So true, every time there's a redemption arc, no matter how well-written it is, anime fans complain about it nonstop because they just want the villains to get beat up. In this day and age, I consider myself a closet anime fan. Because it’s not something I’m ashamed or anything. I’m just the type of person who typically keeps my interests to myself due to how downright cringey and seriously most communities take it. Be it involving shipping, waifus, husbandos, the typical “my favorite [blank] is better than yours” argument & etc. It just goes to show how closed-minded & self-centered they are. To each their own.

For me, it was first day of college. I was wearing a DBZ compression shirt. It was a simple black shirt with the majin logo on it. That was all. One fatass stereotypical weeb comes along while I'm familiarising myself with the schedules with my new awkward friends and that guy just sorta snorts and asks if I'm a DBZ fan. I wanted new friends since it was the first day, so I genuinely smiled and said yeah, its my fave show since childhood.

I'm from Brazil man and we literally had the worst case of cancer fandom recently.
Originally when CSM manga was translated to BR, it came through independent translators who translate the part where Aki finds the Future Demon, into something in the likes of: "The future is F*ckin awesome"
Now with the proper manga and official industries behind it, one of (if not THE) Brazil's best voice actor Guilherme Briggs, was meant to play a main role with portuguese dubbed version, but he's openly against the crude translation as he has to be the most gentle and wholesome person ever on the world
Long story short, Brazil's incels and this godawful fandom (noting only Brazil's) made death threats to him on TT, plus all the homophobic and transphobic posts directed to him

He later left the entire dubbed project due to this

A little later in the manga, during sequence of Farnese and Schierke going in the corridor of dreams, basically the dreams of Casca, in Chapter 354 we can see Schierke saying : "Here we are. This is what broke Casca, the main cause ! It comes flowing in, the scream of Casca. A mind inarticulare, torn asunder.." followed by a picture of Casca during her rape by Femto, being slowly destroyed and becoming this doll with only the skull and a little bit of torso left. Everything is said. The rape of Femto was the main reason why she became so mentally broken, and there isn't even room to interpretation anymore when, before this sequence, we could POSSIBLY speculate that she COULD enjoy it in some kind of way, but now it's impossible. Game over the "Casca enjoyed it" motherfuckers.

I feel like one of the the biggest issues with communities is when people make whatever it is their life. I understand manga series can have a profound effect on people. My discovery of berserk lead me down a long rabbit hole of self reflection and thought. I have ptsd and seeing another character like guts go thru something similar to me (obviously way worse I ain’t one of those “he just like me” dudes) and find some level of healing is very inspiring. But by no means do I worship the property. It’s not what holds my world together. Some of these people take a critique of their favorite series as a personal attack and just go apeshit over it. Like dude breathe.
I feel like this is becoming more common even in non anime fandoms and it sucks. Its really bad in gaming fandoms as well imo, but yeah anime fans are a special brand of that sometimes, glad I grew past my jojo phase though i dont regret it either
@@idontcheckmynotifications I think some part of it is just growing up. We’re all a little cringy with our likes and hobbies as a kid and even into being a young adult. The issue is when your hitting 25-30 and still haven’t grown up past it. Or worse, doubling down on that behavior. For whatever reason anime has a special breed of this.
The worst part is that some of that people will behave like that show is the best thing even conceived by mankind.

I just never understood the fandom aspect of anime. I understand liking a series or a character, but never to the point where I forget about living. If someone hates what I like it is not the end of the world. Also, it doesn’t take much for an anime to please me, just be consistent enough. I do have my moments when it comes to story, but that’s anything. When something is bad with my hero I don’t get why or do but keep it pushing. An example is I hated Yasuke, but choose to talk about it with my friends who also hated it. In all fans of media need to live life.
I’m also in my 30s, live alone and work full time.

If there’s any anime fanbase that is truly degenerate, it’s that of Neon Genesis Evangelion. It’s the ultimate irony; a fandom, dedicated to praising a series that portrays the cost of trauma, downplayed my own. I’ve been cyberbullied by them for three years, especially during Lockdown when I sought emotional refuge in the fandom. It felt absolutely devastating how they treated my depression like a complete joke at a time when I was most vulnerable. To this day I’m still recovering.
Hey, don't know how things may be hard for you right now, but keep going champ, maybe you need something new, try watching Breaking Bad, or just simply stay away from the internet, like I say, enjoy a product but NEVER get into the community, your doing good lad! 👍

The thing I really hate is when people try to make you feel ashamed for which anime you like. I remember I was peacefully reading a MHA manga one time, a bunch of people kept telling me to "Go watch dragon ball. Stop reading" or smth. Some anime fans just do too much.

The fanbase is known for being toxic as hell but one thing that pisses me off to no end is how forgiving they are in the face of mediocrity.
For example, the 3 episode rule. I never apply this rule to any kind of medium but for some reason, anime fans insist I need to be that generous to enjoy something. This is even more confounding because many anime fans watch like 10 shows a season at a time. That results in a minimum of 12 and a half hours you need to dedicate for anime fans to think you gave a fair chance to 10 shows in a season.
I got chastised for giving up watching a show like 20 minutes in, and people insist that people ought to watch 3 times that. And it's ultimately not even that rewarding. There are rarely 2 or 3 shows in a season that are worth watching, and you mean to tell me you give chances to multiple shows when statistically less than half are going to be remembered past the time it was broadcasted.
NO, I will spend my time however I want, giving shows even a single episode is too charitable and I don't value the online discussion of an on-going show enough to afford that much time in the season.

Unpopular opinion about anime fans:
1.People meat ride sub way too much
2. Most of the anime fans in the modern era just follow the media and trends just to fit in the community.
3. Most anime fans like to meat ride new anime series and overhype it while trashing the old animes.
4. Saitama fans are basically Goku fans but worse because of how hypocritical they are.
5. There is some moments where Japanese voice actors did horrible with the voicing acting that the western fans don’t even realize.
6. Even though Dragon ball plot is simple, it’s one of the most misunderstood shows in shonen anime
almost agree except the subs but I respect people who prefers dubs to subs
dragon ball with bleach are misunderstood in shonen, and there are more that just don't follow the same path as one piece and naruto with their main characters having that special goal
