Two factors I always liked from Grimlock's toy bios (though separate releases).... The first was mentioned in this video. The idea that while he hates the weak, he hates those who attack the weak even more. Second, I remember another version saying that Grimlock's speech was due to a bad speech co-processor. He's actually a genius, particularly in the field of strategy and battle tactics. I always figured this was why The Dinobots were the ones to take on Devastator. Grimlock was quick to figure Devastator's weak points and could focus the others on the best plan to take down the much more powerful opponent. I also always thought that this would have made Grimlock a natural enemy/counter to Onslaught (Combaticon leader) as his own bio mentioned that he was also a military genius, but in the opposite way of Grimlock. While Grimlock is an incredible field commander and can think in the heat of battle, he's not much of a long term thinker. Onslaught, on the flipside, can make brilliant battle plans and draw up incredible complex schemes, but the moment something goes wrong on the battlefield and his perfect plan encounters the least obstacle, he flies into a murderous rage. This also makes Onslaught in battle the very thing everybody mistakes Grimlock for.
Grimlock in the comics is always dangerous and not to be messed with. He's also quite cunning and a brilliant tactitan in the comics as well and quite smart actually. Its a shame that his speech impariment labels him lower .
you forgot fall of cybertron game grimlock? he was the most bad-ass character I´ve ever played, and it says a lot when in the same game you can play as bruticus, which also is a great character..

The UK comic continued long after the American one. It got a bit dark. In one annual, Grimlock is in a coma throughout, existing in a limbo. He's more articulate in a dream state, describing how all he experiences is 'darkness and voices'.
I would have liked to see the Dinobots as a combiner. Maybe, with Optimus as the main body and head. Calling it Dragonus Prime...lol. GrimLock arguing against combining, because he can do it by himself.
