You should catch Dolly Parton's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rob Halford looked like he was having a bucket list moment when he sang a verse of Jolene with Dolly. It was a totally unexpected fantastic moment.

Judas Priest caught a lot of flack when they released this album in 1986 for the mere fact of incorporating keyboards into their sound. Many felt that is softened their sound but I think it just rounded it out more. I had this on cassette and played it on my Walkman constantly!!! Another song off of this album y'all should check out is "Parental Guidance". Banger!!

@@terryconnelly484 I think that you are mistaken. The Senate hearings were in 1986 or '87, I was still in the Navy. 2 Live Crew wasn't until, I wanna say, '89. Also, I don't remember Rob Halford at those hearings either. Me and my buddies would come off shift, and watch C-SPAN. Judas Priest WAS on the "filthy 15". The Musicians who did testify were John Denver, Dee Snider, and Frank Zappa gave one of the most prolific dressing down of politicians to their face, maybe ever. You can find his testimony right here on you tube.
Those hearings should be a cautionary tale for anyone who wants to try and force their beliefs on others. Tipper Gore heard her daughters listening to "Darling Nikki" by Prince, and thought parents needed her help in policing the music industry. My parents didn't. I didn't. My daughter didn't. Because we actually had no problem telling our kids no. I can't speak for everyone, nor would I want to. But I see way too many parents trying to reason with their kids, instead of parenting their kids. My son would be 40 years old this year if he wouldn't have passed at 16. And I can count on 1 finger how many times I spanked him. But he remembered it, I guarantee. My dad could've counted on 1... hand, though he wouldn't have got to his thumb, but to this day, I remember what each and every one was for, and I am going to be 56 in June. That's why so many kids today have no respect for themselves because they were never taught to have respect for others. Sorry about my soapbox. I'll step down and shut up now.

I remember returning to college for my sophomore year and my girlfriend telling me that they were playing Judas Priest in the dance clubs in her hometown over the summer break. Sure enough, pretty soon our college town clubs were playing "Turbo Lover" and people were dancing to it. I was horrified to see the frat boys and sorority girls bobbing their heads and singing along. It felt like sacrilege!

I saw this tour in Philly mid80s. My first real concert, at the Spectrum. That's where Rocky fought Apollo Creed, by the way. I couldn't barely hear for 2 days. During one song, the Entire drum kit, WITH the drummer rose up as a giant 20 ft tall robot. Then, the arms of the robot reached out and picked up each dueling guitarist, and moved them up and down while they played solos ( like 10-15 ft in the air!). Seriously, I am very concientious about music and all things related. It happened. I was like 15 or 16 and blown away.

Such a devastating let down when this came out, don’t mind it as much now but still hurts.

Turbo came out after You've Got Another Thing Comin', and before Painkiller. It was considered very experimental for the band, because a lot of the guitar you hear is actually synthesized. The drums also have a touch of a synth drum sound, almost drum machine like.

This Priest album was a misstep. I would suggest Saints in Hell from Stained Class (1978), and Dreamer Deceiver from Sad Wings of Destiny (1976).

Love your reactions guys. This album came out in 1985. I listened to this album over and over when I was at Ft. McClellan Alabama the night before BRM. I was so amped at the range I qualified expert.

This album was pretty divisive for a lot of die-hard Priest fans when it was released, but I always enjoyed a lot of the tunes on "Turbo". I agree with the thoughts below, the live versions are even heavier and really great. The "Priest Live!" CD/DVD they released from this tour is killer. Also highly recommend "Out in the Cold," "Private Property" and "Parental Guidance" off this one. Either way, you can never go wrong with those KK Downing and Glenn Tipton dual guitars!!

I’ve been trying to tell you guys for at least a year or more to check out Riding on the Wind from these guys. I’m the Old School and know exactly what I’m talking about here. I’ve been listening to them since the 70’s and have seen them live in concert 21 times over the decades. I KNOW this stuff! It’s off their Screaming for Vengeance album in the early 80’s and was considered their peak, at least commercially. Studio Version Only Please! (It’s the record recording, the cleanest version to hear first) and go Loud! I personally guarantee this Badass, High Energy, Classic, Hard Rock Jam! Trust me and don’t just look at views and likes on this because most of the people posting those weren’t even alive when this came out and probably aren’t even aware of this adrenaline blast of a song! It’s not obscure to lifelong fans like me and it got regular radio airplay back then so it’s not just my opinion or one of my favorites, which it is for a damn good reason. I think you both will absolutely agree. It IS a KILLER song! Go For IT!
Much, much better than Turbo Lover. I saw both those tours and many others, like I said. My opinion is rock solid valid on this.

This album (1986's "Turbo") was disowned at the time by the die-hard Priest (and other metal) fans for its use of synths and more shiny production; I always loved it, though. And Rob Halford's soaring voice and the twin-lead-guitars still kick.
    In '86, you couldn't play D&D without it. :)

The 'Turbo' album by Judas Priest was an attempt to appeal to a commercial audience... especially after the popularity of bands like Ratt, ZZ Top, Bon Jovi and the Scorpions. The original concept of the record was a double album - synthesizers and beats on one disc... guitars and metal on the other... the title - 'Twin Turbos'... the record label said 'no'.
So, it was commercial album first ('Turbo') in 1986 and then heavy metal album second ('Ram it down') in 1988... U can see the costume changes that Priest members were wearing and the big hair 😂But 'Turbo' was not the big hit that the band had hoped for - it sold gold (half million copies) in the US, and they recorded a live album 'Priest live' from that '86 tour, released in 1987. It was strange to hear Judas Priest singing songs like 'Out in the cold'... 'Locked in'... 'Private property'... which were more personal and electronic-sounding, rather than the shredding metal they were famous for.

When guitar synthesizers hit in the mid 1980s, several bands did an album using them, most notably Judas Priest with Turbo, and Iron Maiden with Somewhere in Time. You should definitely do a reaction video for Stranger in a Strang Land by the latter:)

It's been awhile since I listened to Judas Priest . OMG! I forgot what an amazing vocalist Rob Halford is.
His ability to effortlessly alternate between a throaty growl and ear piercing falsetto is why people used to call him the "Rock God".
If you really want to hear him wail, listen to "The Ripper".
Great reaction, as always. God bless and keep listening to the hits.
