ESPN clearly does not believe in the new Big12. BYU made a good argument for why it should have gotten the CFP nod over SMU. People forget that BYU was a few yards from the end zone as time expired in both their losses.

Maybe BYU hase an argument over SMU MAYBE. But no one believes in the current Big 12 right now outside of Big 12 fans. BYU looked good most of the season, but some Big 12 teams started off slow. Outside of the over hype of CU, no one really jumped off the paper at anyone. BYU could have won their way in. Lke I said MAYBE BYU deserves a spot, but been Big 12 fans and channels were talking down on them for weeks trying to hype up CU.Is the Big 12 a 2-bid league? That will have to be proved on the field against more higher ranked teams and teams that usually have a shot at the CFP

    • @tomdean9381

Almost correct. BYU went for 4th down at the Kansas 16 with 0:46 left in the game but only picked up 8 of the 11 yards they needed for a 1st down. So Kansas had the ball as time expired. But yeah, BYU had gotten to the Kansas 8 yard line with that last pass of theirs.
However, when time expired against ASU, BYU had the ball at midfield.

I think the real thing people forget is that Kansas was a lot better than their record.

@@danjohnson8556pagan it was a loss to Kansas a 5-7 team that nearly squandered their victory over pagan Mormon BYzu and that is truth. The same porous argument that you and other homewreckers of the pagan faith and religion of Mormon bull corn about close losses resonates well with SMU barely losing at home to BYzu in similar circumstances and could have been undefeated themselves. SMU had a better record & strength of schedule was actually about the same. Now had SMU have two losses going into the ACC conference championship game and lost to Clemson and still got in over BYzu, then you have a legit argument or SMU wins ACC championship game and Miami or Alabama are chose over BYzu you have a case and a point. But not when you lose at home to a team that finished 5-7 and looked like the team that was 1-5 in the game against Baylor and not the team that went 4-1 headed into the final game against Baylor who was 7-4 and 1 of Baylor’s losses was to a team with a losing record, keep that in mind. Also many Big12 and ACC idiots clamor about SEC playing 8 conference games; what they fck? The Mountain Worst played just 7 conference games and will do so next season and the PAC-Mountain & MWC will be playing 7 conference games in two years from now and in the future unless more schools with football teams are added. Not one damn word about Bozo State and their navigable easy access to success to get a playoff spot. The AAC was vastly better and has been the best G5/6 conference followed by the SBC. So if anything BYU should have taken Boise State place and SMU replaced by Army, and wash my mouth out with soap because I am a Navy veteran and Houston Coog Alumnus for crying out loud.

Your comments about Paul Finebaum and his beloved SEC might be tempered with thoughts such as too many fans (NOT of the SOUTHEAST) love their regional or home team or their Alma Mater and want THEIR team to have a fair shake in the national polls & playoffs & especially in the media (that is supposed to be objective). IF their team wins in their conference, especially in the P-4 conferences (glad to see Boise State in the mix this year) they deserve recognition. My point here is that many of us get fatigued by national media people (not to get political but take a look at who won the presidential election in part because of people’s fatigue of obvious media bias…). We are capable of thinking and observing performance without being told what we are supposed to see… Americans love both fairness and meritocracy in sports, and they like to hear good things about THEIR team especially when their team deserves it! GO BYU COUGS! GO BIG12!

Paul Finebaum grew up in the south and he works for the SEC network. Would you not expect him to propagate for SEC teams?
Just like John Kurtz does here for the Big 12. Kurtz has a Big 12 bias.
BYU had a good season. Had they not lost to Kansas, they likely would have made it to the CFP. Or they would have at least had a shot at a rematch against Arizona State or a game against Iowa State in the Big 12 championship. A tougher strength of schedule would have made a case for BYU to get to the CFP, but their SOS ranked #40. Alabama’s SOS ranked #23. Georgia’s SOS ranked #1.

Big 12 needs to stop doing pre-season finish predictions. Those influence pre-season AP poll predictions which have a huge influence on which teams get the benefit of the doubt all season which influences CFP selection. BYU started from a disadvantage bc the Big 12 media told the world before the season that BYU was going to be bad. Same thing happened to ASU, but they took matters into their own hands and got the autobid.
With the portal causing massive roster turnover each year, it makes no strategic sense to guess at which rosters will gel and which won’t. It just adds another hurdle for BIG12 and ACC schools to overcome to get playoff spots.

I'm a BYU fan, and I agree that the BYU loss to Kansas blew the Cougars chance to get in. However, I don't agree that BYU would have lost a first round game. I think it's been proven this season that any good team can compete with, or beat any team in the country.

BYU didn't get snubbed. Based on that logic, then Illinois got snubbed. Nebraska boat raced Colorado. Illinois beat Nebraska. BYU lost to Kansas. Illinois beat Kansas. Illinois' only losses were to #1 Oregon, #4 PSU, and a 7-win Minnesota team. If Minnesota is a bad loss for Illinois, then Kansas is a terrible loss for BYU. Like I said, people care about record when it matters. Then you care about quality wins when it matters. Then you care about quality losses when it matters. The best outcome was to keep BYU, Colorado, Miami, and Illinois out of the playoffs.

Nonsense. BYU proved to be much better than expected, and most of the teams in the SEC and Big 10 were worse.

😆 go home you're drunk, the Mormons would be cellar dwellers in the SEC or Big10

BYU is the only great team in the Big 12 after expansion. I knew after Colorado almost got beat by N.Dakota & Nebraska spanked them by halftime Colorado was going get crushed .😂 Undisciplined ! No way any team that has the Top NFL pick & Heisman get EMBARRASSED like that in a bowl game.😂 A true freshman QB (Nebraska) & freshman QB (k state) beat Sanders .🙄
