    Great information Chris. I would add cherry wood, and I actually own an olive wood pipe very much like briars. tough wood and starts as a light brown and darkens overtime. I love the history lesson about the Clay. Did not know that found it fascinating as I love history

      robert Blanks - I have never smoked a pipe made of any other wood but Briar. Thanks for the added information. 👍👍👍

    I've only been pipe smoking for less than a year. I now have 5 cob pipes and two wood pipes. Love my cob pipes.

    Hi again. I have since pirchased a couple new meerchaums and found that they are great smokers. I bought a Strambach and a Peterson. Strambach pipes are made from their proprietary cultured meerchaum process and seem in all significant respects the same as a real block meerchaum pipe like my Peterson. As for the natural coloring that occurs from smoking meerchaum, I can take or leave it. It does look really nice and represents an accomplishment, but I opted for a brown stained Peterson and the Strambach came new with partial coloring around the top of the bowl which looks nice. Not sure how it will cure out with further smoking. Anyway, I like them very much and wanted to share my thoughts. Take care buddy

    Good Sir,
    I have seen a few pipes made from 'Apple wood' out of "Pipes and cigars" Magazine. Also I was curious to the "Medico" brand pipe (commonly sold, synthetic made).
    Thank you for your time,
    -SargeTube 57

      SargeTube57 - I have also heard of pipes made out of apple wood as well, also a substance called Morta, which is I think very hard petrified wood, found in bogs. I have heard of Medico brand pipes as well, but I have never owned one, however most people who I have talked to swear by them. 😃😃😃

    The company Mr. Brog makes a lot of their pipes out of Pear Wood root. I have one and tend to like their style because they are different and slightly outlandish.

    Great videos. How do you like smoking meerschaums as compared to other pipes. I've not smoked one before but am considering buying one. From what I've read and watched online, they look like a great smoke

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr Cat approves - funny you should ask, I have only smoked one other Meerschaum pipe in my pipe smoking past, but I get frustrated because it takes so long to color, so I stopped smoking them. Well just the other day I purchased one, and I am going to give it another try. A lot of people enjoy smoking meerschaum's so if you wanted to know my advice, I say go for it, I think you would enjoy smoking one. 👍👍👍

    Hiya,
    This is probably a really newbie qeustion but I am just on the edge of buying a pipe.
    And i was hoping you could share some of your experience so I can make a more informed decision.
    Im currently quite enjoying cigars but i want to be able to read whilst smoking.
    In your experience is it doable to smoke a pipe and read at the same time comfortably?
    Can one tilt their head downwards whilst smoking a pipe? Or will the ash spill out of the bowl?
    Very last qeustion,
    Is smoking a pipe hands free uncomfortable at all?
    Thank you so very much in advance!
    Im just on the edge of buying a pipe.

      My Gmail - Question 1, yes, reading and smoking a pipe go hand in hand, like peanut butter and jelly. Question 2 - Yes, once you light the pipe and tamp the ash it usually stays in the pipe even if you tilt it downward. Question 3, yes a pipe is quite comfortable hands free. 👍👍👍

    Great video, very helpful, however, I was kind of surprised to not have seen bog oak made pipes in the list, that's a somewhat valuable and appreciated material in pipe making.
    Also, I've heard that in the past there were beech wood pipes, but now are a bit less common, they were a sort of alternative to corn cob when it came to cheap pipes, well now they're less cheap in terms of price, but they're intereseting anyway.

    about any kind of wood can be used to make a pipe is what I've heard but they are different and might not be as good a choice as briar
    with the synthetics I've noticed one was said to be made with steel, stone and plastic which makes them heavy there built for durability
    stainless steel is another material too but they just little pipes more for herbal tobbaco substitutes or marijuana but can be used for tobbaco thought
    silicone and silicon too
    with water pipes plastic or glass

    can't you make a pipe out of any wood? for example oak?

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are other materials you can make a pipe out of, I have heard of pear wood pipes, the only thing with making a pipe out of oak let's say, is that unless you coat the inside of the bowl with a fire resistant coating, the wood will catch fire, or it may crack.

    • @ThePanda1903
      @ThePanda1903 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Muttnchop Piper the pear wood pipes are made popular by Mr. Brog i think. So what you're saying is it doesnt really matter about the wood as long as you put a fire resistant coating on it?

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Beowulf 95 I am really not that knowledgeable about pipes made of materials other then what I spoke about in my video, I don't even know if you can put or if there is such a thing as a fire resistant coating that you could put on a pipe made from other types of wood, I suspect that the reason there are no pipes made of oak, or ash, or birch, is because either it is not financially feasible, or it just doesn't work, I'm sorry I can't be more informative about the subject.

      In Malaysia, we have one professional pipe maker name Abdullah Hussein, can search him on Facebook. He make pipe from sapodilla (a.k.a chikoo) tree and the stem from buffalo horn. Own one, and quite standing among my Peterson.

    hey, ah, ... if I get a really long pipe, does it's extended length noticeably cool the smoke ? ... Also I see one of those old chinese traditional pipes, very long with thin metallic tails -- I am wondering if it would be worth to try for cool smoke?

    My Uncle Colin made all his pipes himself...outta Balsa....his reasoning was not only to smoke the tobacco but also the pipe itself...he did this for many years right up until his untimely death....sadly he burned to death...one of his home made pipes set him on fire.
