  • www.HelpWithVideo.com "How long can I record video with my smartphone?" is a question I hear a lot. The answer can be confusing, whether you have an iPhone, Samsung, or something else. The good news is that we've come up with an easy way for you to know how much recording time you can get out of your smartphone. It sees you see how much memory you have left by starting a test recording.
    That will let you know your remaining recording time. This way, you can either delete items from your phone to free up more memory space or just know you've got "X" amount of time to record.
    Keep in mind that your available memory can vary due to how many apps you have, as well as how much storage is being filled by pictures and music.

    How do you get round the 10-minute limit (for example) imposed by Samsung?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question John. Since this video was made in 2015, some companies like Samsung has created limits to recording time. From what I understand the restriction is designed to keep the phone from overheating. My guess is that some super tech people might be able to figure out a solution but that might result in the phone being damaged by heat.

    Divert your recording file to your mobile's sd card.

    It's not about the memory just! Even if I have unlimited memory, Android stops recording after 5GB or so, that's an OS limitation, is there a solution for that?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I don't know of an easy way around the problem. A lot has changed in the eight years since I made the video. I believe the limits are in place to avoid overheating. I'd rather have control of my device and figure out how to keep it cool, on my own.

    I want to record for 15 hours for a study vlog. Can i record it with phone having memory card?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sharan. 15 hours might be more time than your memory card can hold. Also, keep in mind that this video came out in 2015 and since then phone software creators sometimes limits recording length so a device does not overheat. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

    Hi Ken, My requirement is to record videos of 2-3 hrs. In my phone the maximum video time is 10 minutes only.How to increase it to 2-3 hrs.?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Vivek. This is tricky. I"m thinking you would probably have to remove a lot of content from your phone. You might also be able to record the video quality level, which would reduce the file size. Perhaps there also might be a way to record to the Cloud but I have to admit I'm not an expert with that. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

      @@KenOkel Thanks Ken. I have Samsung A9 with 128 gb space. The phone allows to record videos of 10 minutes only. It automatically stops after 10 minutes. Since the phone has many features in video recording, I don't want to go for other apps. Can I increase its recording timing to 2-3 hrs?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vidathbhardwaj I see, Vivek. I'm not as familiar with Samsung phones. I found this about the issue: www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001538/ It sounds like the 10 minute limit is to prevent overheating but if you record at a lower resolution, the recording time may increase some.

      @@muhasin2007 Now I am using an app 'Open Camera'. Recording videos using this is a fun. You can record videos of unlimited size. Adjust video settings as per your requirement before recording.

    I retract my sarcasm, and thank Ken for his effort. However, what I would like to know is how much smartphone memory each second (say) of video uses, at varying video definitions. I had hoped to be able to search and find this somewhere. But have not found this on the phone's user guides or on websites. But, taking the advice here, I'll eventually check how much memory my iPhone has, then Ill take a 60 second video, then I'll check how much memory is left. Then I'll have a formula that can be applied only to my phone, and to that video definition.

      Scott, this might be a resource for your question: havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/timelapse-calculator-iphone. I have not used the app. It's hard to find much other information about how long you can record, if for instance you have an iPhone 7 and want to shoot HD video.
      I've found my method, low tech as it may be, gives you an answer. This was a response to a viewer question about a year and a half ago. Let me know if you have other questions.

    What if your phone doesn't tell you how much time you can record while you record?

    • @KenOkel
      @KenOkel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a challenging situation. I'd do a practice recording where you see how long you can record until you run out of space. That should give you a rough idea of what you have to play with. Not a perfect solution, I know.
