probably having thousands of these less than $3.00 pieces of plastic laying around)
I'll suggest you use hot air, tweezers and solder wick to clean the pads Try it and see. And with the flakes on the board, try prying the solder balls on the very spots.🙏
my EVGA RMA experience: -send in a faulty 2080ti with 11gb VRAM -they send me a 8gb 3070 - i complain, they deem it acceptable for value/performance -3070 blows a capacitor in about 2 months -they send another 3070 which was DOA -I get a third 3070 and decide to go with ASUS/other brands in the future -EVGA goes away

I bought a used GTX 1660 Super on Ebay in 2022. This february shortly before the 3-year warranty expired, it died without any warning signs or visible damage. I learned that EVGA generously offers that warranty even when you are not the original buyer AND do not have the original receipt. All I had was the serial number and the private ebay sale info and that was enough to get an RMA number. I sent my card in and quickly got a working replacement that is still working in one of my PCs until today. So the usual "your mileage may very" applies, and maybe your title is a little bit too generalized.
EVGA has decided to close shop and has been phasing out for over a year. All the best talent have left. This is hardly surprising. EVGA was the gold standard mind you... and unquestionably. Incredible products. But the owner decided to close the company as opposed to sell it.

I wonder if there is an opposite thing to stencil for solder balls. One that covers pads and you can flow solder mask around it. Some sort of rubber feet on pads thingy. They do it somehow at the factory
I got a card with a stripped screw but it still works. I put the wrong thermal pad sizes and couldn’t figure out why it was running a bit hotter. At the time unfortunately there was 0 info on the vram thermal pad sizes. So I stripped the screw opening it to many times wondering what I did wrong. Is this possible to fix?
Never had any issues with EVGA RMA, my 3090TI crapped out on me, and they replaced it, they didn't even bother a fix, they straight up sent me a new card, have been buying EVGA for years and years, they have been good to me.
I get that EVGA rework is bad for the board. But it's also free. It sucks, but free is free, and if evga screws up on the refurb, it can be sent back to evga for another replacement so long as the warranty date hasn't expired. It's a rock and a hard place situation. Could get it professionally serviced, but for a few hundred bucks it's a very hard pill to swallow.
really sucks to see this. i purchased a used 3080 ti xc3 (not working) from ebay back in april of this year. it still had 3 months of warranty and customer service was able to transfer the warranty to my name right away (before i received the gpu). i sent the bad one for rma upon arrival and was sent a brand new sealed a few days later. i've been praising evga since then but damn ... this is just horrible.

I'm a PCB designer, and I order boards all the time, mostly from Taiwan. They only cost $3-$4 when ordered in bulk.

@@JamesTK When they RMA'd my psu they told me not to send my cables with it and then the new unit had no cables with it.
@ I think that's what happened in this scenario too but the pinout changed and their hard drives got killed

I thought they were still making power supplies and stuff, and had only decided to exit the GPU business?

I think they mask the whole thing, and then laser off the mask off of the pads.
Also you would have to be very very careful to have an even and very thin coating of mask. Any humps, lumps or bumps in the mask will mess up the BGA

Have you ever tried holding a piece of solder wick with hot tweezers? It’s a little slower than normal, but it’s gentler on the pads.
It’s kinda like using a paintbrush
If mask is flaking away, being gentle wont help.
But yeah, that method is good.
