Ah, I had commented before, but apparently not hit the “send / comment” button.
Thanks so much for sharing, Eric. Yes, the skies are beautiful and so are the birches.
These birches do have kind of a special meaning for me/us. My personal coach used the birch as an analogy for gifted people: it’s a very versatile tree that tends to grow in place where other trees cannot grow yet. E.g. it needs it space etc. And once it starts growing it provides shelter / opportunity for other trees/plants to grow in the newly developing area.
One thing that struck me as we travelled through Sweden is, indeed, the sheer amount of birches, and even entire forests - more than in any other place I’ve been around the world.
A funny detail is that those birches started to show their colorful yellow-ish colors more readily as we traveled up north by train: still green in the south, but by the evening in the north many of them were yellow-ish already. We essentially traveled through 2 seasons in one day, from summer to fall :)
But the other thing I had started wondering if this presence of so many birches also signified something about the people. Do we have more gifted / awakened / aware / connected people in Sweden? And the more I learn about the country and its people, the more I start to believe that to be true.
You folks certainly seem like an example. But there’s also the thing with the “leaving the door unlocked in the cabin” that Annabel talked about in your latest post. And that is another example of how folks up there - even more in the north indeed - are connected to the area around them, and to the people living in it or roaming around in it.
And from my perspective, I guess all of this helps me to understand (at a conscious level) why I feel attracted so inexplicably strong to the area since we visited. So please keep them coming, those posts. 🌟🔥😍

@@copernicanrevolution2.091 what a nice analogy about the birches. Never thought about it that way. They are special trees indeed, for surviving the cold here.
So if you like birches, then Lapland is the place for you 😄
And yes people up here are special!

Hej! As a fågelskådare (bird watcher) I must ask if you have set up a feeding station? If not you really should do it, it's very relaxing to sit and watch the birds eating. And you can compete within the family who spots most species. Also spend some time during winter to build fågelholkar (bird boxes) and also boxes for bats. The tennants will help reduce the gnats and mosquitos around your house. If you like these ideas I can send you some useful links if you tell me your e-mail.

@@micscwisby7798 Thanks so much for the tips! We actually just hung up a feeding station!☺️ Ready there are a lot of birds coming to eat.
Great idea to play that game with the family.
The bird and bat boxes I will definitely look into. Do you think there are still bats so far north? Because I haven't seen any since we live here!

@@EricNatureMovies The species nordfladdermus has been found as far north as Kiruna, so there might be some in your area too. Google "Fladdermusarter i Sverige". Look for "Slåttergubben ekologisk fågelmat", lots of useful reading on bird feeding. As for bird boxes, just google "ritning fågelholk". Just remember when you put them up, flugsnappare (flycatchers) and mesar (tits) are territorial and don't like neighbors so keep a distance of 40-50 meters beetween the boxes. Stare (starling) doesn't mind living in colonies so no distance needed. And no need to climb a ladder, just put the boxes 1,5 - 2 m up, it will make cleaning much easier.

Its this.. old swedish doing.. we didnt have cars then.. but anyhow.. time to put on the inner windows.. soo its kinda the same time to change tires on the cars.. better befor then be sorrow!
And it was more importante to have all the firewood redy for winter!

    • @EricNatureMovies
      @EricNatureMovies  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Sorry, I probably appear like an amateur, but what are inner windows?😅
Yes firewood and tires is both important I think. But for heat we rely on our jordvärme, so we really don´t need a lot of firewood. But now the wood is inside😉

@@EricNatureMovies Inner windows was at old time a lose window to put on the inside to make double windows.. extra isolation at winter! I do hope you dont have single glas windows.. but if you have.. there should be inner windows stored somewhere in a barn or they are gonn, becuse former owner used your house as a summer cottage! Im sure an older neighbour can explaine everything.. and altso the tricky thing to use them.. it was at a time a whole sciens, to avoid condensation and moisture! And to decorate the space between those windows!
Jordvärme is great.. to lower your energy bill and should brake even after 5-10 years.. but its still a low temperature output system.. good for 9 months a year.. its a heatpump system! The other 3 months, you need to top up in peak cold with other energy sources.. electricity or fireewood or both!
Soo you have fireplaces, nice.. ask an old neighbour about the limitation on how to use them.. and your chimeny sweeper!
All your fireplaces must be controled and authorised by the comunity chimney sweeper authority, befor its used! Its a saefty thing in towns, but altso an insurance recuirment!
Soo you gonna learn.. its just an adjustment to another climate zon!
Then some tricks to survive up in a cold north.. and to save money/electricity bill/firewood, use slippers indoors.. in worst case long johns and double/triple bed blankets.. its normal to have different blankets on different seasons!

@@stiglarsson8405 Wow thank you again for a lot of great tips!
We do have double windows. I know this because I restored a couple of windows (new glass, new kitt new paint). So hopefully this will be good enough.
We also had the chimney sweeper a couple of weeks ago, so we can light up the chimney!🔥🔥
So I think we are ready for winter! Feels kind of weird that it has been so warm here the last couple of days!

@@EricNatureMovies Great.. double glass ´windows is "modern".. early 1900.. kinda 1930-1940 for in a house you bought, for farmers/forest owners.. or in the north both.. or in the north mostly forrest owner!
Soo you restored the double glas windows.. nice, you did a "historical" effort.. its not that difficult.. but Im still impressed that you did it! And for your long time staying there is "Glasmästare" that still do such a things.. especialy up in the north! Its like everything up in the north.. its a lot of distance to everything.. and especialy to realy good craftsmen/plumbers/electrians/carpenters.. and "glasmästare"! Its this.. out in the countryside.. and even more up in the north.. one need to plan.. its not that difficult if one know the seasons!
Its the same with your cars, spiked tires is usefull.. becuse roads goes frome snow to ice.. 4 wheel drive is optional.. its more a middle class sign!
Its this.. 4 wheel drive never ever gonna save you in a icy road situation!
Spiked winter tyres and all other features like ABS/anti-everything that is in modern cars!
