Chapter 11: Just as He Promised (Mary)
1. Read Genesis 23:1-2. This lets us know that Sarah died at Hebron. Later in the chapter (v17-20) we find that Abraham bought a cave to bury her, and was later buried there himself by his son Isaac (Genesis 25:7-10).
2. Read Genesis 35:27-29. We find that later, Isaac himself was buried there too and so was his son Jacob (Genesis 50: 2-13). This was a place with a lot of history!
King Herod the Great built a large enclosure over the cave about 30 years before the birth of Jesus. The walls he built are still there even today. The promise God made to Abraham about all the nations being blessed through his offspring is found in Genesis 22:18.
