Class 387 Electrostar 2 on GWR

  • The second generation electrostar is one of my favorite trains. They are pretty fast and work really well. They are much better than the older generation electrostars which were too slow and often smelt of toilets. The second generation Electrostar took the design of the original and improved everything that wasn't right about it and removed all of the defects. It is a well designed train because it is the evolution of a design that has been built for many years. To put it simply, Bombardier perfected the design (which has produced a better train than designing something new). It is much better than the crap trains produced by Stadler, CAF and Siemens, who build complete rubbish that are annoying and slow (although Siemens is good in other countries, they are crap in the UK). The only mainline train in the UK better than the Electrostar 2 is the Hitachi/Javilin series of trains.

      @@EssexWolf1993 Maybe Great Northern can have some of the Class 379s to operate from London Kings Cross to Cambridge, Cambridge North and Kings Lynn. And Great Western Railway to inherit some of the Class 379s to operate on the Reading-Newbury shuttle service as Greater Anglia are replacing the Class 379 with the Class 720/5 and Class 720/1 and the Class 387/3 to Heathrow Express as c2c are replacing them with the Class 720/6.

    RCA/Columbia Pictures/Hoyts has introduced an innovative concept to ensure that you receive full value each time you hire a video program. All VHS video cassettes carry a red spine; this is your guarantee of first class audio video presentation. If your VHS cassette does not look like this, then it's likely you're viewing an inferior pirated copy. Your Beta cassette does not carry a red spine, but a similar protection of your investment is guaranteed by the exclusive polarised seal, as shown here. If this is not the case, you're not getting your money's worth in picture, quality, and sound.

    They are actually very nice trains. Since GWR have ordered 45 Class 387/1s with 12 of them modified for Heathrow Express that replaced the Class 332 and renumbered as Class 387/1a. And they also are hiring the Gatwick Express Class 387/2 and c2c Class 387/3. As Great Northern are hiring few Class 387/2 for a short while.

    The 387s are too heavy to produce good acceleration on third rail , the 377/6s outperform them usually

      True. And the Class 377/7.

      True it feels like they struggle to get up to power quickly enough

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@court692able yeah exactly, the 160 ton range seems a bit of the higher end of a 4 car train before acceleration begins to falter (on Third rail at least)
      The 377/6s Naturally should have more power to cope for the 5th car.
      Apparently 3rd rail EMUs use around 1200kw for a 4 car unit. Or some use over that for a short portion before going down again.

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andrewjg_89 maybe, that's if the pantograph coaches don't weigh it down. For example I think some dual voltage units can be around 5 to 8 extra tons.
      377/4 = (DC only) 160 tons
      377/2 (dual voltage) = 168 tons
      377/1= (DC only) 163 tons
      377/5 = (dual voltage) around 170 tons
      375/6 = (dual voltage) is around 170 tons also
      375/7= 164 tons (DC only)
      Bruv 387s are 174 tons (for why loool)
      377/6 = around 204 tons (DC only, 5 cars)
      377/7 = around 212 tons i think (dual voltage)
      (These are sourced from my own experience looking at unit data on the trains themselves, so don't take it all as solid fact )
      I think it would have been a better idea to sort of imitate the aventra and desiro style and use the same design as the electrostars but just reduce the weight of the bogies and body shells by a Ton or two.
      For example , even reducing the carriages by one ton each
      Means that 4 carriages means = 4 tons reduced.
      And reducing the bogies by 2 tons each would mean 16 tons as there are 2 bogies per carriage.
      All in all 20 tons reduces. This sort of thing was done by Siemens when making desiro cities
      I.e class 450s = around 170 tons with only third rail equipment
      When compared to class 700s or a class 707 a 4 car 707 would be in theory around 131 to 135 tons (since 700s are heavier due to being dual voltage) The difference is astounding isn't it? So doing this to the newer electrostars would have been alot of help I think.

  • @bb-3653
    @bb-3653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    379s accurate faster but then again..they weigh around ten tons lighter

      Totally agree and I wish that Bombardier and Greater Anglia could of ordered more Class 379s so it can be used on other services including London Liverpool Street to Braintree, Southend Victoria, Southminster, Ipswich, Colchester, Colchester Town, Walton-on-the-Naze, Clacton-on-Sea and Harwich Town.
