The word "magnificent" says it all. Thank you for sharing your hunt with us. It was a privilege to watch your birds and dogs do their work. Chris (Maine, USA)
A lovely video showing falconry at its best. That Goshawks is quick of the fist, lovely take on the pheasant in flight, a top video. Good luck with your season lovely team.
I am glad you enjoyed the video. As you know it takes a lot of work and dedication to get a bird to this level. I will have a look at your videos soon. Thanks Kenny
Oh! that catch at 3:17 was classic goshawk. They're sprinters and the earlier flushes were really too far for a gos to show its best. A great team indeed. 🙂
Andy Keith has two pointers and you can see them working together in one of my previous videos. It is great to get out and watch this fantastic sport. Kenny
You ve got a lovely set up there mate. Falknersheil. Personally I wouldn't have combined a pointing dog with a flushing dog but it seems to work just brilliant for you
Thanks for your comment. Lush is getting on a bit and struggled to push through the thicker cover along the hedgerow. She worked by herself in the game crop. Kenny
I’ve told my mate to look at your vids. He’s got a goss and it’s not as sharp as yours. I know nothing about it but I can tell his bird isn’t quite right yet🤷♂️👍
What a magnificent bird! Always loved birds of prey and having read Helen Macdonald’s wonderful book H is for hawk in which she describes training a goshawk I was hooked. A perfect video of a timeless scene, thank you.
Thanks Kenny. The springer seems to work well as well. Springers are May favorite dog breed and goshawks my favorite bird of pray, so it's good to see they both work together. I see most people just using pointers.
Just come across your excellent channel and subbed, love the relationship you have with your dogs and hawk which is an awsome hunter, your pointer is a grand old dog,but the name lush, come on lol
As you can see, the spaniel was only used in thicker cover to flush the Pheasant once the pointer was on point. It’s the way Keith works both dogs together.
Nice videos ,have a spaniel myself and would see it hard work to use one under a Goshawk. I will be looking for a Pointer when the time is right to work under my Goshawk . Could you let me know where you got your short cuff glove from please .. Many Thanks
Its definitely more challenging and the success rate of slips drops as the flush is less predictable than with a pointer. The glove is a Doug Pineo glove that was a gift from a friend
@@keithtalbot8836 yes am sure the lack of setup time makes it harder, but the anticipation is higher 😀.. Great thank you for the glove, sure it would be unavailable now . But never mind. Thanks again
Pheasant one of the slowest flying birds there is. No match for gun or bird of prey. However, I do admire how majestic birds of prey are… Peregrine Falcon being my favourite. I have a mate who pays up to £800 a day to shoot. I just don’t understand the mentality. I was told on one shoot, they hired in a JCB to dig a hole to bury over 1,000 birds. You can’t tell me that’s right.
In the wild, Goshawks are very astute at catching grey Squirrels and can form a large proportion of their diet. However falconers would be reluctant to use them for Squirrel control, as they have a nasty bite that could lead to injured tendons, loss of foot or death. There is a huge amount of information and advice available online on the control of Grey Squirrels. Please see a few links as follows. basc.org.uk/advice/basc-grey-squirrel-control/ scottishsquirrels.org.uk/ bpca.org.uk/a-z-of-pest-advice/squirrel-control-how-to-get-rid-of-squirrels-bpca-a-z-of-pests-/188983 Hope this helps.
Great hawking style and have just one question; What was the reason you didn´t let the gos go after that quarry? You mention something like: "Luch was not on point", but that wasn´t the goshawk´s fault or am I missing something? Maybe you want the gos to learn bating only after quarry being "pointed"/shown by the dog? Kind regards from Mexico
On a normal days hawking I would have released the bird, as you say it wasn't his fault that it flushed before the point. I held on for a point to ensure Kenny had a chance to video
It's definitely fun to go hunting with the hawk. I like the bird very much. He comes to visit me very often and hunts my pigeons. Has already flown into the window 3 times. 😅 I even managed to take pictures of it 👍
I had the privilege to take a lad with his gosshawk rabbiting bolting them ferrets absolutely amazing a fantastic day out and really could not believe the speed of the bird a day I will remember for the rest of my life and I am thinking of getting one myself
They are extremely versatile birds, used for many different activities. It takes a long time, loads of dedication and knowledge to train them. Good luck. Kenny
Glad you enjoyed the video, however in my experience, the vast majority of keepers don’t persecute birds of prey and that successful falconry is much easier on keepered ground, where good land management results in higher biodiversity, including larger game numbers. Kenny
I'm a shotgun hunter, enjoy watching hunting vids, but watching your hunts with a hawk is like none other. Great hunt right there!
Thanks for your comment.
It’s a great sport and thoroughly enjoyable with so many opportunities. Have a look at my other videos.

Shotgun hunter 😂😂…. Pheasant has no chance. Unnecessary

Hi Kenny. I was wondering if I could ask a couple of questions. How often do you take the Goshawk out? Is it a finnish Goshawk?
It is a Finnish cross Albidus male.
Keith trains him just about every day on a lure machine. He’s hunted once or twice a week.
Thanks Kenny. The springer seems to work well as well. Springers are May favorite dog breed and goshawks my favorite bird of pray, so it's good to see they both work together. I see most people just using pointers.
Yes, they work well together, especially in thick cover.
I trialled spaniels many years ago and hold many special memories.

@@kennywillmitt6404 yes
@@kennywillmitt6404 do they hit their prey with claws in the dive?

Fantastic to watch such an awesome raptor also sadly ironic that gamekeepers persecute these very birds in order to protect their game birds.
