    Really helpful hint** I could not get a firmware update to work until I used a 2 Gb SD card formatted as a FAT format. I tried many different firmware versions and have been working on it for what seemed like forever. (At least 2 weeks) So if you are having issues with a firmware update try finding an SD card that you can format in FAT. This works great for a ramps 1.4, I use mine on my modified robo 3d R1 printer that I turned into a dual extruder printer. I could not be happier.

    I see MKS TFT28 has its own powerful ARM CPU on board, seems it technically just mimics host PC connected over USB-serial. But it passes by FTDI chip and hooks on UART pints of RAMPS board directly.

    Hi Robert, thanks for making this video. Sometimes getting information is tough. I just got a tft28 and before I let the smoke escape I've been trying to find out what display definition you used. Secondly, Do you know which library is needed for the display? Thanks!

      Hi Ken,
      Sorry I've haven't checked in, in a very long time. Regarding the display function, I just plugged the thing in and it worked out of the box. I hadn't bothered to dig too much into the device.

    Just managed to connect to a SaintSmart 2-1 board. Pins on AUX aren't as MKS or Ramps, you need to make an adapter .
    Have you or know of other Firmware/s for this display.
    I've changed afew settings in config using Notepad but not able to do alot.
    Doesn't have all the functions of a Full graphics display , doesn't have Status screen , Preheat are done manually ,ETC.
    Not as good as I hoped for.
    Got both connected for Best of both!

      I kept both connected for quite a while. But finally began to just use the MKS all the time.

    I'm trying to research this TFT before I buy it, but finding documentation on it is tough. Generally though, I understand that it uses a 32bit chip, what I don't understand is if it replaces the Mega, or is that still needed under the RAMPS to get power to everything?

    • @RobertLBarnard
      @RobertLBarnard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      It still needs the RAMPS. It is just a human interface for the RAMPS. But you can run it right alongside the stock (human) interface screen if you wish, because the TFT uses different ports and cable.
      Another option is to connect a Raspberry Pi to the USB of your RAMPS and install Octaprint, then run it from your computer and/smart phone. Cost is about the same.....then again you wouldn't have a need for print the little swivel case I designed ;)
      Thanks for checking in. Best regards.

      @MichaelJeffers75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobertLBarnard I have the Pi already, but was considering the MKS option because I've read that with the MKS, the user can recover the progress through the Gcode after a loss of power. Also, only needing one strip of cable to connect to the AUX3 bank on the RAMPS would free up AUX1 that the stepper drivers want to default to using.
      I'll put more thought into using the Pi and Octoprint as I already have that.

    Great video! Did you have to change anything in Marlin in order to get this working?

    • @RobertLBarnard
      @RobertLBarnard  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Martin.
      Marlin didn't require any changes.
      I literally plugged the cable in, powered it up, and "played".
      Cheers!

    Thanks! Autolevel question - where do you have your bed sensor connected? Do you still have a Z- endstop switch? I'm Not sure what its looking for. It will level, but then go home and try to look for a switch there.

    • @RobertLBarnard
      @RobertLBarnard  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still use the proximity sensor, not far to the right of the hotend. The machine has never been all the way to the Z, which is about 13 inches.
      One self inflicted issue I've had is, using the office metal clips on the bed, I've placed them near where the proximity sensor probes. The result are false readings were the bed's Z may be, and subsequent error in the leveling adjustment.

    • @ilretaggio2
      @ilretaggio2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have some questions:
      What kind of sensor do you use?
      At what height does the sensor see?
      My proximity sensor reads too close to the bed plate and I can't use a print glass so I'm looking for a better sensor.
      do you have any advice for me ?

    Do you know how to change the preheat value for the nozzle?

      Chris,
      Thanks for the quick response, I actually got it worked out, just had to update the firmware to English. Download the MKS-TFT-master files from github
      github.com/makerbase-mks/MKS-TFT
      Extract the the files, then go to the MKSTFT_V1.1.0_English folder then, then to the MKSTFT_FIRMWARE_English_V1.1.0 folder, there you will find the following files/folder:
      mks_config
      mkstft28.bin
      Folder: mks_pic
      Copy them into the root directory of an SD Card (do not edit the names of the files). Insert the SD Card into the controller and it will do the update automatically. All the text will then be in English and all the icons change as well. Mine worked right out of the gate, no problems at all.
      Sonny

    what of kind of amps does the board require (need to match it with a 12v power supply so i wanna make sure it won't tax it, also can i use the USB connector to power up a usb lamp?

    so this wouldn't work with a 24v power supply then would it?

    • @RobertLBarnard
      @RobertLBarnard  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi Guy,
      24v would probably do the thing in.
      The voltage selector is for 5v or 12v only. (I haven't tried it, but) documentation seems to imply you can supply 12v internally.
      I use an external supply since my printer's board is near capacity.
      Hope that answers you question.

      Thank you!
      The LDC screen you're talking about....is it the Smart Controller (most common to Marlin)? Or are you talking of the MKS TFT28?
      To get my MKS TFT28 working, I didn't have to remove the Smart Controller. But I did follow the instructions (see above, also here github.com/makerbase-mks/MKS-TFT/blob/master/MKS-TFT28%20DataSheet.pdf). Mainly, the 12 volt jumper option.
      Nothing on Marlin needed to change.

      i am talking about MKS TFT28 . I am trying to run this lcd with ramps 1.4
      here is the my steps about what i did. i am using mks tft 28 v1.2
      1) my marlin sofware baud 115200, motherboard 33 , and any lcd is activated all off them closed
      2)i am changing the mks tft pin to 12v then i am uptading the mks software to v1.1.2 english
      3)then wiring aux 1 to tft
      4)power up ramps and tft28
      5) change baud on tft
      6) and nothing happens on fan
      and i just wired t0 t1 and fan on ramps when i am tring to start fan unfortunately nothing happens anything

      Ömer,
      That's great news!
      That hadn't occurred to me. But as I think about it, I've heard of people having issues with their 3D printers because they've gotten an Arduino that wasn't quite the same as the original.
      I'm very glad you've gotten it working!
      Please post some video of your setup.

    Can someone tell me if i can connect this MKS TFT28 to ZRIB V3.2 main board. And if this is possible how can i do it, because i dont like standard 5 buttons lcd.

      It works well, Mike.
      Actually, the ribbon cable in the video is connected to the RAMPS board's serial port.
      I also left the old panel connected to the RAMPS as well, the two can work concurrently!
      Oh, as per the comments below, you may have to upgrade the firmware if it comes up in Chinese. I didn't have to do this step. :(

      Ok, so it's not working, other than getting the display's firmware to update, and it didn't work with an actual Mega 2560 instead of the Re-Arm board. Not over the serial into Aux-1 anyways. I'm gonna need an adapter for Aux-4 or one of the displays actually supported by Re-Arm
