Dupli-color spray cans work excellent and nothing is 8Xs or even 2Xs better; the coverage is phenomenal, and it does an excellent job with proper prep. Took me six rattle cans from AMZ to recolor the dash, door cards, and plastic from tan to black and it looks new! If you’re disassembling your entire interior the professional spray equipment is great…if you have it… I masked my car and sprayed it on the car. Takes me about six hours to carefully mask one door opening for example. First time I painted an interior of a car was fifty years ago and with proper prep and primer…regular spray paint also transformed a faded interior or one where you just want to change the color…but back then it was lacquer spray paint.

Ive used the rattle can dye on a few cars and they come out great. Sprayed black over light blue. Arm rests, console, rear seat and door panels. Never a crack or anywhere in the car you could tell it use to be light blue. Another car I kept over twenty years the rattle can stuff never wore off or showed through to the green I covered. I dont know how many small jobs Ive used it on, like kick panels and panels that cover the seat hardware in the old 50s cars.

Man there sure is a lot of questions that need to be answered for these people. The number one question I see everybody asking but no reply is what brand of paint this is! Now I'm not sure what type you used in your video here. but I know that if you go to your Sherwin-Williams auto paint dealer they are making a interior paint now the same way that you don't have to mix anything with it just put it in your gun and shoot it no reducer is hardeners none of that. Hope that helps none of you guys peace

I have to do this during the summer of 2017 in a garage with no heat but good ventilation.
    1. I have dash parts with a deep, evenly grained texture. Would it make sense to use a some kind of a soft brush instead of, or in combination with, toweling?
    2. Is there any kind of chemical that would work in a soaking bath that wouldn't damage the plastics but could help to lift Armor All out of the pores?
    3. Do you have any special recommendations for interior parts that can't be removed from a larger assembly, like soft vinyl contrasting pieces from door panels or vinyl panels on fabric seats?

This is crazy !! I’m sat with 2 Range Rover Classic dashboards in the uk wondering how I can make 1 good out of 2 bad , I think to myself “perhaps I’ll have a look on TH-cam and see about vinyl dyeing car interiors” this video pops up and the guy is restoring the exact same Range Rover Classic dash. I’d give anything for the rest of that tin of dye. Any chance of the colour code ??

Rubbing alcohol is a type of denatured alcohol. It's either ethanol (drinkable alcohol) with poison added to it or isopropyl alcohol. Denatured just means that something has been added to ethanol to make it poisonous and to make it taste bad.

Carefully take it off with some laquar thinner using a small screw driver wrapped with a wipe all towel or sometimes you can take an exacto knife and pick at it to flick it off.. Time consuming situation!! Been there done that... Worst case you can always buy some vinyl dye and re-shoot it..

Nice vid! What about 99 Silverado dashboard. It's plastic with a skin of like latex over it. My the front corner peeled off. Will vinyl paint work on this type? I thought about using like a super glue smearing around peeled edges (it's about a 6" diameter area) to keep from peeling more, than do light sanding on it and glossy plastic where it's peeled, than repaint whole thing...am I on the right track here??

hard plastics used in autos is non pourouos and water proof. There are no pours or acne scarring in hard plastic. Sorry. You can also dye plastics but it is basically painting the surface. Only. You can dye materials that absorb such also. Buy dye only works properly when it is absorbed into materials. Otherwise you are just painting surfaces and you can do that with regular rattle can paint. clear coating it will help it hold up longer however.

not sure I want to follow the advice of someone who wastes so much alcohol. Get a container to pour that stuff into, not on the ground. Also, if you just lay your paper towels over the entire dash and saturate them with alcohol and let it soak, the paper towels prevent the alcohol from evaporating quickly and penetrates the dirt so you don't have to do so much scrubbing.
