    Really informative video that helps me see what is to come. I ruptured mine a week ago and I’m in the Vaco Ped boot (no surgery).
    Thanks for putting these videos out, I will be checking out your other videos 👍

    After week six whilst you still need the boot you can now sleep without it. The foot extension exercises prepare the ankle for transition from the boot to a shoe with 1cm wedge at week 9. Have just started wearing the shoe and am walking carefully and slowly with one crutch and letting the ankle get more used to walking. Slowly but surely.

      Definitely slowly but don't call me Shirley.

      @@wzpu3283 Lol am now into my sixth month of recovery and have been doing exercises in the swimming pool to strengthen my calf muscles. I even found myself attending a dance class the other day and very tentatively exploring what I do and do not feel comfortable doing. So maybe I am changing into a Shirley? I'll let you know in a year if my beard has dropped off.

      How is your Achilles doing now? How long did the recovery process take?

  • @Steph-wq9it

    Stupidly I ran the Christmas 2023 park run knowing that my Achilles had some soreness / tenderness.
    After a mile I started limp running as it started getting worse, I kept running until someone passing said, don’t run any more. So stopped & limped back home.
    Later that day I got a sudden explosion of pain around the back of my lower calf, i can only describe it as a bullet going into the back of my lower leg.
    I thought maybe with the stress of the day, my calf had torn.
    I am still limping & can only walk around 2 miles
    My Achilles is swollen, still sore & looks nothing like my other Achilles in comparison.
    I thought maybe I had a torn lower calf muscle & some Achilles tendinitis.
    I am now into my 11th week, thinking I have actually torn my Achilles.
    My fault self diagnosing, as I’ve lost all faith in the NHS with previous experiences.
    So two things, is the damage still going to show up on a scan? I or is it too late for that.
    Secondly some advice to other runners 🏃‍♂️ Don’t run if you have tender or sore Achilles as you could end up being out for months 😢

      It sucks that it took this experience for you to listen to your body 💀 and if this doesn't get better you screwed yourself over for life

      @@samuelstevens1129 Thanks for being so positive 💀
      it’s true I should have listened to my body.
      But how many of us play sports or run with injuries, pro’s & amateurs?
      My point was, Achilles are not to be messed with.
      I have just started some 3 mile, slow flat runs after 4 months out, once a week.
      Back of Achilles tendon is still swollen, but more or less pain free.
      Yes it’ll never likely be the same again. Ruptures in that area can’t ever heal properly, due to lack of blood flow around tendon.
      But I remain optimistic not pessimistic 😃

    My Achilles Tendon tore and I did not have surgery (recommended by specialist), it's been 6 months and I'm still recovering. Haven't worked since June 24th 2023. Now the specialist is saying it's going to take a year to fully heal. 😩😩😩😩😡😡😡😡

    Thank you that was a helpful video, mine was a partial tear, I was hit by a trolley, I had a leg cast for 3 weeks. I still limp. It has been 2 month since it happened. Do you think I am fit to go back to my job if the limping would go away?

      Unfortunately, advice over TH-cam comments on personal situations is virtually impossible due to the complexity involved. The vast majority of patients with correct rehab and personalised plan tend to recover quite well following these types of injuries.

      Swelling is normal at week 6. Always follow the advice of your surgeon and physical/physio therapist on exercises.

      As mentioned before on another post, you won’t get the answer you’re looking for here. Best to seek a professional opinion face to face that can actually assess the Achilles and determine severity of injury and necessity for further management.

    im past week 6 day 49at this point going over neutral to dorsiflex is just impossible mu achilles is just too hard and stiff

  • @augustwillo
    @augustwillo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this! I ruptured my achilles, and soon will be on my 6th week from rupture. I did the non-surgical route. My question is, how do I know if I’m ready for my foot to go neutral? Im currently in the VacoPed at 30°. At this point in my recovery, should my achilles be attached at this point or still severed?

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get patients sent over when they’re week 6. There should be some continuity in the tendon and the Vacoped will be a unlocked by a notch or two every week. In and around week 10 it will be on the last setting. This will only be a guide and everyone’s personal situation is different so it’s finding a decent PT who has experience and ringing the consultant.

    • @sharonjuniorchess
      @sharonjuniorchess ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By week 9 your last wedge will have been out for a week and your foot will be used to being flat (90 degrees). Also if you rub up and down the back of your foot above the heel you should feel where the tendon has started to connect. In my case I felt a bit of a bulge around the area where previously it has separated. I focused on pushing the toes away and bringing them back 90 degrees to the shin slowly. Don't forget to rotate the toes from left to right whilst pointing the foot away. Its getting the ankle used to moving again. You will feel those tendons on either side of your lower leg. There is nothing wrong with them they just haven't been used for some time.
