    for those who dont know Harold Holt was an Australian Prime Minister who disappeared swimming in a beach one day, and what did we Australians do, named a swim centre after him

    Baron/Pit Hag is such a massive boost of a combo to evil. It’s like getting 3 minions because Baron is just done after day 1 and can freely become another minion to continue the mayhem without losing the prior effect.

      Evil thief is also a pretty nasty roadblock with a Leviathan.

      @anarchy7535 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      True but it's also a trade off. Outside of changing the evil team the Pit Hag's main plays tend to be making people less useful which is often creating outsiders. Having a Baron makes it harder to make effective changes.

    when 5 or fewer players are alive, all living player act twice, and all dead players regain their ability until the next dusk, but only act once
    put this in a fang gu game, go straight from 5 to final 3

    I have a minion idea and i want your guys's opinion. Mime (imitator) : Each night chose a character and a coresponding statement. The storyteller does the statement but there is no efect.
    I don't know how to word the role but in concept the mime can mimic a Leviathan, Al-Hadikhia, Fearmonger or a Cerenovous but the efect does not happen, only the statement. I think Mime would be a balanced minion because it creates the posibility of scripts with multiple demons and Leviathan and makes a fun puzle for the good team to solve.

    • @kyleb8117
      @kyleb8117 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can remove the part about a corresponding statement. Maybe even something like: "Each night, choose a character: The Storyteller will simulate that character being in play, before dusk." (You can mention in the 'almanac' that "simulate" means it's not actually happening.)
      This opens up a lot of options, as well. For instance, they could pick Atheist and ST can simulate breaking the rules to do something silly that doesn't actually happen/affect the game. (e.g. they could ask someone that doesn't act to pick a player then put them to sleep, show "This character selected you" and Atheist token, etc.)

    • @kyleb8117
      @kyleb8117 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you went with my suggested change, you'd also have to list which characters can be simulated to make life easier for STs, probably.
      Alternatively, I'd ask you this: *Do you only want players getting announcements (or being woken and told something chose them)?* I ask this because let's imagine for a moment you chose Al-Had; ST announces "The Al-Hadikhia has chosen Bob." but doesn't wake Bob, repeat two times, then Bob and others mention they weren't woken for a choice, so it's obvious a Mime is in play. If you simulated it, they'd be woken to choose life/death, but it wouldn't matter because the Demon kill(s) will be the only thing deciding what happens. You could have both Shab and Po to simulate Al-Had in this world.
      If you said yes to my question above, I'd suggest wording it: "Each night, choose a character: The Storyteller will publicly or privately make a statement related to that character."
      (Also I thought of a possibly fun way to simulate Atheist: pull someone that acts at night aside during the day and tell them they're now the Savant/Fisherman/Artist. If they ask for their info, pretend to move tokens in the grim and tell them "Sorry, I turned you back." and if they don't, just treat the next night like normal and ask for their night pick(s). Haha.)
      *Edit:* Misnamed your character. Oops! Also, probably worth mentioning: if it's just the announcements version, I personally think that's too weak for a Minion. Minions are more powerful than Townsfolk generally, and weaker than or on par with Amnesiac usually. Keep in mind they start outnumbered, so they need a boost.

    • @cowcowcow6154
      @cowcowcow6154 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyleb8117 so the Al-Hadikhia mimic would wake people to chose life or death but the choice doesn't matter. Also I want the mimic to chose what character and what specific statement ( like Al-Hadikhia AND who is targeted) because if the storyteller makes the choice it is kinda boring to be a Mime, and that isn't fun. I really apreciate your investment in this role and i hope it becomes something in the future.
      Also, if the mime choses a character that can't be simulated, nothing happens. Here is the current list of characters that can be simulated:
      Al-Hadikhia, Leviathan, Cerenovous, Fearmonger, Widdow, Boomdandy(final three recomednded), Damsel, Barber, and i think that's it
      Here is the list with characters that COULD be simulated, but there are isues:
      Atheist, Pit-Hag, Mezephelies( i think it is to harsh to make players doubt their character/alignment change), Demons like Po, Shabaloth and Fang-gu. Thank you really much for the suport!

    • @cowcowcow6154
      @cowcowcow6154 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyleb8117 Also I think the Mime is powerfull in the way that makes the good team doubt everything, and abilities that have weaknesses like Widow are saved by the mime. I don't know how to make the mime more powerfull, now it has a Fearmonger level of power. I guess the mime could make characters misregister, like a recluse/spy would.

    • @kyleb8117
      @kyleb8117 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cowcowcow6154 @cow cow COW I should probably clarify I do think it's a great character in the "simulate" version I proposed and it sounds like that's what you want as well. I did save it in my list of homebrew characters and credited you as the designer.
      My suggestion can change to "Each night, choose a character and relevant choices: the Storyteller will simulate it by dawn."
      I don't think you should ever lie about alignment changes. Character changes can be okay if they realize it didn't happen, or it doesn't affect the game. Alignment is a big no-no, I think because you can't test it and it will swing the game wrongly. You can't take back someone breaking the game because they thought they changed alignments.
      How would you simulate Boomdandy? Pretend people died, give a minute for pointing, then put everyone to sleep? It'd be funny but it'd expose the Mime. I guess if they want it, they can.
      I also don't know how you'd simulate other demons. Lying about death state is rough. Lying about Fang Gu swap entails lying about alignment. I'd probably avoid it. You could maybe simulate Riot but you'd have to announce everyone is back to life the next day and a final 2 with fake Riot feels bad...so it's another Boomdandy issue.

    Giving the evil Amnesiac (former Baron) the Dreamer ability is very broken. They already know all evil players, hence - unless they are drunk - their ability gives 100% accurate role/character of a selected player. Normally, there is some ambiguity, due to the 50/50 nature.

    While I can appreciate these complex scripts for people that know the game inside and out... it's too much to keep up on as a newcomer to the game to enjoy these super complex custom scripts. Especially without a primer up front at the start of the video breaking it down.

    • @Arrowstorm122
      @Arrowstorm122 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think a primer on custom scripts covering the ideas of the script would be neat, but if you are getting lost watching these games, I would suggest watching some of the older videos of simpler scripts, or perhaps check out No Rolls Barred's videos. Their first many videos cover the base scripts, and the format is a lot easier to follow (although the games are generally also longer).

    • @matthewlove4082
      @matthewlove4082 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are tons of videos out there of base script games, as well as less complex custom games. I especially recommend the 'Experimental Showcase' games because those are just Trouble Brewing + a new Experimental character. BotC games already take between 1 and 2 hours each so if they took the time to explain everything every single game the streams would be like 6 hours long. So just watch the simpler games and then pull up the script or the wiki and read what the roles do before watching a more complex game. You'll pick it up in no time.

    • @neothepenguin1257
      @neothepenguin1257 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend checking the description, as often the roles are there (if you follow the links). As for mechanics like the travellers in this one, it’s on the wiki. I get that it might be a barrier, I was there too, but then I learned more and it ended up being super rewarding. However that’s a personal thing and if you still want to enjoy BOTC without as much complexity, here is what I recommend: watch No Rolls Barred play! All of their videos have explanations for everything going on and the roles and mechanics in play.

    If a single-use ability is able to use their ability twice in a game due to a barista, it seems it wasn't a single-use ability.

    • @verdiss7487
      @verdiss7487 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The specific wording of the Barista is: "Each night, until dusk, 1) a player becomes sober, healthy & gets true info, or 2) their ability works twice. They learn which."
      I can definitely see an understanding of this where the player basically has their ability duplicated (as opposed to the same ability firing twice), in which case each of the doubled abilities has its own counter for whether it has been used. Of course that would be better and more obviously expressed as "their ability is duplicated", so that's an indication that this is not the intended interpretation.
      I wouldn't run it this way myself. If for whatever reason I chose to make a seamstress' ability work twice I would just rather comedicly ask them two times in a row if they want to use their ability. But of course if they say yes to the first ask that's their ability spent.

      @@verdiss7487 this interaction is specifically spelled out in the Travllers and Fabled Almanac
      "If the affected player is acting twice, then they do so at the normal time. If they would normally wake at night, they act, go to sleep, then wake to act again. If they have already used a "once per game" ability, they may use that ability again. If
      they have a "once per game" ability but have not used it yet, they may use it twice before dusk"
