  • This video will provide an easy to follow guide on how to zero/sight-in your scope at the range. This is the third of four videos on how to fully optimize your scopes performance.
    OPTIMIZING YOUR SCOPE
    1. Setting Up Your Scope
    2. Centering Your Scope
    3. Zeroing Your Scope
    4. Zero Resetting Of Your Scope's Turrets
    After your scope is properly mounted on your firearm (Step 1), you can make sure it is centered (Step 2), zero/sight it in at the range (Step 3), and reset zero on your scope turrets (Step 4), for easy adjustments in the future.
    NOW YOU'RE GOOD TO GO!!!
    Remember to use all firearm safety procedures while using or doing any work to your firearm.

    Hello from Australia! A friend of mine from the USA is coming over and bringing me one of the utg 4-16x44 30mm scopes which he got for me from Amazon - the full length version. I tell you, even though we will be on a luxury cruise for 12 days I will be itching to get back home and mount this beauty on my new Howa 1500 .243 and punch some holes in targets!

    Question; I damaged my hand and can't seem to use the small SWAT parallax side turret focus knob very well and need to order the large wheel that can fit on it. What size do I order as they come in different center hole diameters? My scope is the UTG 3-12x44 Compact SWAT ?

    Question for either of you guys.
    I put A UTG 4X16X44 compact on a or oracle LR308. Over the last 3 years I've put near 4k rounds through it WHILE decking it out with utg but stock, then utg pistol grip then a utg pro mod 17 inch free float to go with a new 416 barrel with an adjustable buffer tube weight, adjustable gas block
    mid length gas tube all from Odin works.
    Then a cmc trigger. The barel swap and gas system mods were done 2 weeks ago. I sighted the gun at 100 yards and put a 20 round mag in a 1.5 inch area. No paper left just a inch and a half circle.
    Well I went back this week and it's not on paper. I spent 60 rounds chasing it all over the board with a bullseye then next shot was 6 right and so on. Took it home and checked. Nothing is loose. Is it possible that the scope had enough and just gave up at approximately 4000 rounds of mostly 150 and 168 grain 308

    Munky332, Yes! You can reset your turrets to zero after making adjustments. This is very easy, all you have to do is loosen the Allen screw on top of each turret (loosen just a little bit). The turret should spin freely without making click sounds. At this point you can freely spin the turret so that "0" is lined up with the white turret index dot (located on the rear of the turret base). Once these are aligned, tighten the Allen screws back down and your good to go!!!

  • @G1fishinwrench

    Using the method described.....what is the point of "centering the scope"? The reticle adjustment after zero'ed will be the same.
    Why no mention of shimming to get the zero'ed position as close to optically centered as possible ? Just curious. Thanks.

    Thanks

    • @Leapers_Inc
      @Leapers_Inc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reaching out to us, you are correct about the turret adjustments, the are "reversed". This is because you are adjusting your point of impact up or down not your point of aim. This is an industry standard and many scopes are set up this way. As for the ring mount issue, there are many variables that could be causing this. Please reach out to our customers service team either through our website here: leapers.com/index.php?act=service&subject=Questions&mobsubject=Questions&midx=718&allids=718&svroot=, or by giving us a call at 734-542-1500. • @Leapers_Inc
    @Leapers_Inc  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello TheMobster450, The turrets are actually not reversed. When you turn your turret to the "left" you're not moving the reticle (crosshair) to the left your moving the point of impact to the left. For example if you're shooting too low and you want to move your point of impact up, you dial the turret "up". Same goes for down, left, and right. This is a common turret set-up in the optics industry.

    I wish you wouldn't put this information out there, it's the worst thing you can do. I'm glad to hear that you at least suggested to optically center the scope before you start. What you want to end up with is that your scope is still optically centered when you're at your zero distance. This is going to give you the best accuracy and the best view through the scope. If you just set the scope on the gun and crank the turrets to match where the bullet hits your scope tube inside is going to be angled, the more the scope tube is angled the less accurate it's going to be. Once you have your scope optically centered you want to use adjustable ring mounts. Adjust the scope itself up and down and left and right to match the bullet hit don't turn the turrets but move the scope itself once you get the scope in the right position and close to where the bullets hitting tighten everything up and then adjust your turrets to do the fine-tuning , this keeps the tube centered and going to be the most accurate you can get out of your scope. Several companies now are making adjustable rings just for this purpose look into the FX adjustable rings they're really nice.

    I have a question that I would really appreciate being answered. So I have the 3-9x50 Illuminating scope, (I'm not sure about the exact name, as I bought it a while ago), and when I try to zero it, I only sometimes make a clicking noise when I turn the knob. I have to press in the knob to hear that noise and often when I push in the know it makes it hard to turn. Does the scope still adjust if there is no clicking noise?

    • @Leapers_Inc
      @Leapers_Inc  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      InfinitySniper Zero at the distance and power (x) you plan use most often.
      Zeroing at a higher power will grant you more precision. More important is to
      zero at the distance that you plan on shooting at most often.

    when you look at the arrows on the knob, think, "move bullet" right/left or "move bullet" up/down... you're changing point of impact, not the reticle itself.

    I bought a UTG 3x9x32 Bugbuster. This is an Excellent scope. I use it on an AR in .458 Socom. However; I did all the math and you need to throw away that common core BS card that comes with it. Their not real mils. Apparently someone at UTG seems to think mils have something to do with metrics. THEY DO NOT ! REAL Mil-Dots are true angular science though, as real mils math will spit out an answer in whatever unit you put in it as range or size. Example: Using REAL Mils, If you put in a goat that is 2 fingers high and do the math it will tell you the range in how many fingers that goat is away from you. Okay, rant over. This UTG scope's reticle amounts to one Mil-Dot represents 4 inches @ 100 yds, 8 " @ 200, 12" @ 300, 16" @ 400, ect... 1/2 Mil is 2" @100, 1/4 Mil is 1 inch @100 and so on. Now go have fun without that confusing F-ing card.
