One more mod I forgot to mention, or, more accurately, NOT a mod, was that I left the higher bars on this bike, even though it has the catalogue fairing. The OEM fairing kit comes with lower clip-ons, which make the bike less comfortable around town, but I was surprised (and pleased) to discover the fairing also fits with the factory bars, so I left them on. My 2016 bike had the lower bars fitted from the factory, and I found the riding position hard work in traffic, so I am much happier with this new setup. If you do a lot of A roads or track-days the lower clip-ons will give better handling on fast corners, but if you ride around town a lot (or are tall, or under 30) leave the standard bars on when you add the fairing.
Great, that's good to know as i was going to ask about your bars. Think I need to pay my local Triumph dealer a visit ASAP! Great looking bike and nice video Dutch.
I LOVE the Thruxton, such a beautiful bike! When I was ready to upgrade my old 865 Bonnie (another great bike) I rode the Thruxton and the majority of the 1200cc Bonneville range and ultimately chose the T120 because my wrists and back just didn’t like the riding position of the Thruxton. In the 3 plus years of owning the T120, I’ve modded it to resemble the Thruxton as closely as I can without changing the OEM handlebars. Still working on the right front fairing but she’s a real beauty and gets alot of love from the local Cafe Racer crowd.
@@particleinthewave8378 You're not the first to do this... I think that's why they made the Speed Twin, which is essentially a Thruxton with handlebars. I'd be interested in retro-modding this model to look more like a T120 or Thruxton and see how far you could go... Or get the handlebar kit from someone like Free Spirits for a Thruxton R.
I did the same... added the fairing but left the higher bars on... I was concerned about clearance because of the internet haha. No problems whatsoever, and it is a welcome contrast to my Ducati

@@dutchvansomeren9943 I think the RR is a lovely looking machine and I did contemplate one, but the more sporty position makes it less comfortable to ride than the Thruxton, nor is it as fun to cruise about on at lower road speeds.
I love mine and I’m never selling it. I bought a new black RS then a couple of months later they announced the chrome edition. I lost a fortune trading in but I don’t give a shit - the chrome edition Thruxton RS is one of the prettiest bikes ever made imho and has all the performance one needs on the road. I went for the Analog tail tidy as it’s excellent quality and every NRC product I have tried was missing pieces and didn’t fit without mods. Cone slip ons are loud enough and give a nice tone. More of these videos. I greatly miss regular and members rides on TH-cam! Never got my answer from Dutch (still waiting) whyd he pick the showcase vs the non-showcase version?
@dutchvansomeren9943 hey Dutch. Showcase version means the one with the dolphin/headlight fairing and lower bars vs. without (non showcase). Maybe it's a states specific dealer triumph term. Now, it makes sense why you've looked confused when I asked this prior in person.
@@FunWithAJ Ah thanks for the clarity. ... Well, the answer is that I've had the Thruxton in RS and Non-R versions, both with and without the dolphin fairing, and both with and without the lower clip-ons, and my preference is; with the fairing - as the design and look is truly iconic - but without the non lower clip-ons, because the higher ones are considerably more comfortable, and they still fit with the fairing ... and you don't notice they are higher once the fairing is on. ... Nothing you said about belt tensions or oil change is true on the Ducati Sport 1000 (Paul Smart). The DS 1000 motors in those models are nearly indestructible. Your Thruxton is lovely and Triumph certainly did a nice job with that model range of bikes. You can’t make a fair comparison between Ducati’s Sport Classic range that entered nearly a full decade before Triumph. Other than that, all I have left to say is, enjoy your ride. 👌🏽
Fair comment Joe. My comparisons are based on them both being a European Cafe-Racer Litre-Twin at around 100bhp, with bikini fairing, re-imagined in a 1960s style, using perfromance suspension and brakes on wire-spoke wheels...But, as you say, they are a decade apart. ...I've had 3 sports classics, which I thrashed, but the GT blew up, dropping the valves into the pistons (ouch) despite being very well maintained and lowest mileage of my SCs. Belt slippage may have been the cause. I also used to be a super-contributor on the SC forums (as "LondonDutch") for three years or so, so from tis experience I agree that in general the DS1000 Hypermotard/SportClassic/Monster engine is a great and reliable unit, but, Reg/Recs do fail or even overheat and catch fire (mine melted my undertray), wiring is far from weatherproof (I always replaced my main wiring when I switched to LI batteries), belts and seals go brittle over time, and most owners I know seem to agree that if you mothball one for a year, check everything before you jump on it and ride it. My PS has been stationary for over two years and I am genuinely scared to start it up without a full service... But maybe I'm being a pussy? My friend in LA has two stunning SC1000s and he rides them hard and often. Anyway, I'm agreeing with you, even though I'm justifying my comments. To me both the Triumph and the Ducati fulfilled my needs for a classic styled modern performance bike, so the comparison feels relevant for me, personally, but - as ou say - being a decade younger the Triumph does have an unfair advantage.
Beautiful bike and love the mods! Where did you get the hollowed out stem for the quad lock? Not really anywhere else to attach one and this seems the perfect solution
Mate you have good taste in bikes 🏍️ loved your previous video on the Ducati sports classic too. Ive got pretty much the same modifications on my black ttrs too besides a difference exhaust and the lights. I found the fairing was abit too much pressure on the wrist and back so had the original risers put back on. Is it significantly comfier than the ducatis?
Wow. I'm second doubting myself now. I own a very special sport classic 1000s with a full fairing, which is very rare. And my favorite 2016 White thruxton 1200, both are for sale and now im second guessing myself. I should keep both and wait it out. 🤔
Dude... Unless you need the money now, or have no spaca to have them, keep them both. If you wanted either one again in five years, you'd struggle to find what you wanted for the sensible money.
Speed Twin wheels on the Thruxton are the way. Triumph should have offered them as an option. I lucked out and found a set cheap on eBay that were like new.
You really meet with Goa if you are running this bike, This is absolutely beauty. Why in Indian market they don't sell.? If there are bikes like this the market people never miss to buy this motorcycle.
I have a 01 daytona and was looking at the bonniville during covid then shifted to Thru xton would probably be still debating until I saw 2025 was the final year so as of June 2024 I had to call multiple states but found one, sent the money and will receive it the last week of June.

I can't understand Triumph's decision to stop production of the Thruxton RS, a real shame from a big factory, a huge blunder and they'll realize it very soon
I'm only 5'9" but I know plenty of very tall Thruxton owners, and it's a long bike. Go and sit on one. Even if you were 6'4" I think you'd be ok, and you could add longer rear shock springs? Which you might need on any modern bike that's not an adv?
Is there any chance you can get/order me a pair of those bsmc engine badges when you get back to London and pick up yours and bring them back to LA? I'll pay of course but itd be great to save on shipping if youre ordering a pair already.

Keep them both. I've got an older Ducati and thruxton rs and have no regrets
@@FunWithAJ I might keep them.
Dude... Unless you need the money now, or have no spaca to have them, keep them both. If you wanted either one again in five years, you'd struggle to find what you wanted for the sensible money.
@@dutchvansomeren9943 makes sense. I'm leaning towards keeping them.
Stunning bike this love it 👍🏻
Speed Twin wheels on the Thruxton are the way. Triumph should have offered them as an option. I lucked out and found a set cheap on eBay that were like new.
Does it feel lighter now?
You really meet with Goa if you are running this bike, This is absolutely beauty. Why in Indian market they don't sell.? If there are bikes like this the market people never miss to buy this motorcycle.
I have a 01 daytona and was looking at the bonniville during covid then shifted to Thru xton would probably be still debating until I saw 2025 was the final year so as of June 2024 I had to call multiple states but found one, sent the money and will receive it the last week of June.
I love the shown badges. Are they for sale in the shop?
Triumph really got it right with the Thruxton. It's not my style of ride as I prefer the T120 but I know a good looking motorcycle when I see it.
I also have a t120 Bonneville and I think the Thuxton is sex on wheels.Being 66yrs young in my mind and having ridden for 61 of those years my body wouldn't cope with the riding position.
We also offer exhausts for t120...in case you wanted to have new pipes like Dutch's! @@JoshuaRoberts-kq9cs
Got a 2013 thruxton 900,except for the tron exhausts its completely standard and i love it! Btw,why are they calling you Dutch? Greetings from holland.
Well said! I've had my Thruxton R for six plus years. I've run mine at the drag strip 55 times and at the Bonneville Salt Flats 19 times with no issues. Link to my last run at Bonneville

Thruxton 400 available in india ❤
Nice piece geeze. Paint it white baby.
Tempting...
What do you use to clean it? Especially on yhe engine casings. It looks so good
I try not to ride it in the rain, LOL. I hate cleaning bikes. ... and when I do, we have a mobile valet who comes to the LA shed every week - "Anthony Autospa". I know. I'm a dick. Sorry.
Where do I buy a triumph thruxtom 400 cafe racer …. I need help here
It is a fantastic bike. I will never sell mine
what are the differences between the R and the RS? thank you
Now I really want to see that wheels' swap
So do I? Anyone got some they wanna swap?
Triumph Thruxton 400 is already being tested on Indian roads based on speed 400 line... It will launch in India next year Q4.
Heard that was a speed triple 400
Oh my god this is pure classic buty I have seen after RoyalEngieldGT 650 and Sports bike which is MV Augusta
Lots of great bikes out there these days. I also have a 650 Royal Enfield which I love.
That bike is very heavy and also engine heats up at an extreme level, not for indian. roads. But is pure beauty which you have, If this is lunch in the Indian market, more buying you will see. @@dutchvansomeren9943
Hi Guys, Which Thruxton is better? 1200 or the smaller one? Pls comment below
I can't understand Triumph's decision to stop production of the Thruxton RS, a real shame from a big factory, a huge blunder and they'll realize it very soon
Goog morning .How tall are you? . I have doubts about whether it's too small for me . Thanks ¡¡
I'm only 5'9" but I know plenty of very tall Thruxton owners, and it's a long bike. Go and sit on one. Even if you were 6'4" I think you'd be ok, and you could add longer rear shock springs? Which you might need on any modern bike that's not an adv?
Dont change the rims. The originals really nice with what you got.
I know... but sometimes I just have to meddle!
Start the motor!
Will a 2010 be valuable as well?
Yes I think so. All year Thruxton 1200s seem to hold their price.
Is there any chance you can get/order me a pair of those bsmc engine badges when you get back to London and pick up yours and bring them back to LA? I'll pay of course but itd be great to save on shipping if youre ordering a pair already.
I'll see if they will make any more in a small batch.
@dutchvansomeren9943 thank you sir! Also still holding out hope for the restock of those bsmc x goldtop gloves in tan/brown. 😉
I'm getting one 4 sho
What did you use to tune this bike? PCV?
DNK Tuneworks supplied a map based in the pipe, air filter and riding style required.
its is beaty
Triumph till die
The sexist bike on the market sad to see it go , im always looking for one to test drive finally got to check out a bonnibe 1000 cc the other day and i can fairly say im hooked and want one of these beside my cbr 500
