I have a Fender Mini Jazzmaster in Open G Terz Tuning which is actually like taking your regular Guitar, tuning it to Open E, and then putting a capo on the 3rd Fret.
It was a fine pagan and hedonistic sacrifice to vice, fast and dirty living, and the gods of Rock and Roll, none the less.
That low D is fifth inversion which most all country bluesmen used in staple alternating bass line
Try tuning 6 up to G. You have a massive sounding bottom end with a little natural chorusing. It will not hurt your neck on the typical solid body guitar, and you can always tune it to D when you're not using it.
@@praketingrichraft6181 How about Open E w/ a Capo on the 3rd Fret?
You know by playing these classic riffs will add years to your life. Just look at Keith.
👌🏼
🤣😂
😂😂😂😂👍👍
On sixth day, God created Eve. She looked around and asked: “who’s that cute apple over there?” And God answered: “him? That’s Keith Richard, don’t bother, he was already there when I arrived”. Everybody knows how it ended
@@zyighzag4050 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 good reply. Thanks for sharing!
This may be the reason why Keith cannot be killed by conventional weapons.
78 now playing in Open G (arthritis) More please 🥳

I hear you
Is it in the thumbs ? Mine is but I"m damned if it's gonna stop me playing 👍ouch !!😊
Today, I have "discovered Plutonium by accident." Im gonna dedicate one of my guitars to open G tuning.
Check out open F... When the Levee Breaks
These sound so much better in Open G - thank you !
What I do these days is I tune my Guitar to Open E and put a capo on the 3rd Fret which gives me Open G Terz Tuning. It's a bit brighter than the Keith Richards 5 String Open G Tuning in the video (same tuning as a Banjo but the 5th String is 2 Octaves Lower than it normally would be) so it does add some high end.
I love Can't You Hear Me Knocking. I'm a beginner and I've been fiddling around with this, it sounds harder than it actually is and it's a blast to play
Agree open E is good for slide. 3 E's.
Love playing in Open-G. These were great 👍🏿 Cheers 🥂
Glad you enjoyed it!
After 30 years of listening to Malmsteen, Satriani, Vai . . . I realize, what a riff monster Keith Richard is. And . . . . They teach us „Friendship“. And the best, they produce and stay on stage nowadays. They made the Corona No1 Hit „Ghost Town“, love it.
Superb stuff. Learnt Honky tonk women and Jumping Jack Flash from your standard tuning videos. I shall give these a go.
OMG... if i knew this or had youtube as a teen in the 70s i would be so good now...thanks for this one...
Thanks Andy, super helpful video!
The Stones made such Joyous music. I always found them such a feel good band. Love the video
Thanks Andy, great lesson!
Brilliant stuff.
Great video. My favourite riff in G from Keith is Tumblin’ Dice. I played in Stones bands for years and always loved playing that one.
Great lesson!
I love that guitar design and that bridge humbucker. Vola Vasti !!!
Awesome Andy
Thank you mate, open g is amazing to play
Thankyou Andy.
You are a very dedicated tutor.
Thanks for this. I’m the bassist who sometimes has to play gtr and at the moment I have one tuned in open g. I know alll of these in standard E, but they definitely sound better in open G. Thank you for the tips.
Outstanding tutorial! Thank you!
We play Little Red Rooster in my band sometimes. I have guitar tuned to open E with a capo on the 3rd fret putting me in open G. One of the other guitarists plays his guitar in open G. We dedicate the better part of a set playing different blues rock folk mix of music in alternate tunings. Years ago as a beginner on guitar I focused mostly playing guitar in open G. It got me interested in other alternate tunings and drew me closer to standard tuning. This was a GREAT video.....
Fantastic, mate! I love hearing the Stones from players who know how to play the Stones!!!
Your an excellent teacher thank you
I love playing open G on my baritone ukulele as well. Thanks for a great lesson.
Wow you’ve inspired me, when I moved to America I bought about 9 guitars, most just sat there idle, but now Ime gonna use 2 of them with the top string off and play like Keith Richards, Ime excited now, cheers mate 🇬🇧🇺🇸🎸👍
Great stuff Andy open G class
Love this brilliant
Thank you!
That was great! Always wanted to play Stones riffs! Cheers!🍻
Some raunchy tone going on here Andy🤘🤘🤘
All those classic rockers from the Stones really capture a zest for life
Thank you 🙏🏾
Can't you hear me knocking is one I love
Very insightful, thank you Andy.
Fantastic! Just came across you and love what you're doing!
Brown Sugar, makes me feel so good!
There are a couple open G Classics on the new Hackney Diamonds record. Be great to see you demonstrate those.
Amazing 👍 Thanks a lot 😊
Well done. Can't wait to try it out!
Have fun!
Astonishing video 💜 god bless u
Awesome brother from Warren Valuable lesson. 😎
Great tutorial, thank you !
Have been playing Brown Sugar for a few years now, about time I tried the rest.
Absolutely. If you can play that, you can play all of these!
Great lessons !👍🏻🙌🏻
Very cool tutorial. Cheers.
Very well done
genius andy !!!
Cool video ..good to know that tuning .thanks 😊
cant be more rock n roll than eliminate what you dont actually need and keep rocking one of the most cool riffs ever
Great stuff.
I heard that a lot of slide players tune to open G. I need to get out my guitar and play around with this now ... THANKS !!!!
good demonstration
Open G gives a super drone to anything. Try Waterloo Sunset, Go your own way, No Regrets etc etc.
Some minor chords are a pain but they're on the neck somewhere!
Well Done
Superb !!!!
Wow-Little red Rooster I hadn't heard that in awhile. I'll be back in a few minutes-I have to go listen to that and I'll be back-what a monster blues number that is-great words and laid-back blues-wow-Thanks for the reminder.
Great lesson Andy.
Hands down Keef fave - Tumbling Dice. No question.
I'm a Bluegrass banjo picker. I like the open G on guitar; so much easier for me to get the chords right, when they're like my 5 string!
Quite good Exploration...
I was age 14 when I first fell in love with the sound of slide guitar, courtesy of Brian Jones' playing on "Little Red Rooster." It was the first traditional blues song ever to top the singles chart in the U.K. I brought my vinyl copy of "The Rolling Stones, Now!" to school in the spring of 1965. When my 8th grade classmates heard Brian's slide guitar, they told me my record must be warped.
Very good tutorial
Always Happy to be a Subcriber!!!
Love em all.
Danke❤
This is a great lesson for a beginner guitar player. In 15 minutes they could playing songs and building confidence. 🎉👍
yes it did. 😁
Great job
Great video
Awesome! thx!
good stuff!
Good video. Andy, have you heard about Russian singer Alexander Rosenbaum? He is my favorite singer who plays in open G. And he plays on Ovation 12-strings guitar. Wonderful sound.
Thank you for your good expaination
You are welcome! What other RS songs would you like to see me cover? Let me know!
Thank you. I have a tele that sits in its case feeling unloved so I might have to get it out, trim the 6th string and give open G a go.
Good lesson and beautiful guitar (Vola Vasti).
I'm a complete beginner but have 3 Teles (they're very moorish and each a different pick up layout)so 1 of em is now a 5 string .Great little tutorial cheers .
Rock on!
Beatifull guitar
Fabulous
Alas, the tuning that makes anyone into a rock star!
Great!
Top music lesson
Good teaching skills my friend.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice Vola! I have one of those in “natural”
keep it rock and rolls, I like it.
Great great great
Very nice
Finally run into an English-speaking person who pronounces "capo" properly. What a relief. Thank you. Excellent lesson too. Though I have done a bit of open E tuning, I've never tinkered with open G. More, please.
Play the licks Keith plays on Honky Tonk Women. Oh, brilliant, you are doing the licks! 😊😊
Bello, bello, bello !! 🤘
Brown Sugar. Fab!
just found you and love the video. have you or can you do a lesson on Stop Breaking Down ?
Thanks for sharing this. I play these songs in standard E tuning, but there's some differences that just aren't right.
for me tumbling dice needs to be in the list, is such a infravalorated riff
Rick Beato has a cool video about this topic. Supposedly gimme shelter is also in open g. One day I’ll try it, but back to bass and vocals.
My favourite one is “Happy”, especially the live version from Atlantic City
Open G - What a great happy feel good sound
Fantastic. now I can play like Keith. ( in my dreams)
I haven't tried any trick tuning since high school. Maybe just time one guitar to open G and try it. Haven't used a capo since high school either. Always thought it was cheating. At least that's what I was taught by some of my mentors. But thanks! New ideas
Sadly, a low E string was killed in the making of this video. 😢 You could have just tuned the poor fello to D. On Moonlight Mile, Mick tuned down to G. Basically a banjo tuning.
It was just daft. The guitar is pretty stupid looking, too.
I saw an interview with Richards and he emphasised that the reason not to have the bottom string active was to make sure the root note of the chord is G. I have a Tele set up like him with 5 strings and I use my usual 10-46 set but move them up a notch so that the top string is 13 and the bottom 5th string is the 46. (a spare 10 is always useful for other guitars) There doesn't seem to be a lot of bending involved with Open G Stones songs so heavier strings work for me.
How long have you been playing andy ?
Just watched KEEF do this(again) on late night last week. This video is so good.
