Yeh goal line tech. And penalty reviews ONLY if the on field Ref asks to see it. The offside rule needs a massive overhaul. It should be if you can see any light between players he is offside.. at the moment they give offsides based on position. It should be whether the attacking player has an advantage. Ie. A yard or two.

  • @BridgeStamford

100%, offside was brought in to prevent blatant goal hanging, now it's about toenails and shoulders being over some imaginary line. It's garbage. The rule needs changing so that it's not about these minute details. The player should be clearly offside, otherwise they should be deemed onside.

It shows that you can distort stats to suit any agenda and that is what is happening, just look last night with Gordon for Newcastle he was clearly taken out and the ref said no foul and Var don’t intervene. That will go down as a correct decision and go into the 96% success stat, what a joke time to get rid of Var for a year and train new non referee operatives to do the job and once they are competent to do it bring it back in. At LEAST we have to add options for managers to ask for incident to be checked. This can be easily done and would probably have improved the hit rate of obvious wrong calls down to 1 or 2% this season. It will also reduce the pressure on VAR on making calls IF the ref should be called to the monitor or not. If a manager askes for a review the ref will have to look at it. This can be done only 2-4 times per game so the big calls WILL get checked.

Tech should be bought in for everything possible: offsides, ball out of play, goal line tech etc - for everything else the decisions should made by referees and his assistants who should be better trained. If the ref needs to call for support from VAR then he should and there should be a set system for how this works that includes transparency so fans know what is happening. Regulations should be bought in to clamp down on dissent and retrospective punishment should be bought in for violent and dangerous play. This will empower the on-field ref in the same way as they are in rugby. There is zero point in having 1 subjective decision maker being replaced by another subjective decision maker.

VAR is a lot like Jim White; I don't want to see it scrapped but it has to improve.

Entertainment value diminished. Drama and emotion is what has made football the product it is. Not sterilise it through data and VAR.

I suggest it should be withheld for next season and see how things go. If things are better then we will continue without it but if not then will need to improve on it and reintroduce it

As I sent during the show, for S&G's I want to see comparable data from the Bundesliga, Seria A, La Liga, Ligue 1.

Only decisions that matter are important decisions
I do not watch football anymore, but i just saw newcastle last night at old trafford denied a penalty, when it was 100% a penalty
How do these people that use var to correct important decisions justify denying newcastle a chance to get a goal at old trafford, that may of got them a point?
Like the newcastle player said after the game, what is the point of this var, if teams are not givewn penalties when its a 100% penalty that the referee missed?
In 1990s someone did a study on alex fergusons man utd, and found that 87% of all decisions involving man utd under fergie, that could go either way, went to man utd. 87% of decisions that were 50-50 went to man utd.
Surely var was supposed to fix such things, so how come last night newcastle had a 100% obvious penalty that was denied them at old trafford?
What the heck was var doing to deny such an obvious penalty that everyone looking at it surely knew it was a penalty on the replay of it.
Var was brought in to stop bias, or mistakes by refs, so what is the point of it if teams like man utd can get away with having a penalty given away at old trafford, when a team they are playing wants points?
