@philliporne2287 that's just gm gimmick, the law of physics here is just what I described. I drive a auto semi with vgt brake, the lighter it is the more non service brakes grip me
I drive an 18 3500 dmax non dually for work and its not a bad truck, but far off from peak gm. So far the main issues ive had are bad oil pan gaskets and transmission confusion at low speeds. Besides that though the truck is great inside and out.
@ChaseLandMgmt gms are proportional..more load, more break. Mine works awsome when under heavy load but on light loads it's almost non existent. Ram and ford give you everything regardless of load and at times are overkill.
10 spd adds to people not noticing it snd they don't know to manually shift the truck down. One youtube search would solve all the issues these comments have.
You bought a work truck! Not a Prius! Don't expect to get ridiculous gas mileage for what you purchased. Its a work truck. GM used to put w/t on them so people understand that it's a work truck. Scratches, dings, and dents are expected. And real truck guy's see those marks as a badge of honor. Ford, Dodge, it doesn't matter. Meaning that you actually use that truck for something other than a showpiece. And brother.....its a GM!!! With proper maintenance, that truck will last for decades. I say this as a GMC fan of course. All my GMC trucks have 300,000 plus miles and still run perfectly, with proper maintenance.
I have a 19 and everything works great. The exhaust break is not real strong but you can feel it especially with a trailer. I get 16 mpg calculated at the pump but 19 on the trucks computer thing. I do t have all the fancy shit just a base truck, it's all I can afford. Also tow haul mode and cruise on it seems to engine break all on its own without the button pushed. This works great in the mountains. It held a great speed just the bed loaded full of painting equipment from vail to Denver that's three big hills. Up and down.
I've got a first generation Duramax. The mileage at the pump is always less than the computer says it's getting. I've got a friend with a late model gas engine, and his does the same thing. The speedometer and odometer are correct, so I can't understand how the computer figures the mileage is so much better.
I hear ya and what gets me is BTBRV TH-cam channel says he’s happy with the fact he’s 2019 F450 gets 6-8 mpg pulling his 36’ filth wheel and 10-12 not pulling anything. And he says that new trucks are so much more dependable than older ones well maybe so but I’d rather work on my older Ram dually and be getting 14-16 mpg pulling my 40’ gooseneck loaded with 26 rolls of hay at 65 mph and getting 17-20 mpg not pulling at 80 mph
I just bought pretty much the same truck mines a Chevy z71 I have all the amenities cooled seats heated seats sunroof everything that these trucks come with & I freakin love mine! I pull a gooseneck & a 8’6” x 16’ cargo trailer that weighs about 12,000 pounds & my exhaust break works perfectly better than my 2017 mega cab. I did have the problem with my tailgate hitting my hitch though 😂
My 6.0 powerstroke has an sct tune which was supposed to bring it to around 375 hp and it gets 20 mpg pulling a trailer and 22 without, i dont understand how the fuel mileage is so low on some of these newer diesels unless its the extra injector in the smog burner.
There was a recall on the fuel injector mapping causing poor fuel mileage. I’m getting mine re-flashed today hoping that helps. I also don’t think you know what the exhaust brake does. The exhaust brake helps slow you down when going down hills etc. It’s not gonna replace your brake pedal and bring you to a complete stop lofl
I love those older 3500 dually's, I heard the transmissions are the weakest link and that most guys go through 3 or 4 over the life of the truck/ cummins. That and the rust... where I am from, finding an older, rust free, dodge truck is next to impossible... and once that rust starts on those it's a big job to save.
@JoshuaOverman we get in more ford's then anyone. I never durmamx here, and rarely any cummin and when it a cummins its the heater coil or ac coil thats out. Not mechanical issues. The fords we have all sittong outside have bad injectors to cracked heads...
@@JoshuaOvermanold and unreliable are two separate things. If you’ve gone through an old truck you can have more reliability because they have less options. Less power too though.
I had a 6.7 dodge with the exhaust brake and a 6 speed automatic and hauled heavy trailers with it. Was definitely over legal weight 90% of the time. @@xxxmaximizerxxx2292 I can agree with that but I would choose a hi-bred gas/electric over 100% EV every time. @@kenlowe8659 Exactly, it is all application, and I agree with the take on Hybrids, they are definitely a good answer for many situations. They get really good gas mileage, and also usually have a long range. Also, many you can just plug in like an electric car and forego gasoline for most trips. Especially in North America where electric cars are lacking due to shorter ranges, the hybrid makes up for that.
Make sure on the exhaust brake that it’s on full and not automatic. Full will start when u let off the gas but automatic will start when u hit the brakes.

The inner tailgate is an issue if you say otherwise you haven’t owned one. My personal biggest complaint is the transmission. It has too many gears and is constantly cycling gears, and it makes the truck basically sit at redline going downhill unless you put it in manual mode
you can disable multiflex tailgate by holding the button to release it for 8-10 seconds, or just dont open the multiflex with a trailer, the rear bumper has steps on either side too

uhh, nah. the lighter the vehicle is, the easier job the easier job engine and exhaust brake has
@@ivonivan1169 the more low that is applied to the back of the truck going down the hill the more effective the exhaust break will be the ECM controls the exhaust break and went to engage it and it has the sense that your foot is completely off the gas and sometimes it won’t apply unless you’re on the brakes
@philliporne2287 that's just gm gimmick, the law of physics here is just what I described. I drive a auto semi with vgt brake, the lighter it is the more non service brakes grip me
My 3500 cummins highway 22 without trailer. With trailer 18, just towed last weekend.
My 18 is the newest I would consider gm 😅exhaust brake works great.. 10 speed issues because you really can’t feel it?
I drive an 18 3500 dmax non dually for work and its not a bad truck, but far off from peak gm. So far the main issues ive had are bad oil pan gaskets and transmission confusion at low speeds. Besides that though the truck is great inside and out.
I take it you haven’t been in a Ram? Ford and GM exhaust brakes have 1/3 of the retarding horsepower.
@ChaseLandMgmt gms are proportional..more load, more break. Mine works awsome when under heavy load but on light loads it's almost non existent. Ram and ford give you everything regardless of load and at times are overkill.
@@ChaseLandMgmtDoesn't Cummins have a real Jake Brake? Exhaust and Engine brakes are different.
My F150 gets 17.2 pulling a small trailer and 13.5 with 7,000 lb and my tailgate doesn't hit my hitch. 😂 They all have there good and bad.
Where do you live. Sounds rather flat
Depends on the speed you're moving and how often you stop.
Most I get in my F-150 is 15-16 Highway but mine has 280k miles and 21 years old
if only Toyota had a 1 ton diesel truck here! we can always dream...
That's sad move to Japan
Try using the exhaust brake with the manual gearing while you slow down. I think that's when the brake will engage.
No it’s not
@@mattrueworthy1507 Do you drive one?
Never am I buying a new truck. Specially with a bunch of bells and whistles that do nothing but break. 😊
You know what's not big, beefy?
Aaa, you?
🤣
I hear ya and what gets me is BTBRV TH-cam channel says he’s happy with the fact he’s 2019 F450 gets 6-8 mpg pulling his 36’ filth wheel and 10-12 not pulling anything. And he says that new trucks are so much more dependable than older ones well maybe so but I’d rather work on my older Ram dually and be getting 14-16 mpg pulling my 40’ gooseneck loaded with 26 rolls of hay at 65 mph and getting 17-20 mpg not pulling at 80 mph
Dude I would buy a 6.0 powerstroke before I bought one of these new trucks ! At least you could still get a 6.0with a manual trans
Switched from 21 duramax to 22 f250. After having 4 duramax’s i can tell you that new 10 speed is shit. Still love the motor tho
Get a 2024 duramax next. They are amazing
@@JoshuaOvermanand the payments keep adding up
How so? I have a 2020 Silverado 3500 SRW with close to 200,000 miles, and aside from emissions bullshit, the truck has always performed pretty well
Thats the best GMC horn ive heard in 20 years.
Banks darringer is the only thing ill say its awesome on these trucks helped my mpg out to 21 to 23
Ezlynk is good too
Deleting it would be better.
That’s my dream truck… GMC AT4, white in black. 😍
Awww poor thing
His pussy probably hurts after this vid😂
That horn is so cute!
My last GM was my last GM I had to go back to my 1974 Ford with 499,000 miles that I could depend on
My 6.0 powerstroke has an sct tune which was supposed to bring it to around 375 hp and it gets 20 mpg pulling a trailer and 22 without, i dont understand how the fuel mileage is so low on some of these newer diesels unless its the extra injector in the smog burner.
Get u an older dodge 3500 Cummins with 6 speed manual transmission and delete all the stock crap on it and add some power to it, it will run forever
Junk to old and unreliable he’s better with the 2024
I love those older 3500 dually's, I heard the transmissions are the weakest link and that most guys go through 3 or 4 over the life of the truck/ cummins.
Lol you can’t be serious I really hope you’re not
I had a 6.7 dodge with the exhaust brake and a 6 speed automatic and hauled heavy trailers with it. Was definitely over legal weight 90% of the time. What I hated about the exhaust brake setup was as you were coming to a stop and it downshifted to first it didn’t break anymore unless you manually downshifted
The new emissions bs chokes em up so badly. You used to be able to get way more MPGs. Kind of ironic.
definitely something wrong with the driver or truck, the ford and gm trucks with 10 speeds are getting up to 20 from what i've seen around
Saving the world one plastic jug at a time.
@Obamanamamama Unloaded on the highway I get around 22-24. City driving is around 17 or 18
That horn is a DOT requirement, there is a minimum and maximum DB level as well as distance to be heard.
I'll take my 6.7 Cummins ant day !!!
Couldn't keep mine out of the shop

@trevorshark16 yep and air, and fuel filters per the owners service manual. Also rotated tires every 5k but the antiquated solid axle chews up tire shoulders on the front end.
A big modern truck towing something? That's a rare sight
With all the issues with that truck it’s still 100% better than any EV on the road.
Apples and oranges though
Or they both have their uses and they are the right tools for a different job. The EV is phenomenal for around town city driving. However if I’m looking to tow 10k lbs, I’m gonna choose the truck any day. It’s just about application.
@@xxxmaximizerxxx2292 I can agree with that but I would choose a hi-bred gas/electric over 100% EV every time. My son-law is a chemical engineer schooled in renewable energy and he feels the way plus he owns a hi-bred and loves it. But for towing, heavy work and just plain beating the hell out of your truck in a bog, gas power is the only way.
You mean the two other EV trucks that are out?
LOL
Make sure on the exhaust brake that it’s on full and not automatic. Full will start when u let off the gas but automatic will start when u hit the brakes.
Obviously you don't know that you can lock that second small tailgate part from coming down by holding the button 3 seconds and it will lock it out so that way it won't fall down when you open the tailgate! You didn't know about that did you maybe you need to start doing some more research on the truck
Or u could save 10 grand and just get a normal truck and not be a princess
@@paulrenne1938the tailgate is a 400$ option.
My tail gate step never lowers on its own whenever I hit the button for the tailgate to lower.
Nice truck man
2020 and up powerstroke is literally the only way to go
Wrong 2024 L5P on top
Lol...only way to go..back to the dealership for oil leaks and wiring issues. And don't close the doors, the windows will crack.
Not gonna lie these ford guys have the most power stock now and it went straight to there heads but they can have there little 8 cylinder stroke I like my thick connecting rods and torque that can hold and if that's not enough all I need is a clutch more fuel and more air and the numbers go up dramatically and of course 20 grand to do it good but u could literally spend less to bump the torque over 1000 but then u gotta be careful I'm not sure what a 6.7 can take stock but ik it's got more torque available than an 8 but the 8s make more horsepower and if u don't get the fancy stuff u can spend 50 to 60 for the truck and spend 20 on the good stuff which goes for all of them but it's easier on a 6.7 and I will make more if u have money and ya the same goes for v8s but your gonna get a lot farther with a 6.7 than a 6.6 or v8 6.7 before going full billet
And yes my 6 speed is not fast I top out at like 80 pushing 2000 something rpm I could go to 3200 but It not necessary and my cluch shakes enough at 2200 to 2300 and that only when I'm fuckin around normally shift at 1500 or just above and I got 3.42 rear gear lol unlike all the ford's I hear screaming to find a gear would like to see a manual ford 6.7 to compare properly but ya v8 diesels been chasing i6 for power and reliability from the start and your 7.3 is not powerful it just has tourqe unlike your 460 lol
@paulrenne1938 rams are dead last.
On paper, they look great. In the real world, they are the slowest and eat turbos. But at least they are easy to work on.
And gm design and build transmission is not just disappointing
Damn that is literally 18 wheeler gas mileage
If u have an 18 wheeler that gets 14 mph holler at me I want to buy it
@@pr0n5tar I think he’s saying loaded, I used to drive a international pro star and a new lt. the pro star did like 7.5 mpg at 60000 pounds the lt was just over 8. So a pick up truck at let’s say 30k getting 6.5 is disappointing.

Should of bought a powerstroke!!
Ford carried 2015-2022 but gmc on top now
Would have more issues if they did. Plus the CP4 issues. No thanks
The fact it goes to the shop constantly is what you will actually hate

No complaints with my 2023 F350 Tremor 6.7 HO

Only because you are a Ford lover. GMC HD best tow rig in history !
False
***Important to note --- your performance and economy will continue to get better and better up to roughly 25k miles. And you'll notice DEF usage continues to get better and better also. I have an 18 L5P with a documented, 490k miles...all the work done at the GM dealer --- was getting on average 17k miles per month until taken out of service in 22. First DPF went 210k miles...2nd one went 225k. Be good to your truck --- by the way...pull often...and be real careful how you apply and take off the torque...being under load and really heating the DPF is really good to burn it clean.
Should of gotten a ram truck u can get a real Jake brake for the Cummins
No you can't. They have a turbo brake just like GM and Ford
You can disable the upper part of the tailgate by holding the upper button for 8 seconds or so. Tail lights blink three times.
You must have the key fob with you.
So, just disable it when you have a hitch in.
Delete it and get like 20 mpg
Yes. Deleted my 15 6.7 powerstroke. Was getting 9-10 mpg. Now getting 17-18.
2018 Ram 2500 6.7l Cummins. Average 20 mpg unloaded and the exhaust brake in tow/haul mode will just about put you in the dashboard if you're not buckled in.
I bought a sle model for a work truck. Tows the skidsteer nice seems to be plenty of power. Exhaust brake feels more like downshifting. I wasn’t very impressed. Overall I like the truck only complaint is the transmission started leaking oil around 3k miles
I like the looks of the GMC trucks but I love my 2019 Laramie 1500 5.7 Hemi Max tow it's a beast for a halftime my truck has the exhaust brake it works very well
Gale Banks did a complete teardown of the 2024 and 2023 L5P to show the difference, he did go over the "engine braking" thing.
I’ve got a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD with the Duramax and with stock wheels on the open road I was getting like 19MPG. I put 22” rims and bigger tires and now I get around 15-16MPG. I do think I was having the same power step issue.
Duramaxes use a 9th injector method for the dpf. If you delete it and do some tuning I wouldn’t be surprised to see that thing getting somewhere around 25 mpg
I move shipping containers with a 23’ gmc 3500hd
Unloaded with no trailer i average about 18-19mpg and 24mpg cruising on the highway +70mph
With my 20’ trailer container i average about 16mpg on the highway unloaded and 11mpg loaded with a 20’ container
With the 40’ trailer i average about 11-12mpg unloaded and 7mpg loaded with a 40’ container
The exhaust brake could use a major improvement(I’ve been so hard on mine that the CEL came on and wouldn’t let me turn it on, then the next morning worked fine) when it does engine it works but it feels like it never engages when you want it to.
The inner tailgate is an issue if you say otherwise you haven’t owned one.
My personal biggest complaint is the transmission. It has too many gears and is constantly cycling gears, and it makes the truck basically sit at redline going downhill unless you put it in manual mode
Can’t beat the dodge exhaust brake. I was very disappointed feeling ford and chevys after dodge worked so well
you can disable multiflex tailgate by holding the button to release it for 8-10 seconds, or just dont open the multiflex with a trailer, the rear bumper has steps on either side too
I have never once felt an exhaust brake work in any truck😂
That’s what happens when we let lawmakers dictate our technology for emissions. We learn that gas mileage isn’t any better with small displacement engines and or stop start technology unless you use it as a mall crawler
Milage will go up. Takes 8k miles before they pick up, mine gets 16 towing 7k and 23 empty flat ground unloaded at 65. Close door all the way step stays up, exhaust brake works when it needs too.
I Really like the LB-7s I have had a couple for Work trucks in life and for personal trucks and they have held up pretty good .
Yuppy. You could be hauling heavy machines maybe skids around the country. Make good money. Nice truck.
Only use tow mode if your hauling very heavy loads will help your mpg. For a better horn go to a junk yard and get a pair off any GM eary to mid 1980s big boats.
My Dad had a Ford with a gas engine 460 engine and it got 12 mpg empty. It was an F-350 4 door with dual rear wheel automatic transmission with overdrive. Loaded with a 5th wheel camper 36ft. The truck still got 12 mpg. Now explain that. Dad only used 87 regular unleaded gasoline. The year model was 1996 . I know that was years ago . But I think that was pretty good back then. The truck had two gas tanks that came with the truck and me and Dad added a 100 gallon tank in the bed so we wouldn’t have to stop so much for gas when going on vacation.
The exhaust break thing seems odd to me. I've got a 2024 Ram 2500 Cummins exhaust break engages as soon as i let off the petal tow haul or not.
My 1990 Cadillac Brougham with a 350 Fuel Injection motor, while fully loaded got 27 mpg on the highway. I could get 22 mpg pulling a horse trailer with two horses in back.
That's no better than the 454 on my 98 dually. She's still a beautiful truck
You need a new F450 bro, they’re the best. Ive had mine 4 years and it’s my last truck I’ll own other than a newer model 🫰
I had a tundra that would get 6mpg pulling an 18 foot trailer. I feel your pain
This is what people with daddy’s money be constantly complaining about, common man
Cadillac style I wouldn’t worry about that fuel cost. Look at them sunglasses you got the money
Exhaust brakes in pickups nowadays need to have a decent load behind it for them to work they way they suppoda
The exhaust brake needs to breath. 5inch pipe straight off a 3.5 inch down pipe behind the turbo works miracles on these L5P Duramax’s.
You can program the tailgate to not drop in 2 parts if needed.
Use your gear selecter for the exhaust brake on flats on down hills it’ll do it keep the rpm’s up and you’ll feel it
I. got a 2020 duramax 3500hd. It's a beast. I never used my horn. 20 mpg average. Dudes a crumb.
